Avaria, staying in the mix of flailing tentacles slams her axe down, catching the squid at just the right moment. A sharp hissing sound escapes from the maw of the creature as it clings to the side of the ship.
The ballista crew try swinging their platform around further, but it becomes clear that they can't target the squid when they're attached to the ship itself. For a moment they're unsure what to do. But then the gravely voice of the First Mate calls across from the quarterdeck.
"Don't just stand there. Get the mooring poles and push these bloody squid off the ship," she calls out.
The trio of Slick, Tammer, and Carnavon scramble down from the forecastle, try to avoid the tentacles and grab some of the mooring poles from the side rails and try pushing the port side squid.

Ethel and Marrin hear a crunching of wood and metal above their heads, sounding as if the roof of the cabin is cracking. The others can see that more tentacles have come up over the bow of the ship and have crushed part of the ballista, making it inoperable. This must be the third squid that they had first seen. Jan's sure of it as she can still feel the connection via her magic.
