"Let's not forget climbing equipment. Better to have it and not need it and not the other way around." Neya says. "Though that may involve a stop at the plaza, regardless."
(OOC: I am not sure I am distilling everyone's suggestions correctly, but I believe you are agreeing to stop by Dockside Treasure's next, right? I'll assume that's right for now. We can always turn back to another stop after this.)
Keeping a communal list of places to visit next while they talk among themselves, CRAP wanders towards the docks and gravitate towards the Dockside Treasures pawn shop. They pass by the large, silent security guard by the door and approach a familiar counter (though this is all new to Obsben.)
The shop is not very large but it is full of oddities. Utar, Neya, and Graxx know by now that most of the items here are nothing but strange trinkets. Most customers come in wanting to buy something to amuse children and gag gifts, or to decorate a creative spot in their homes. Sailors come in hoping to cash in on loot they find which is not coinage or cannot be sold to a regular shop or fenced through shady ones (probably because they have little value or few people would be interested in them). Nonetheless, every now and then, and perhaps more often than one would guess, the dragonborn clerk/owner of this shop finds herself holding a valuable gem, a unique spell component, or a powerful magic item which is reserved for the most discerning of patrons. They come at an expensive price, but they have delivered on the claimed powers/values to date.
"Welcome back," says the unnamed dragonborn lady, her scales already losing their original brightness due to age. "I see your halfling explorer has... transmuted himself. Interesting."She begins to light up a pipe. "Interested in my oddities?"
Assuming CRAP asks first for a pearl, the lady looks for and eventually brings a lockbox onto the counter. She opens it to reveal a series of stones and gems inside, all jumbled up in a messy pile with no care for their classification. Utar sees the green glint of something he guesses to be a valuable chunk of raw emerald among the mess, but there is also a lump of charcoal and a piece of a common cobblestone in there.
(@Ori: Let's see if she has a pearl worth 100gp in there. Please roll an arcana check that will function as a luck check here, since this is for a spell component. Also, did Obby cast aid already or is that still coming?)
(@All: Feel free to interact with the dragon lady and ask for whatever else you may be looking for here. It's been a while since you visited, so she might have a few new things. We'll see.)
Having been to this particular establishment a few times now, Utar likes to think he might just about be on nodding terms with the door guard and throws a quick greeting their way on entrance.
Transfixed by the raw emerald in the case, Utar wonders why that in particular has caught his attention. He can't think he has any particular uses for it, but does enquire about a price, although he's sure he can't meet it at this point.
Letting the others take the lead on discussing magic items, Utar delves into his own pack and produces a scroll of protection from energy and waits to see whether he can sell this to the owner instead.
"I've also a set of golden merchants scales and weights if you'd be interested, just painted gold, but might be something to the right buyer? Interesting provenance to it as well."
(OOC What are some of the more mundane items in the shop, the gag gifts?)

(@Lerus: Not yet. I preemptively added it, but it won't come into play until the group officially steps out of town. Though if its causing even more confusion, I'll remove it any changes there.)
"Mmm.... It wouldn't be the first time I've been transumted, as there was that one time I accidently turned myself into a caterpillar trying to reach some high. But, I don't think I am the halfling you were referring to." Obsben then goes into dainty bow, raising the hems of her outer robe every so much. "Obsben Overhill." She said politely enough, though ever present was that unnerving smile of her.
From there, she had indeed asked for a pearl and described its qualities. But unless the shopping counter or general area had halflings in mind, she'd unhesitatingly look to Graxx, grabbing at the air between them while saying, "Up, up, please", if but to get the boost needed to better study the goods.
"I admit, I am curious what new wares you've acquired since the last time we came here." Neya says, intrigued. "Perhaps in terms in other magical jewelry or long-range weapons?"
@Utar: The large but silent goliath man nods back at you. He seems to welcome repeated costumers as they imply less of a need for him to take action. He doesn't smile or looks particularly friendly, but responds to your gesture respectfully.
