I'm trying to knock out a monk subclass with a more western flavor than is currently available.
Using the settings for arcane tricksters and eldritch knight , i want to give the subclass Cleric spell slots, but i can't for the life of me figure out how to hammer my round peg into the square hole.
I've double checked my settings to make sure I've mimicked the settings for AT & EK, but no spell options show on the character builder & no slots for the character sheet. Am i doing something wrong or is there simply no way to assign slots to classes that don't normally get them?
Tried adding initiate feat to test character to try & thump the system into giving me slots. No go.
When i hit the manage spells button i get this message:
You do not have spellcasting or pact magic spells to manage. The spells that appear for your character were gained through other class features, racial traits, feats, or items.
My aim for testing was a Monk that was a half-caster like EK/AT that could prepare spells like a Cleric.
What I did:
Created subclass for Monk. At bottom chose Spellcasting as Wis, "Can Cast Spells" as Yes, Additional Spell List as Cleric, Spell Prepare Type as Half-Level, and Knows All Spells as Yes.
I created a 3rd level feature entitled Spellcasting
I didn't bother filling description or adding other features since I'm only testing. I saved. Created a new character, made it 3rd level and chose this subclass. Voila, the Spells tab appeared and I could prepare spells.

I've used these settings but it doesn't work for me.
I'm starting to wonder if this is another case of "you can't do that on an android. "
What i ended up with was a character that could know all cantrips (similar to artificer being able to select more options than they should be able to,) but no slot spells. I think i can tag out the spell gain using separate mods under the spellcasting feature, but i still can't get any slots to display, spell management dropdown doesn't show beside the class feature dropdown and I'm still getting the same mssg noted above on the character sheet when I try to manage spells.
Side note- EK/AT are NOT half casters. Ranger and Paladin are half casters. EK/AT are 1/3rd casters.
You'll note under class features spellcasting this character has selected a 9th lvl spell. Which he shouldn't be able to do- believe that is triggered by the knows all spells box under basic class traits.
But if you go to the spells page, that spell isnt listed, no slots & management is disabled.

One more thing you can't do on an android.
Androids dont display the toolbar on forums like they do on description box of the edit tool.
It's starting to look like I'm either going to have to breakdown & get home internet access or carry my laptop to a wifi hotspot.
Everything I've done on DDB to date has been done with an android. The number of things i can't work around is getting unmanageable.
This sounds like you're using your phone for internet. If you have an unlimited plan consider using your phone as a hotspot - pretty much any android phone made in the last 10 years has this feature. I do this too - I have unlimited data on my plan and don't have a landline/direct internet, so I just use my phone as a wifi hotspot and connect my laptop to it.
When viewing the website on a mobile device, use landscape and all browsers have a desktop mode to view the site the same as if accessing from a PC. While this can mean more scrolling since the page won't be visually formatted for mobile devices, you will see everything the same as when using a desktop PC. There's literally nothing you can't do on an Android that you could on a PC - it's just slightly more annoying in some situations. The example I showed above was made using my Android mobile, a Samsung Galaxy A50.

I've been seeing the "turn your phone sideways" reccomend across all the boards for the last six months, but because it didn't work with my tracfone, I didn't even try to use it with my new Samsung. Will see what I can do with these new options available to me.
Well, after weeks of trying to figure out how to get the slots to show up on the character sheet, I give up.
Since I can't post images in forums, (without downloading 3rd party software,) I can't show anyone the specific problems. I've wasted far too much time trying to do what should be a simple upload to account action instead of developing what I'm on DDB to develop, so I'll just take the subclass in a different direction and rewrite the features.
Word of warning to anyone else trying to add spell slots to a class that doesn't already have them: I don't think it can be done with the system as it stands.
There's no official published subclass for the Monk that has spellcasting, so it's likely that there's no backend system set-up for spellcasting on a Monk.

We have advised you in another thread multiple ways in which you can do this. Just turn your browser into Desktop Mode and follow the multiple guides given to you.

So you're just going to ignore earlier in this thread where I did precisely that? Oh kay then. **** me, then, I guess?
I know you're frustrated but it does come across as insulting when you ignore what we say, do and show you.
You do you.
For anyone else reading this thread, please know Draw's wrong and it is very possible to add spell slots for any subclass. If you get stuck, let us know, we'll be happy to help.

You must give the subclass a feature called “spellcasting.”

Started with that. Maybe because i didn't tag it as list 1st? Lemme try that.
Try re-saving the whole subclass

Make sure that it didn’t autocorrect “Spellcasting” to “spell casting” on you.
Also, it only picks up your changes when the main “SAVE CHANGES” button is hit for the entire homebrew.

I use my mobile (iPhone) for everything I do on DDB. I sometimes use a tablet, but it uses the same iOS.
Trust me, just turn your phone sideways and you can do pretty much everything.
