(Jingles) The desktop contains the following items, oil lamp, jar of ink, quill pen,a tinderbox, and a letter kit containing a red wax candle, four blank sheets of parchment, and a wooden seal bearing the symbol of a windmill. The desk drawer contains an iron key.
(Evrik) The books on the shelves cover a wide range of topics including history, warfare, and alchemy. There are also several tomes containing poetry and fiction. However a red book with a blank spine catches your eye. When you start to take it off the shelf you feel tension causing you to let go.
Jingles will take everything except the oil lamp. "We have a key," he holds up the iron key, "but, just what it goes to, I ain't gotta clue." He'll stash everything in his various pouches, making sure to put the key in the pouch with his tools. Before putting the seal away, he will rack his brains to see if he might recall any scrap of information about such a windmill being a crest, coat of arms, house symbol, whatever.

Evrik looks over his shoulder, comforted that the others are still nearby. He takes a deep breath to call himself. He grabs the red book and investigates further. (Investigation: 18)

(Evrik) As you attempt to remove the red book from its place on the shelf, you hear a click and that part of the bookcase pivots to reveal a secret room.
This heretofore unknown room contains bookshelves packed with tomes describing fiend-summoning rituals and the necromantic rituals of a cult called the Priests of Osybus.
A heavy wooden chest with clawed iron feet stands against the south wall, its lid half closed. Sticking out of chest is a skeleton in leather armor. A close inspection of the skeleton reveals three small darts embedded in the collar bone. Clutched in the skeleton's left hand is a letter bearing the same Raven symbol as the letter from the inn. Written in a flowing script, the letter reads as follows:
My most pathetic servant,
I am not a messiah sent to you by the Dark Powers of this land. I have not come to lead you on a path to immortality. However many souls you have bled on your hidden altar, however many visitors you have tortured in your dungeon, know that you are not the ones who brought me to this beautiful land. You are but worms writhing in my earth.
You say that you are cursed, your fortunes spent. You abandoned love for madness, took solace in the bosom of another woman, and sired a stillborn son. Cursed by darkness? Of that I have no doubt. Save you from your wretchedness? I think not. I much prefer you as you are.
Your dread lord and master,
Strahd von Zarovich
The chest contains the following items
3 blank books with black leather covers worth 25gp each.
3 spell scrolls (bless, protection from poison, spiritual weapon.)
The Deed to the House
The Deed to a Windmill
A signed Will
The will is signed Gustav and Elizabeth Durst and bequeaths the house and windmill to Rosavalda and Thornboldt Durst in the event of their parent's deaths.
Evrik's jaw drops open as he begins reading the titles of the secret library revealed to them. His thoughts drift back to the priesthood and his teachings, and the secrets he uncovered there. Could these titles explain even more about the forces of nature? He peruses the titles looking for anything that may be helpful. (Investigation: 21)
"These books," Evrik begins, "They discuss darker magics. Things most find offensive." An memory comes to his mind and he shakes it loose. "Whomever lived here had interests at odds with the living. Keep your senses sharp, for all things may not be as they seem."
