"Zodiac is my familiar, we are telepathically connected."
Verakova responds to the comment from Lignum, sends instruction for the raven to return immediately and stops using his senses for surveillance. She bends forward to inspect the items left behind by Percy but finds nothing of interest. Finally, she moves near the eastern gate to search for some kind of mechanism to open it from outside while replying to Percy:
"Perhaps, we can open the gate by ourselves or ask for someone's help."
Wyn comes back and announces to the group "No one over in Honeywallow. Seems like this whole place is completely abandoned. I imagine everywhere will be the same, but suppose it does not hurt to check. Perhaps I can speak with the crows to speed this process along, but then again if there are foes inside it might makes sense for me to conserve my magic. What say you all?"

Percy saw Verakova walking towards the east tower of the gate and followed, first grabbing two pitons and the hammer with one hand, and pulling along one end of the rope as he walked with the other, it’s other end dragging on the ground behind them like children dragging a red wagon along while walking home.
“Well I guess it doesn’t hurt to ask,” Percy remarks while thinking of the mannequins. “Let’s try it your way first, but up and over is always a plan, just say ‘when’.” still holding onto his climbing tools; Percy also inspects the gate and tower and wall carefully for clues.
Perception for ways or mechanisms to open the gate 13
The walls, built smooth to hinder an enemy from trying to climb over, were simply too much for Lignum. He couldn't quite get the grip he needed to get up and over the wall. After sliding back down and examining the structure while looking only marginally pathetic, he realizes that the iron wrought frame of the south gate leads conveniently straight up to the murderhole that the raven had gone in. The hole was about the right size for a Gnome to squeeze into.
Unfortunately for Verakova, there is no gate on the eastern wall, only the battlements and support for the walls surrounding the city. Furthermore, there isn't a lever or any external apparatus for opening the gates from outside the wall; everything seems to be located behind the sealed gates of the city.
There are no clues on the outside of the walls that lead them any closer to an answer than they already were. It looks like the only answer seems to be climbing over of some sort and searching inside the walls.

Lignum, with excitement, takes note of Verakova and her connection with Zodiac. After spending a minute on this, he turns to Wyn and says
I think you should conserve your magic, I have a feeling that we are gonna need it. Besides, Verakova has her raven Zodia that we can use for scouting.
He then turns to the wall, disappointed that he couldn’t get over the wall. After realising that he might fit in the murder hole above he says to the group
I think I can fit in that hole above the gate. Maybe there is a way to open the gate inside. I will need help getting there though. Or we could get someone better at climbing to go up the wall and leave a rope down for us.
Lignum will then see what the others want to do. In the meantime he will start investigating the windmill and the farm nearby the camp to see if anyone is still there.
Investigation on the farm to see if anything has happened: 12

Percy wonders where everyone is around here. Is it an abandoned city? Is it their future keep? There was a noise when he bulls-eyed the mannequin, so certainly something is here…
“The slow and steady way: let’s call it be a team build exercise.” Percy grabs the first Piton and hammers it into the wall around 6ft up from the ground. When the first strike of the hammer’s noise clangs across the fields, he turns his Tabaxi ears to listen for reactive noises: birds taking flight or larger creatures rusting awake.
Percy perched himself on the first piton and hammers a second 1 6 more feet up the wall. “I reckon one of us can launch a gnome to the top of the wall from here, if not then by a 3rd or 4th Piton certainly.”
He looks towards Lignum with a friendly smirk, assuming he’d heard a lifetime of short jokes, but perhaps never one about flying. Percy knew he could get to the top of the wall anytime he wanted, but if they were gonna survive whatever madness was ahead, they would need to develop a familiarity with each other edging on hunting party cohesion. he also knew nothing was as it seamed, and he was hoping each of them would surprise him, ever arriving with a solution to new problems as they arose.
[athletics 12] to jump to the 2nd piton w/out rope
“Verakova, does your raven do requests? How about a look-see behind the gate?” Percy tried to lift one of his hind legs and lick it instinctually but was caught by his armor. He didn’t hate wearing it, but he didn’t love it either.
