A clearly shaken Brix takes a few breaths then says "Th, thank you! Heh, I suppose I probably should have taken the eye after all." He manages a weak grin and an even weaker chuckle. He looks back at the hole." Thank you everyone. That could have been bad." Brix eyes widen suddenly and he looks about some what frantically. "Hey I don't hear the digging sounds we may have company on the way." he whispers.
Soren nods and peers ahead into the darkness using his 60' darkvision, as does his owl Nettle from his shoulder. He says in a low voice:
"Yes, the others here are surely warned now. Nothing we can do about that. Should we move forward carefully right away to minimize their chance to set up a proper ambush?"
SorenPerception with Guidance, looking into the darkness ahead and listening: 8 + 3
Nettle (the owl familiar) Perception at advantage due to Keen Hearing and Sight feature: 11
"Well there goes my thoughts, I still think we should try and talk with the next group we come across." Thom does still have his sword drawn, and gripped tight, along with his shield.
Soren pats Nettle's feathers lightly. Still in a low voice, he confirms:
"They know we are coming and are whispering and scurrying around. Should we move forward carefully nonetheless? Unless Brix or Ursa, one of you has some kind of illusion or other diversion you can create. Either way, let's move quickly - something about this place feels... unnatural."
To Thom (but audible to the others), he whispers:
"I do know draconic and that may help in talking to the kobolds. Though unfortunately, we don't have anyone very persuasive in our party. Since we know we cannot surprise them, should we move forward a bit and I can try to talk to them? What can I say, now that we have killed their comrades?"
Now aware of hidden dangers you proceed cautiously.
The tunnel widens into a large, irregularly shaped chamber. Crude pots of crimson soil line the eastern wall. A smudge painting depicting a massive, winged creature dominates the room. A number of nest-like beds lay scattered on the earthen floor. The feeling of dozens of malicious eyes makes you grip your weapon tight.
Soren keeps a blank face, but sighs inwardly. There is no way these hostile kobolds will be gently persuaded and they certainly aren't surprised. Perhaps intimidated? And if not, it will have to be a fight. Such is the way of nature in the wild. Red in tooth and claw unless we can make them back down.
As a bonus action, he makes a brief gruffling, growling sound as he imagines Ursa might and a spectral Bear spirit appears beside him as his Circle of Shepherds Spirit Totem animal (30' radius area of effect on chosen allies):
All party members (including Soren and Nettle) gain 7 temporary HP and have advantage on Strength checks and saving throws for the next minute.
He calls out, speaking in draconic, voice still gruff from having invoked his spirit totem animal, taking a gamble and using his Guidance from nature to assist his Deception:
[IN DRACONIC] "Little dragonkin. If you fight us, you will die, as the four in front did without our taking a scratch. But hear me now. We come as envoys to the great black dragon Voaraghamanthar who has arrived at Agav's bog just today. He commands all dragon allies to hasten there to pay him service. STOP YOUR PETTY SCRABBLING IN THE DIRT IMMEDIATELY AND OBEY OR YOU WILL ALL BE TURNED TO LITTLE PUDDLES OF ACID BY HIS WONDROUS BREATH, IF WE DON'T SLAUGHTER YOU FIRST. It is time to serve a live dragon, not die amongst the bones of a dead one. GO NOW!"
((Let me know if Soren can do a Deception check and/or if you would give me advantage or disadvantage.))
Soren says quietly to his friends in Common: "I've asked them not so nicely to go serve a live dragon. But be ready to fight."
Thredash centres himself, not looking at any of the kobolds in particular, instead taking in the entire scene all at once, calmy waiting for what ever happens. Even Gruumsh was silent this time...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Garmuk sees all the fun about to be had and starts to get pumped. His battle lust starts to rise. He grips his axe getting ready to charge till he remembers talking first.
Without turning, Soren sighs and whispers apologetically to Thom: "I tried."
To Garmuk and everyone else: "Be ready."
He then attempts to get the element of surprise by keeping the kobold's attention, gesturing firmly and starting to say in Draconic: "Ah yes, but Voaraghamanthar is alive. Almananadarix is dead and..."
But the gesture and words lead straight into a verbal and somatic casting of the Entangle spell on as many of the kobolds as he can target. 90' range, 20' square, DC14 STR save or be restrained on failure (all their attacks at disadvantage, all attacks on them at advantage, 0' movement, have to use action to make a DC14 STR check to free themselves). Regardless of save, the area is difficult terrain - move speed halved.
(If he doesn't get surprise, then I guess we're rolling initiative first.)
(To the party: don't forget your 7 temp HP and your advantage on STR saves and checks due to the Bear totem spirit).
Soren attempts to take cover behind a rock if available once he is done with all the above.
Is Ursa in a position to grab him?
if so Dex check: 14

Already did - that was the + 1. I rolled 1d20+1 to get 7 for his normal roll. And 1 on the 1d4 for Guidance. So 7+1 = 8.
Any chance Soren gets advantage on Deception for that speech?
