Crannoc - (Jasper, please describe what Crannoc could deduce about your momentary headache with a. 23 on a medicine check)
Everyone - You head through town and to Birgon’s Apothecary. You pass the procession, which is currently touring the outer residences of Aoswell. At Birgon’s, you see her shop is empty of everyone except her. She’s currently tending to the plants through the shop.
(OOC: Hmmm, happy to oblige, although Jasper would surely refuse the attention, but this would be equivalent to an ice cream headache. Perhaps the most notable thing would be simply the fact that Jasper has no head injuries or anything else of the sort to cause any problems.)
Before reaching the apothecary Jasper would privately ask Maggwyn if she intends to keep the found gem or sell it to Birgon. Otherwise he intends to give her all relevant paperwork, the arcane note, and probably even sell the mace to her as well.
Miesha would attempt to give Jasper space as he conducts her business while still keeping a suspicious eye on him… She wouldn’t interfere unless she notices him handing over the mace. (Perception 5)
If she does notice she will step forward. “Excuse me!” She’ll say loudly to get his attention before moving next to him and talking more quietly to him. “The metal off the mace seems odd to me. And the fact that I specifically recall it from years ago… Might we not at least consider our options first? It couldn’t hurt to make sure there’s not more to it than meets the eye…”
If she does not notice then she does not notice. Last she knew Jasper was looking to hide it so she had no thought that he’d be getting rid of it so soon…
(OOC: I was thinking of hiding it originally until I reread the Birgon posts where she said she'd buy anything else interesting from them. I realized Jasper would want to immediately sell anything he himself can't use, as he usually works alone and only thinks of the job and himself. I think it's more interesting to keep it with the group though, so I'd prefer not to roll against you or anything and just say that Miesha sees Jasper try to hand it over wrapped in cloth but it's clearly the mace. :) You rolled well anyhow so that fits.)
Birgon, impressed with the speed with which you obtained so much information, looks over everything that you present to her and evaluates its worth.
The items that you are presenting to her (correct me if this list is wrong): All of the papers from Sir Brodstin's desk and the arcane communication paper. (Now not the mace, the amulet from the lower floor, the conjuration book, all of the journals from an unknown general, the journal from the desk)
In terms of the items we're presenting to Birgon, neither Crannoc or I can remember for sure but those sound right.))
I think Crannoc would add his general sense that Sir Brodstin clearly was trying to protect or hide some of these things, even from his own guard - what with the arcane locks and animated armor. He would describe the conversation he overheard from the guards (one of them now dead, apparently) wondering what in the world Sir Brodstin is keeping in there that he is so secretive about it.
(All this assuming Crannoc is part of the conversation. If Jasper or Maggwyn had told him to beat it, he probably would since it's not really his purview.)
(Sorry, had COVID and pretty much wiped my energy, luckily back to normal)
With the deals with Birgon being new to Maggwyn, she wanted to understand what type of deals this woman would make, so she does present the amulet from the lower floor. She is also curious as to what it is, hoping Birgon might have an idea. She looks on, impressed, with all that Jasper and Crannoc were able to obtain from the house. Apparently she took the wrong floor!
At the moment, Maggwyn would not tell anyone to beat it as they were all part of the job, and she is also curious as to how the others handle the situation.
((Well Birgon would be presented the mace but then Miesha would interrupt... Minor detail but could be important if shopkeep wants the mace in particular, if they have a reaction to seeing it...))
Birgon takes a look at everything you found at the house. She takes a moment with various books and such that she retrieves from the back of her shop. After the better part of an hour of intense appraisal she speaks again. Despite no longer being offered the mace she does offer a comment on it. "Well, that mace and amulet aren't really what we're looking for here, but they are valuable. Each one is very magical, I couldn't tell you exactly what they do but those are keepers for sure. As for the rest, I'll take it all. I can write up some of the information if you really want it, but either way the Saints will pay 1,000 gold for these. What do ya say?"
The often animated and quirky Jasper takes business with Birgon seriously and replies with the bow of a head and the confirmation that "the Saints are most generous with their blessings." He 'summons' Maggywn by holding out a hand and saying "apprentice" while offering a 200g share from Birgon's payment. He then remembers the others are there and turns a back to them briefly. He whispers to Maggwyn "so, ah, do we pay them as brothers and sisters?" "Uuuuggghh" he says as he pouts a little and drops his shoulders. "Fine, fine, a job well done." The cat man ensures all receive equal payment. He whispers to Maggwyn "teamwork doesn't pay, eh?"
Getting a bit of his normal vigor back Jasper returns to Birgon and inquires "so, selling any candles a tabaxi in the trade might desire?"
Crannoc stares at the offered payment in confusion for a moment, sycamore seedling wobbling on his shoulder, then circling once around him the opposite direction than normal.
He attempts to recover quickly and act like he is completely hip to the situation. “Ah… ah yes. The traditional, um, sharing of the hunt. Thank you for your generosity with the kill, cat-man, I honor your pack, your young and your territory…”
Stupid, stupid,, stupid, he chastises himself. Cats do not hunt in packs. Unless they are lionesses. What a wonder it would be to see that! But in any case, this cat-man is not a lioness. I hope he will not take it as a slight. Do better Crannoc!
Maggwyn looks bemused as Jasper acquiesces to giving out equal shares to everyone. Seeing as she typically worked alone, The Saints were not an organization she was familiar with. She leans over to Jasper and whispers, "Have you heard of The Saints before?"
Once business was completed, Maggwyn reengages Birgon and asks, "Did you find what you were looking for? Is this man, this Sir Brodstin, an issue here in town? Not who he appears to be?"
Miesha takes the gold with a small tilt of her head and a shrug. She really hadn’t considered recompense but the fair divvying of profit was a signal that perhaps the others were considering this group… a group. Interesting.
If she has a moment to speak softly to Jasper away from the proprietor she does advise “I’m not totally against selling the mace. Just feel we need to know all about it before making the decision. We still have the flail from the head Gnoll as well… We should identify their values and worthiness before deciding what to do with them is all.”
Otherwise, with her gold properly tied into a couple pouches and secured, Miesha lazily browses until the others are ready to depart.
Privately Jasper would shrug and concede Miesha's point. "Aye bronze one, I keep what I like and is not required for the job and turn over the rest. Can't blame you either way. Well done on the job, there may be hope for you yet!"
Jasper - "I might have a few things, let me check my ledger." She delves under the desk for a well-used book. She opens it and flips through, then flips to the back. You can't read it upside-down, but you can tell it is written in Thieves' Cant. "Well there's that dagger that you took notice of earlier, but I also have some special offers reserved for Saints. I have a four pack of experimental poisons. They're not tested very well so their effects may vary but I'll give you all four for 150 gold. I also have a suit of armor that's been collecting dust in the back, but could be useful for folks like you. Since you're a brother, you and your crew can get some discounts on other things in the shop. So, what suits your fancy?"
Maggwyn - "This is more than enough, the client was looking for something incriminating. Being a South Vexcall spy is pretty serious up in these parts. If all of these journals are his then he has also been quite influential in the War, in fact it seems like he was a key player in the atrocities committed on the Central to South border."
Miesha - All of the items that were in here previously are still. (see page 17: posts 322, 328, 337 for most of that information) She has also assembled a shelf that has items that were just made available for sale. You see on it is a small sigh that reads: "Mobile Terrarium - 500 gp. Inquire at desk."
