"Spernik and Tibeem fled the library two days ago." The sage replies to Utar's question regarding a headstart. "Spernik could have reached the mountains by now." Concerning the Tormite's next point, the Sage says: "Phlan's history is closely woven with that of the many dragons who have claimed the Moonsea Region in the past and present. The city has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. There is no shortage of possible leads this cult could be pursuing, but I'll see if our search can spot anything else regarding the current lead we have or something related to the graveyard, as you requested."
Obby's mention of a river causes the whole group to look at the map again. Noticing that the river must flow from the mountains through Plhan and into the Moonsea puts some doubt on the possible plan to hire a water vessel. Rowing upstream over a prolonged period of time could be quite the toil. Graxx prefers the suggestion of making use of horses, and Glory has already been enlisted for the task in the barbarian's mind.
After the study of the tomes is completed, and seeing that the investigation in the library is coming to an end, the Lord Sage eventually leads CRAP back to the entrance after supplying the party with all the paper, parchment, charcoal, ink, and quills they may need. "I can already see that House Brokengulf selected capable investigators for this task. Thank you for looking into this and please recall our arrangement: Bring Spernik back alive so we can be sure to retrieve all tomes he might have stolen. Collect any researcher-worthy artifacts you come across during your investigation. If nothing else, there is extra gold in it for you should you accomplish these tasks as requested."
Once farewells are concluded, the party heads back to the Leadstopper Residence and resumes their night as previously planned before the pair of interrupting door knocks they received. Sagin has already fallen asleep by the time you return home.
In the morning, Graxx wakes up a bit earlier than everybody else so he can restock Glory's feed supply and spend some time caring for her. Once the rest of the party catches up to the tribesman, they then must decide where to go next. Utar had suggested a stop by Cockburn's Grocery. Graxx had at one point wondered if the folks at The Laughing Goblin could recall anything. They may need to secure a mode of transportation and cold weather supplies as well.
"You had asked before what to expect where we were going. I have never been there myself but we are going to experience very cold weather where we're heading. I'd say much of the water if falling in would mean possible death if you're not able to get warm quickly. We'll want to avoid the water." says Graxx.
Graxx looks in the direction where Glory would be outside.
"I think being mounted would help us. The faster we are able to travel and get this over with the better we will be." says Graxx.
Graxx looks down at his chest.
"If we get mounts we're going to need some warmer clothes for us and some blankets for the mounts. It'd probably be best to secure mounts first before buying blankets so we know what's going to fit and if any are even available." says Graxx.
"Shall we go by Ernst's Livery to see what would be available to you all? I'm all set with Glory. We could then go by Raldolph Tzimtin the leatherworker to see if they have any hides we could use for warmth." says Graxx.
"We should also consider mountain-climbing supplies." Neya adds. "Currently, we don't have an exact area where the stones and Spernik are. At best, they would be on the foothills as the books indicate. But, at worst, they might be somewhere on the mountains."
Not wanting to put the cleric out in spite of the offering to rest elsewhere in the house, Obsben pointedly -- or rather, hardly gave the others a chance to linger on the concern before settling into whatever amounted to a common room for the leadstopper home. All she required by all accounts was a nice corner, her bed roll, and her hat positioned just rightly enough to cover most of her face.
By the next morning, Obsben proves to not be much of an early riser without direct outside influence. For even a noisy din of breakfast possibly getting put together by Sagin earns not a complaint from the lightly snoring halfling. One way or another however, she awoke in due time and largely spent that morning zombie-ing her way through the motions of any morning activity.
"Considering their goal was to lure dragons into their binding rituals, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise to find ourselves deeper in the mountains by the end." Obsben commits in-between yawns before flipping another page of some book in hand. "But sure. The livery, leatherworks, 'n all that sounds lovely~ And it'll give plenty of time to run this story by you guys along the way. I'm thinking of calling it 'Spernik the Cowardly Spider'."

Nodding along with points being made, Utar makes one final check of his pack before standing.
