Not sure if this is the correct place for questions, and apologies if this is in the wrong place.
My DM doesn't use DnD Beyond, but a couple of our party is due to being scatterbrains. She handed out a pair of standard +1 shortswords but the offhand sword does a +2 if the mainhand crits. My question is, is there anyway I can incorporate that into the item I'm trying to create, or would it just have to be in the items text and a question of making sure the person wielding it remembers if they happen to crit with it.
It would just have to be in the text and the Player will have to remember if they happen to crit with the first.
Incidentally, there are no designated “offhand” weapons in 5e. Those two blades would be identical in all ways, only the player’s choice of which they use during the Attack action will dictate which of them can be used for the bonus action Two-Weapon Fighting attack. If the Character uses the one in their left hand, then the one in their right hand is considered the “offhand” weapon that turn, and vice versa. So, if the character wielding those blades has the Extra Attack feature, and they use the one in their left hand for their first attack, then the one in their right hand for the second attack, then they could use either one as the “offhand” weapon that turn.
Essentially you only need to make a single blade using the Shortsword, +1 as the template, and then add to the description something along the following lines:
You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon, and if you are dual wielding a matched set of [these blades], they gain the following property:
Whenever you roll a 20 on an attack roll for either blade as part of the Attack action, if you also use your bonus action on the same turn to attack with either blade, that attack gains an additional +1 bonus to the Attack and Damage roll.

I hope that helps.