Given his limited climbing skills, Wellis waits for the others to set up the pitons and rope. He takes the time to hustle back to the camp and grab his lute, the one entrusted to him by his mentor. He then makes his way back to where Percy is setting up the pitons.
"What on earth is going on" Wellis thinks to himself as he returns to the wall. More lyrics float in his head -
"The guards are fake, the walls are high, but the raven's wing, provides an eye, up and over the walls we go, what lies inside I loath to know..." he gulps
When one of her teammates mentions the effectiveness of using the raven as a scout, Verakova will stare at the vultures circling above the city gate. It's a life-threatening choice, those birds of prey will definitely attack my Zodiac.
"Percy, why don't you ask him about it? Let's see if he agrees to do so."
The fortune-teller will move towards Wellis to enjoy the creative lyrics and music. Meanwhile, Zodiac flies towards the second piton and sits on it, he's carefully watching the movement of the large non-avian creature.
Watching Percy scale the wall, Wyn thinks back to all of the climbing he did in the Star Mounts. While the idea of seeing the Tabaxi launch the tiny gnome over the wall brings a rye smile to Wyn's olive skinned face, he realizes Lignum might not be thrilled by the idea.
"Percy, if you set a few more pitons I should be able to spring myself over the top", Wyn says, hoping Lignum will offer his services instead. He really would like to see that spectacle.

Percy found himself humming along to Wellis’ tune, remembering the taste of ale, and salivating a little too much for the matters at hand. If only they could somehow end this day in a tavern jovially getting plastered, knowing a warm soft bed awaited each of them.
“H e l l o Z o d i a c, N i c e T o M e e t Y o u. I A m P e r c y L o n g t a i l,” Percy greeted Zodiac in that slow and obtuse way one speaks to a foreigner who might not understand the language.
having established that Zodiac understood him, he continued: “If you fear for your life I will make a vow to obliterate any fowl who may so much as touch a feather on your bonnet this day. Whatever is within my abilities to perform such duty, thusly shall I endeavor to carry out the necessary actions to honor thy potential sacrifice of scouting the other side of this oaf of a gate,” ending with an upper body bowing motion while still on the wall that perhaps only a nimble feline could manage.
before he could get an answer Wyn arrived and volunteered to be the grease monkey of the operation. Percy didn’t much mind either way, (except the sadness it would be to miss this chance of witnessing a gnome fly), but his mind wandered to another observation declaring, “Youknow Wyn, it’s all quite strange. We’re here just hanging away, hammering pitons, having a laugh, literally climbing up to break into a Walled City, and nobody is trying to stop us… in broad daylight! In those epic tales, when one group is trying to climb the wall, especially in daylight, there is always another group trying to shoot arrows at them or throw molten metal on their head, or something. Just a thought; an observation; how strange andmysterious.”
He perks up his ears once again to actively listen for any noise within the city: [perception 21]
Lignum's investigation on the nearby farm reveals nothing; there are footprints leading toward the South Gate, but there are no people, no livestock, only a rich number of cabbages growing in the fields nearby.
Percy climbs the pitons that are anchored in the wall with no issues, easily getting to the second position without problem. The raven, Zodiac, lands near Percy, and the two have a (seemingly) meaningful conversation where the bird, hearing the vow or protection against other fowl, tilts its head and looks up at the circling crows and vultures above.
Zodiac does not appear to be concerned about the birds overhead.
There are sounds inside the city, but they're not loud. It's the occasional crash of something metallic, or sometimes breaking pottery, or sometimes other noises. Something...
It's voices, Percy realizes, though he can't tell who they are or what they're saying. They're distant.
Oh a short joke, never heard that one before. But sure, if you can get me up there I’ll see what’s inside.