"Ok, that's a plan. Best let Sagin know we'll be out of town before we go, but hopefully we can start chasing Spernik down. We already know his route, so hopefully we can pick up a trail still."
Graxx arrives back at the residence to the sounds of breakfast being prepared and Obby still rolling in her corner. Sagin is mixing flour and water to prepare the most basic sort of dough you can whip together, but the little kobold is dedicated to his craft and will surely be learning more with time. When Utar tells him that the group is preparing for another out-of-town trip, he nods and affirms: "Sagin will use the extra time to pick up home-tending tips from Mar."
Glory is well fed and supplied and as ready to go forth as her master. As Obby gets ready and joins the group, a plan emerges. CRAP is to make a few shopping stops, including for climbing gear as recommended by Neya.
Graxx has visited Ernst's Livery a few times, so the group has no trouble finding their way there. Some of the attendants even recognize the bare-chested man and give him a nod in greeting. After some back and forth, CRAP is offered a few options, including some that might be more suitable for the smaller folk:
Rental fee is the same as purchasing the animal, but with a portion of the fee being returned to the renter once the animal is brought back to the livery. Should the animal not be brought back within two tendays, the whole fee is forfeited.
These lists offer the standard selection. Some more options are kept in the back, but those are usually reserved to VIP/noble clients. If you want to try to gain access to them, it will require a CHA-check.
(OOC: Regarding quarters for Obby, I'll remind everyone that Doozey and Villonah's rooms are currently vacant.)

"Hnn~ Very nice. Very, very nice~"Obsben commented absently, and even coo'd at some of the beast if presented a chance to see them. Yet as infatuated as she seemed with the Mastiff's in particular, she'd turn to the attendant(s) at hand speak of adjacent interests.
"But you wouldn't happen to have more, mnn... I dunno. A couple of truly exotic or exceptional mounts would you? Where we're planning to go will be quite dangerous I believe. So having something a bit more... robust would be rather nice if you maybe have them. Even if the price is a bit, uhm... up there." Obsben somehow smoothly slips from her sleeves the pouch of platinum and jingles in the air while moving her eyebrows. She than seems to slip it away and feigns dejection. "Of course if you don't, then I understand... understand that things aren't going so well for Ernst's Livery. Oh what Master Brokengulf's will think upon hearing of this too. But, if you at least have some protective barding to purchase for your beasts then I suppose that's fine."
Deception: 17. (The lie being her legit having such an 'in with a noble family' as to take away a potential noble customer. Or at least, lying that she would do that. Though if its a raw Charisma Check then subtract 8 from the above roll)
(OOC: May potentially Chronal Shift if the above roll would not be a success. If needed, feel free to do the re-roll on my behalf Lerus)
Utar looks over a wagon and a couple of draft horses. He's a little more familiar with them, plus they might need a little extra space to bring Spernik back to the library. That said, a wagon might not cope with a narrow path and might leave him hoofing it after the rest of CRAP.
"I guess I'll take a riding horse? Unless the group want to have a wagon, in which case, I'm happy to follow on... Unless the foothills around the Quivering Forest would be too challenging? Are blankets for the animals extra?"
Graxx, Utar, and Neya are happy to keep negotiations brief. The latter two agree on paying the fee for a riding horse each and are then offered a few additional pieces of gear, should they not be able to provide their own. Obby jumps in with a request for armor and is informed that they have some standard pieces available but that anything containing metal chains or plates would require custom work. Here is the selection:
Obby pushes her luck a bit further, using whatever knowledge about local nobles she has picked up from her short stay in Phlan so far. The attendants look at each other for a split second and one of them raises his hands in an "I don't know" sort of gesture. The other one clicks their tongue and replies: "Come, I'll take you to Tross."
The mustachioed, older half-orc dresses in the leathers of a common stable-hand, but clearly commands the respect of the other attendants. "I understand you come on behalf of House Brokengulf?" The written summons is enough proof for the stable master, who shows the group to a few VIP offerings:
Camel (only one is available; the noble who paid for its import never came to collect; exotic saddle required):50gp
CRAP notices a closed-up area within which another beast of some sort resides. You can't see what it is but, noticing your collective gaze shift, Tross explains that the wild animal inside is not ready for proper riding yet. He leaves it at that. (Any follow-up up check to extract more information here will have a very high DC, but you are welcome to try.)

