With the dwarf safe, Lothar joined the others and sat down. He was interested in the dwarf's tale and what lay further in. Lothar asked about the mine, its history, and what they had hoped to find inside.
I've leveled up Lothar's sheet and took a long rest.
As you rest Nundro tells you of the history of Wave Echo Cave....
(More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver’s Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin (pronounced fan-duh-lin) prospered as well. But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path.
A powerful force of orcs reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost.
For centuries, rumors of buried riches have attracted treasure seekers and opportunists to the area around Phandalin, but no one has ever succeeded in locating the lost mine. In recent years, people have resettled the area. Phandalin is now a rough-and-tumble frontier town. More important, the Rockseeker brothers — a trio of dwarves — have discovered the entrance to Wave Echo Cave, and they intend to reopen the mines.)
Nundro also takes the opportunity to arm himself with a Morningstar and shield from one of the bugbears, he also manages to alter the beast's hide armor to fit him well enough. "Alright, I'm ready when you lads are."
Vandar nods his agreement to helping clear out the mine, then listens to Nundros story about the cave's history. Then he drops onto the bed to get some sleep (I'm assuming there's a bed if it used to be someone's quarters).
"Even less than you I'm afraid. Tharden and I were camping out at the entrance, waiting for Gundren to bring the supplies when that Drow and his crew showed up. They killed me brother right in front of me own eyes, then they knocked me out and I woke up in here. The drow was interrogating me trying to find out any secrets I might know. Daft bastard, how am I supposed to know where the forge is? Ain't no one been in here in 500 years, but he insisted that I must know something, thats the only reason I'm still alive. Tharden would have been more help to him, he was the history buff. Me, I'm just a humble smith."
"I see well then we just proceed with all due caution as I would not like to run I to anymore surprises." Tibern says as he readies to continue further in.
A wide rift fills the eastern half of this cavern. A stream pours out of the west wall, then tumbles down into the rift and flows out again to the north. Several ropes are secured to iron stakes along on the western edge of the rift, leading down to the chasm floor.
"Looks like the drow had his minions doing some amateur excavation down there." Nundro says indicating some tools and freshly disturbed rubble at the bottom of the pit. "I wonder what they expected to find down there."
Lothar led the way into the room with the giant rift. Using the ropes, he descended, but then moved onto the eastern portion to see if there was a way up. Lothar cared little about rocks and minerals. He wanted to help clear this place of the bugbears and other denizens of the Wave Echo Cave.
Lothar finds no easy way of scaling the eastern side of the rift, but it is possible.
Climbing up the eastern side of the rift will require a DC 10 strength or athletics check. If you fail by 5 or more you fall and take 1d6 falling damage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The giant of the man moves to the passage on the far northern portion of the rift. He looked up the wall and decided this was as good a place as any. He hoisted his massive frame up the wall. Though, it proved to be difficult as he slid back down.
You are not pressed for time at the moment and can try to climb as many times as you want, once one person is up it will be possible to anchor a rope for the others.

There is indeed a bed. However the sheets have not been changed in 500 years.
Silas will spend this time going over spells that might be useful going forward.
Your rest goes by uninterrupted. You should all be lvl 4 and now have a dwarf tagging along to help. What would you like to do?
Tibern will leave the room and wait for the others. "How well do you know the caves?" He asks Nundro.

"Well Lads, which way?" Says Nundro.
"Let us continue on past the room you were in." Tibern suggest to him as he looks to see if the rest of the group is fine with this direction.
Silas nods in agreement. "Let's press on"

Silas will investigate where they were digging. 8
Tibern will slot enter the room, taking things slow as they step inside.
Silas climbs down one of the ropes as Tibern cautiously enters the area keeping an eye open for threats.
Silas looks around near the spot where the black Spider's minions had been moving around the rubble, he finds only stones.
