The crossbow bolt sinks into the body of the creature and flies out the other side, tearing a hole that melds slowly back together. The creature lashes out toward Fargas, the closest source of its pain.
It's pseudopod flops harmlessly in the water by his feet as Fargas dodges (narratively, not technically). These blows seem to have significantly damaged the creature as it struggles to hold its form together. Or maybe that's just the way it jiggles and moves.
Tanis is up (but I believe he stayed out of the light down the passage away from this room), followed by Kisiki and Vrah.
Hearing the commotion, Tanis stalks towards it just as far as he needs to to see the source, trying to stay in the darkness at least 25' from the light unless he can't see anything from there. (Due to Dread Ambusher, his move speed on the first round of combat is 45' instead of the usual 35'.)
With a whisper, he casts Hunter's Mark on the creature. Using his longbow, he shoots twice at the attacking creature. (Additional attack with extra 1d8 damage on first round of combat due to Dread Ambusher).
(Also, if Tanis is in darkness, he is invisible to darkvision due too Umbral Sight, so I have him attacking with advantage, which means best of 3 dice due to Elven Accuracy feat. But if the creature has blindsight or some other sense and is in range to perceive Tanis, then just use only the first of the 3 d20s).

From the darkness, arrows fire through the opening in the wall. The arrows both strike true, slicing through the ooze. It slowly loses its form and dissolves into the water covering the floor of the room. That water by the way has risen a few inches and is definitely getting deeper. (everyone is out of initiative)
Fargas whines "Man... this sword is all corroded now. I really liked this one."
Tanis steps into the light, suddenly becoming visible again, looking a little sheepish. (Still concentrating on Hunter's Mark.)
"I think we need to move carefully but keep moving. The water is rising. We may be swimming soon. And if there are other such oozes, if we can kill them at range, all the better, since they seem to wreck whatever items they touch."
Flesh for the Faceless Lord a voice gibbers inside his head.
Vrah screams as he is hit and then twirls around with Battleaxe in hand, only to find the creature dissolving at his feet. He gruffs, "Next time save me some." Then follows the rest of the group, taking up his normal middle position.
Tanis retreats back into the darkness, ready to follow. "I think the only clear way is north from this room since the other cavern looked to be a dead end?"
As Vethna moves toward the exit to the north, she sees the skeletal remains of a drow, along with a dark metal mace and a scattering of coins. However, you quickly notice that these items appear to hover in the hallway above the stone floor.
Kisiki watches the strange floating objects, unsure what magic could cause this. He nods as his brave protégé reaches out to touch them - hands-on experience is usually the best teacher.
Shoowaa, as you reach out toward one of the floating coins, there is a way the light shimmers off something and you realize "wait, these things aren't floating in the air. They are stuck in something. You look toward the sidewalls and see the outline of a nearly invisible translucent cube. You draw your hand back at the last second before you stuck it into this mass.
In your mind, you and the others hear an alien voice say "Friend? New friends?"
