Wolfhunter makes a show of looking around and says, “Ship must be haunted.”
Icewalker shouts out, “HEY CAP’N. It appears the ship is haunted with ugly little gnomes. Make sure they don’t infest our quarters, they might steal our booze!”
Wolfhunter cracks his knuckles ominously and flexes his biceps, speaking in Cyro’s general direction (not to him but more at the space above his head) “And then we’d have to do somethin’ about it.”
"Thank you very much for the drink." Fro picks up her mug and takes a pretty good drink. "Your own brew, very nice." I am Fro and it is very nice to meet you both. This is my friend Faloniir. We are actually going to try and save our lives. We have been cursed and need a cure." Fro pushes her mug to Faloniir to share.
Faloniir will remain silent and wait for the appropriate amount of time before excusing himself from the table. His focus is on getting to their destination without incident. He does not want to potentially jeopardize the success of the mission by getting into a fight with these troublesome Goliaths.
The two goliaths hardly notice your departure from their company and continue to drink, laughing loudly and obnoxiously. The other passengers steal annoyed or worried glances and slink away to bed. The captain gives them a frown but doesn’t say anything, walking away and shaking his head.
You can hear the goliaths through the night making noise and being rowdy. Eventually they pass out and the next day dawns clear and cold.
DAY THREE since being exposed to the powder in Hulil's thrown vial
DAY TWO of the sea voyage
The morning is calm and peaceful, the ocean rolling gently, the ship seeming to make good progress. Cyro and Fro, you wake feeling chilled. You each notice on your skin a network of thin blue lines starting to branch out out from your breastbone area.
The two goliaths are nowhere to be seen at breakfast, likely sleeping in. But they’re awake at lunchtime and already starting to drink again. Looks like they’re winding up for another raucous day.
After lunch they amuse themselves on the main deck by continuing to drink, sing, and tell jokes. At one point a sailor needs to get by them and they intimidate the poor lad by blocking his path and growling at him, and he turns around and goes back the other way. The pair laugh at this and amuse and start going around bothering some of the other sailors while they work, getting close to them, towering over them, and barking or growling at them menacingly. The sailors try their best to continue their tasks but they’re shaken.
Captain Hightower, catching wind of this, marches up to the pair and, with an effort of keeping his composure, says through gritted teeth,
“Time for you to go belowdecks, and stop interfering with my crew.”
Icewalker draws himself up while Wolfhunter smirks at the captain. Icewalker says,
“Your boat smells terrible, so we like it up here. Fresh air and clear skies.”
Hightower says,
“I insist that you return to your quarters and leave my crew alone.”
Wolfhunter cracks his knuckles (as he is apparently wont to do) and says menacingly, “Or what…?”
Cyro sees the blue veins and drops what he is holding from his hands, which does not shatter. Realisation has struck him, and his confidence of finding a cure before his death unravels like a stretched out chain without a lock. He knows he will most likely die now that his suspicions are confirmed, but he wants to die on a positive note. He urgently goes to the captain and shows him that he has symptoms of the disease. ”You know why I came here with to others, to cure a disease, do you not? It appears I have this disease. I don’t have long left, and I want you to know that this disease is highly lethal.”
Fro will go to where the captain is confronting the two goliaths and try to intervene.
"Hello again my friends. As much fun as you are having on this trip, I really need for this boat to make as fast a trip to Eiselcross as it can. Is there any way we can let the crew do their work so we can move as swiftly as possible? Have fun with the crew, other than my friends, If they can't handle themselves, that is their problem. But the shipmates need to be left to work as well as they can."
She smiles at them both. "IceWalker and Wolfhunter are both very strong clan names, Not sure If I told you my clan name is FroZen. I am from the Incas clan, do you both come from the same tribe? Which mountains are you from...." more small talk. "How about we go have some more of your homebrew?"
The pair turn to you, Fro, and glare. Then Wolfhunter scoffs, “Incas? Never heard of ‘em.”
Icewalker looks Fro up and down and says, “I suppose it would be best to get to our destination fast. But we didn’t bring enough grog for you to be drinking it too.”
The pair stalk off to go belowdecks.