Utar kicks off any potential trades by inquiring about the large chunk of emerald in the box. The dragonborn lady does not move her eyes off the task in front of her, and somewhat nonchalantly gives the half-orc a quote: "That pretty stone will cost you 1,250gp, darling." Perhaps thrown back by the four-digit figure, Utar quickly moves the conversation toward a new item. This is one he wants to sell: a spell scroll. The hawker finishes collecting three pearls from the box before stopping to examine the scroll. She mumbles over the arcane writings, seemingly able to read them. Once satisfied with what she has seen, she makes an offer: "A good spell on the hands of a wizard. I'll give you 400gp for it." Finally, she nods and raises an eyebrow ridge showing interest in the golden scales and weights. "Put those in the counter. I'll get back to them soon." Graxx also mentions "scales" but the lady seems confused by his question: "My scales?"
Quickly turning to Obsben, the dragon lady responds to the halfling's self introduction with "Enchanted" instead of offering her own name back. She then finally shows her the three pearls. The largest one is of a traditional white color. The two smaller ones have either a yellow or pinkish hue to them. "That's 125gp for each of the pearls, darling."
(@MB: Please give me an insight check. @Ori can also roll one.)
(@Ori: What is Obsben's reaction to seeing Utar being close to sell a spell scroll knowing that she had asked about scrolls earlier, or at least one particular scroll?)
(@Grx: Was that a comment on @MB's use of the word "scales" or mine? @MB is referencing merchant scales he is possibly selling to the pawn shop. I had referenced the lady's dragon scales, which are losing their brightness due to her old age.)
Looking around the shop, everyone's eyes skim the many oddities and stop for a few extra seconds on an item that piques their curiosity. Some of you even handle a trinket or two in order to satisfy your curiosity.
@Utar: You notice a bit of folded cloth sitting on a shelf. You reach for it and, when unfolded, the cloth turns into a stylish cap. The headgear piece is made of the same material as the original cloth you spotted, but there is definitely some lower level enchantment in place here, possibly for the convenience of storing the cap.
@Neya: You spot a 1-inch cube, each side painted a different color. To you, it looks like nothing more than a child's plaything. You wonder if you could possibly employ it as a distraction but fear you might just be overthinking it.
@Obsben: Framed and hanging from a wall, you gaze at the deed for a parcel of land in a realm unknown to you. You wonder if that is the shopkeeper's homeland or if it is just another trinket up for sale.
@Graxx: On top of a small tray, you see a dead scarab beetle the size of your hand. You move to examine it and maybe even pick it up but you think twice of it. It is certainly a delicate item. You wouldn't want to break it or even inadvertently pull a leg off the insect.
@All: There are other trinkets and oddities around the shop. There is, for example, a set of bone pipes encased in glass, as well as a single silver spoon on a shelf with an 'M' engraved on the handle. You may keep browsing if you'd like.
When asked about magic items and specific gear, the dragon lady spins away from the counter and begins to move around the shop. You can see she has honed the skill of juggling multiple deals at the same time over the years. As she goes back and forth, she passes by Neya and places on her hand a golden necklace that comes to two points that never meet. Each point is adorned with bright green and red pendants that look like they belong in a witchcraft ritual rather than on a piece of fine gold jewelry. "That right there will help you breath under any difficult condition, darling. You'll never suffocate, gag, or even cough!"
VISUAL REFERENCE:
The dragonborn eventually comes back around holding the next offering: "This could suit your bow and arrows,"she states as she hands a green quiver over to Neya for her to examine. "It is capable of holding many more weapons and projectiles than you'd guess, and it comes preloaded with some as well."
VISUAL REFERENCE:
By the time she passes by the party again, she puts a hand on Graxx's shoulder and points to a saddle hanging on the wall. "I have seen the beautiful animal tied to the front of my shop, darling. Doesn't it deserve a saddle worthy of its name? One that will help protect both mount and rider?"The saddle has a decorated golden plate hanging on its side (the size of a saucer). Graxx guesses that it is integral to whatever protective enchantment the saddle bestows.

"Indeed. Quite potentially useful to where we're to go, but... I'm sure it'll be fine."Obsben added nonchalantly in response to Dragonborn's assessment on the scroll, before giving the half-orc a sleepy-eyed smile. Wordlessly, her attention shifts over to the deed next, and after a moment of studying it with her head canted to the side, her attention is once more drawn back to the shopkeeper.
"My oh my, such lovely little things. And certainly well worth their price I'm sure."She said, if but to by time to scrutinize the pearls. "Hmm... Business must've been going quite well for you." She adds, then gestures to the deed absently, half hopeful the Dragonborn might be spurred into a bit of storytelling.