(OOC: Obsben is too curious for her own good)
"It's a Giant Goat, innit? A Drake? C'mon~ You can tell us. Not to doubt you're expertise, Mr. Tross. But, if its something as exotic as that Camel, could be that folks like myself who've been, uhm... around the block and thensome as it were, might know a thing or two to ease your future training. So a bit of, uh tit for tat, eh?"Obsben said suggestively. But while tempted and very likely to rewind the moment to try and tease out more from Tross, her curiosity would only made her so insistent before accepting inevitably falling back on more certain success. Such as buying a mastiff and some hide barding and that really fancy(military) saddle for good measure! Plus a blanket two after being reminded, directly or not, by Graxx.
Persuasion: 16. (@Lerus: If need be, she'll burn a Chronal Shift to re-roll, which I'll leave to ya.)
Once things are settled one way or another, Obsben eventually asks of the party upon departing the livery, "Out of curiosity, none of you wouldn't happen to have a pearl worth about, uhm... say about 100 gold pieces?"

Utar looks at his borrowed coin and decides against any exotic mounts. What even is a camel? How would you even ride it, those humps getting in the way?
He'd stick with a regular ol' horse, thank you very much.
As Obsben went to haggle some more, he'd wish the halfling a little luck, lightly touching her shoulder and casting guidance for an extra 3.
Once Obsben was finished, he'd ask Tross for the total he owed for the horse, bridle, blankets, feed, riding saddle, saddle bags and leather barding. CRAP had places to go, people to track in the wilderness!
While curious about the "wild animal," Neya decides not to pry further and requests a riding horse, saddle, bridle, blanket and leather barding for the journey.
(OOC: Today's post will have to be a quick one, unfortunately.)
Tross chuckles a bit as Obsben tries to charm herself into additional information (with some help from Utar), but the experienced stable master knows how to hold his ground. "Some things are beyond even the most well-intentioned VIP customers," he says in a way that puts finality to the discussion.
Sensing the conversation is not going anywhere other than the negotiations at hand, CRAP then decides to simply finalize their individual transactions:
With that, the party concludes this transaction, walks outside to have their mounts prepared for them, regroup with Glory, and go on their way.
(OOC: Where to next? At some point you have mentioned the leatherworker, Cockburn's Grocery, The Laughing Goblin, Dockside Treasuries. Am I missing anything?)
Before the party leaves, Utar takes 10 days of feed for both himself and Neya.
(OOC I think the leatherworks was to find barding for a mount? Do we still need that? Cockburn's is a potential lead as is the Laughing Goblin. If we need that pearl, Dockside Treasures is a must, so Dockside/Goblin, then Cockburn's?)
"Mn~ That would be lovely, so long as its no too much trouble."Obsben replied in a soft smile to Graxx prior to their departure. During their departure and final preparations for their mounts, seeing the short hair on the Mastiff spurs Obsben on to spring another platinum for saddle bags and the brit and bridle. "Don't worry Basil. I'll be sure you don't have to wear that little thing too often now." She assured the Mastiff and pats his head a few times.
With the matter of mounts seen to before long, Obsben again plys the party on where a pearl of her desired value might be found. If however warned of the somewhat greedy nature of the pawnshop broker(who she would certainly inquire more into from the group, being the curious sort), then it is with little hesitance that she abandons the search citing, "It's no biggy. I have plenty of ways to reverse others fortunes well enough. Though if we should acquire a white pearl in this venture, I would appreciate having it. Though regardless, one last stop at *giggle* Cockburn's Grocery? Seems I'll at least be in need of extra rations for myself and Mr. Basil here."
(OOC: Deducted the coin for the Saddle Bags + Bit & Bridle. As well as preemptively deducted did the same for 10 more days worth of rations to go into the saddle bags. So 2 PP for 9 gp return from the change)