The captain gives you his thanks but adds, “I don’t think we’ve seen the last of ‘em. I don’t suppose I could ask you to deal with them if they cause more trouble? Normally I wouldn’t ask passengers for help but, well, Elro holds you in such high regard…”
Faloniir will offer, "We'll, it seems to me they may be suffering from boredom and aren't coping well. What if we organized some contests like feats of strength or endurance to entertain them? Who can climb the rigging the fastest or who can hold a cannonball in their outstretched hand the longest? Things like that."
“If we do that, I will participate. Maybe for comic relief, or maybe for a worthy opponent. I am a stronger gnome than I look. But good idea, Faloniir.”
"That is an excellent Idea Faloniir, that is why I ask you smart people for guidance." I will talk to the captain tomorrow about doing something like that. She looks at Cyro and smiles. "Practice up on your athletics.. lol"
That evening is a repeat of the previous night, with the two goliaths drinking and generally making a scene. At one point Captain Hightower approaches you and asks, “Well, any ideas?”
If you explain your idea to him, the captain thinks for a minute and says,
“Well it’s worth a try, could even be fun. What contests did you have in mind?”
"Glad you like the idea." Since our main goal is to appease the goliaths, lets make the contests about them. So how about some strength contests, but lets make them ship related as well. Some ideas would be:
Arm wrestling (not ship related, but obvious, wouldn't want to do regular wrestling, could get violent if one of the goliaths, including me go all rage)
pole climbing up the mast to get a silver coin.
rope climbing (same concept)
picking up increasingly heavier chests
maybe a drinking contest (who can drink a mug the fastest) (who can drink the biggest mug without stopping), etc
Captain Hightower says, “I give my approval. I suppose it’ll have to be tomorrow, which means another night of their noise. I’ll announce it tomorrow once they’ve arisen from their beauty sleep, and then I’ll leave the running of the contests to you. Sound fair? Great. Have a good night!”
DAY FOUR since being exposed to the powder in Hulil's thrown vial
DAY THREE of the sea voyage
The seas are choppy in the morning, threatening to add a layer of complexity to your contests. As usual, the goliaths are holed up in their cabin for breakfast, likely sleeping off the night before. Around mid morning they do eventually emerge and get some food. Then, before they can get up to any antics, the captain summons all to the main deck and makes an announcement.
“Nine days can pass very slowly without some entertainment. So we’re going to have a bit of fun. A series of contests, feats of strength and the like. And to make it interesting, the one who does the best in the games will earn a prize!”
(the captain leans over to you and says out of the corner of his mouth, “I was thinking about it last night and thought we might need to entice them”)
Here the captain flourishes something out of his coat and holds it up for all to see. It’s a bronze tube with inlay of silver and gold, with lenses at both ends. “That prize will be this lovely spyglass! A useful object in its own right, or else fairly valuable to the right buyer. I’ve used it for many years and it has served me well, but I’m willing to part with it now in the spirit of good clean competition!”
The Captain explains that the winner of each contest will get 3 points, the runner up 1 point. Whoever has the most points at the end wins the spyglass. The contests are:
Tug of war (2 vs 2)
Heavy chest lift (strength)
Climb the rigging (speed)
The goliaths appear interested in the contests. Grins split their faces and they put their heads together. A few crewman also come forward to participate.
Faloniir will wink at Fro and Cyro and stride confidently to the center of the gathering with his head held high and chest puffed out. He'll say loudly for all to hear, "Which one of you is coming in second?" Turning to look at the Goliath's and the rest that have stepped forward to compete, "Because I'M coming in first."
The two goliaths look Faloniir up and down as if they're seeing him for the first time, and they grin confidently. They both step forward, Wolfhunter cracking his knuckles as usual, Icewalker making a show of stretching out by arcing his neck and bending his arms.
Captain Hightower says, "Oh, and arm-wrestling, I almost forgot that one. Also arm-wrestling!"

Persuasion: 7 (OOC: need initiative now... lol)

I will talk to my friends, See if they have any ideas. But yes, we will try to help you deal with them. Just please get there as fast as you can."