Obsben's comment let's the penny drop for Utar, and he considers whether it would be better to disappoint the shopkeeper and hand the scroll off to their newest halfling instead.
Then again, it might serve to pay Graxx back his earlier loan...
Utar decides to keep his mouth shut for the moment. Better to appear wise for now than to soil the illusion by speaking and proving.otherwise. For now he waits in the price for the scales and whether Graxx is interested in the saddle currently being offered to him.
The hawker has caught the attention of all CRApers. She smiles in anticipations of deals being struck, mattering little if she is playing the part of seller or buyer. Her mind is moving quickly, her tongue engaging in four parallel negotiations.
@Utar: She walks back to the counter ans summarizes the quotes provided. "Darling, I will take that scroll off your hands (400gp) and give you the equivalent of 60gp for the golden scale and weights. That way, you only need to pay 790gp for the emerald. You can keep the pocket-cap as a gesture of goodwill." You take an insightful moment to reflect and gather that she is likely overvaluing the emerald and undervaluing the scale and weights set. You think her quote for the scroll is fair.
@Obsben: The pearls are quite pretty but you think she is trying to up-sell you on the smaller but more colorful ones. You gather that they might be just at the edge of being valuable enough for your spell, but there is a risk there. The quote seems steep to you (125gp for either). The larger white pearl seems to be priced about right (another 125gp). As for the deed on the wall, it seems to be written in a language you do not recognize. There is much text in it, which you gather contains a lot of legalese. In fact, the only reason you can tell this is a land deed is the little placard on the wooden frame around the document, which reads in common: "Deed to a parcel of otherworldly land", as if the whole display belonged to a museum at some point. In response to your nod, the dragon lady only reinforces what the little placard says, but admits some doubt to the claim: "Fantastical lands out there, but there is no telling where the claimed piece of land might be located, if it is indeed a valid document." She does not quote a price for it.
@Neya: "I see you are interest in the items I have measured for you, darling." She grins widely. "The necklace can be yours for a mere 1,500gp, a meager price for the promise of unrestricted access to air, wouldn't you say?"She then handles the quiver once more. "And this fine piece will cost you 1,000gp by itself, or 2,000gp with its mystery contents. You have my word that you won't be disappointed."
@Graxx: "Worthy indeed, and so are you my great warrior. Fulfill your beast's potential for the small price of only 1,200gp." She points to the scarab on a tray and add: "The price includes the scarab beetle as well."
Rubbing a hand across his chin Utar considers the offer of the dragonborn. Grimacing, he shakes his head.
"Not today. I think that the scroll might be better off with us for now and I think the merchants scales might be better off cluttering someone else's stockroom. I imagine there are finer things in there anyway. Maybe I'll come back for the emerald another time, perhaps not. Sorry to have wasted your time."
Giving the dragonborn a respectful nod of the head, he heads to the door and waits for the rest of CRAP, handing off the scroll to Obsben.
"As it could very well be. Unfortunately, I never did pick up the proper divination spell for translating the more otherwordly text, otherwise I could confirm it for you. Although... you don't strike me as one who minds knowing either which way."Obsben comments before finally gesturing to the larger white pearl. "I'll take that one off your hands, if that's alright." She requests and promptly pulls out the thirteen platinums needed to purchase the pearl. Oddly enough, Obsben quickly put away the pearl afterwards, but held onto and study the gold pieces as if they were the bigger treasure.

@Obsben: The lady shrugs at your assumption and turns to close the deal on the pearls. Twenty gold pieces are all that I ask." As for holding the necklace, she points at the saddle as if to indicate her answer would be the same one she gave to the only other human in the shop at the moment. @Graxx: "My prices are always fair," she lies with a smile on her face. "I will keep my fingers crossed no other adventure strides into my shop in need of a saddle before you can return."
@Neya: "Finally, someone with deep pockets. Here you go, the quiver and its contents are yours in exchange for 2,000gp." She pauses for a second and adds: "I also offer identifying services, if you'd care to know all the details of your purchased item right away. Twenty gold pieces are all that I ask." As for holding the necklace, she points at the saddle as if to indicate her answer would be the same one she gave to the only other human in the shop at the moment. "Were you to leave a deposit, however, perhaps I could hold on to it a bit tighter. Let's say... half of the final price?"
@All: "Is there anything else I can help you with before you leave my Dockside Treasures?"