Lignum gets himself ready. He is concerned that he might be thrown flat face on a wall, but has faith in his new friends. He is eager to get inside the city to see what is going on, after all this is one big mystery that must be solved. Lignum will do some stretches and put all lose possession in his bag. Then, not to dissimilar to a child, will hold out his arms for someone to grab him.
Dexterity saving throw for catching the edges of the murderhole: 12
Percy heard a crowd within the city walls, as well processed the vultures circling above. His skin shuttered under his smooth almost night blue fur. Whatever was happening, there was death involved. Vultures didn’t hang around for much else.
“Sorry Lignum but the whole gnome peg in a gnome hole game will have to wait, unless someone else wants a throw at it. I hear voices in this city, and we better get there before the vultures do.”
Keeping an eye on Zodiac as he worked, Percy placed his glaive on his back and climbed naturally to a few feet below the top of the wall, and there near the apex finished striking in 2 more pitons to secure the rope. He then turned to peak over the edge of the wall towards the inner city. His angle couldn’t yet see directly down the wall to below (he awaited zodiac’s recon before extending his body father into view), but across the roofs and perhaps down the thoroughfares.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Wyn joins Percy just below the top of the wall and whispers to him:
"Percy, if there is nothing menacing on the other side of the wall let us have a bit of fun. Perhaps we throw one of the dummies back over the wall in my clothing to give them a good fright!"
Wyn then calls down to the rest of his group to discuss the plan. "All, should we be unable to clearly convey that which we see and that which is happening inside the wall, listen for my bird calls. The eagle's shriek shall mean we are entering a fight. An owl's hoot shall mean everything is fine and that we are coming to open the gate. The chicken's cluck shall mean for you to run away as fast as you possibly can, for there will be no saving us."
Wyn then turns back to the wall and gets into the same position as Percy, hoping to notice where the voices that Percy heard were coming from.
Lignum caught the edge at the top of the wall easily enough with the help of Percy's toss and the pitons that had been placed. Still, Zodiac beat him there...being a bird and all...
The Raven, and soon enough Lignum, could see that the top of the city, save for some of the battlements and the tops of the Keep in the center of the city were all shrouded in spiderwebs, below which thick darkness bathed the buildings within the walls. A gentle breeze billowed the sheets of webbing up and down, showing that not only was the majority of the city was covered and very little sunlight was filtering through.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lignum has a very concerned look on his face, he didn’t expect the city to be in such a state. He thinks back to the warning that Verakova gave him with the illusion spider. How did she know? She must really be able to see the future. The situation becomes more dangerous by the second. After spending a moment looking at this webbing he will look behind him and say to the rest of the group below with a little fear in his voice
This is bad, this is bad. Oh this isn’t good at all. Verakova was right. The city is COVERED in spider webs. I’ll try and lower a rope down for you’ll to climb up. We are gonna need all hands on deck for this one.
Lignum will then lower a rope and tie one end on a battlement or edging of the wall. With the rope and pitons he believes that everyone should be able to climb up. Lignum hopes that no one finds out that he is TERRIFIED of spiders, especially ones that can cover the city in webbing.
“Everyone be on alert and draw your long range weapons… and… and is anyone specifically scared of spiders? If so Stand behind me for cover!” Percy hoped his confidence would embolden and alert the troop, although he himself was a bit worried as well.
The idea of getting surrounded on all sides by an entire colony of spiders ran across his mind, as he took out his own javelins in his throwing hand and moved his glaive to his off hand, he primed himself to take out anything that threatened him directly.
standing up now on the wall as his comrades joined him, he pleaded to those who hadn’t gotten up the rope yet, “bring torches and flint! We might be needing some fire today…”
The party made it to the top of the wall with the help of the pitons and rope without any issue. Standing together, they can see the spiderwebs billowing.
Everyone can hear the voices below now, and they are decidedly not human, elf, dwarf...it's actually hard to tell what they are, what language they are, or what they are saying. They're distant, off toward the north eastern side of the city, and are muffled by the shroud of spiderwebs covering everything. A look through the gaps in the webs show that it's dark below, inside Westmarch.
