Zane medicine check with guidance: 15

Zane

Looking closer at the body, there is a large gaping wound in his side, reminiscent to the one Bellamy sustained on the boat yesterday during the fight with Vrakath. You also notice that there is a blood trail, leading back into the captains quarters.

Zane says, "Looks similar to what the guy has done before, to Bellamy. There's a blood trail..."

He follows the trail and, standing with his back to the wall next to the door, pushes (or pulls) it open.

Tex, who was waiting with Bellamy, follows him as he rushes towards the scream. When they meet up with Rel, he awaits her response to Bellamy's question with his eyes wide open. 

"Vale discovered the Captain dead aboard the Dragonfly.  Attacked and mutilated.  Barely recognizable other than his metal leg.  No immediate sign of Zandir or the rest of the crew.  Zane is investigating.  I suspect the green man we fought, or perhaps the recipients of the crate cleaning up loose ends."

As Rel turns and lopes back to the Dragonfly, she summons her Mage Hand and casts Guidance once more, this time on herself.

Shocked, Tex follows Rel, his mind racing. But he keeps some distance at first, then steps into a side street altogether and approaches the ship's dock from a different direction. He remains at an unsuspicious distance as if waiting for someone to arrive at another dock and there he stays for some time, observing carefully if anyone appears to be spying on the Dragonfly and his companions. 

Bellamy is shocked and heads down to see it for himself. "Oh captain. I thought we saved you from this fate." He touches the scar left behind from Vrakath. "let me see if I can glean anything else."

He then spends 10 minutes to cast detect magic

 Zane, as you open the door you see the body of Zandir lying there. Dead or alive you do not know. His body is not mutilated compared to that of the captain

"There are no magical traces nearby. I suppose Vrakath enacted his revenge. Lets contact the authorities. Maybe they will have better luck" says Bellamy

Shield donned, Rel takes the ten minutes during which Bellamy casts Detect Magic to go over the rest of the Dragonfly herself, including the cargo hold.  Looking for any signs of a struggle, scuff-marks or bloodstains on the deck that had not been there before, remnants of any other crewmen.

(Ooc me waking up from going out last night and having an hangover this morning coming back too see the captain dead the words “oh shit” did come out of my mouth) 

Thren looks at the body “you think it’s that other fellow we meet that was with the pirates?”

Zane checks for vital signs on Zandir. 

Then he does a quick lookaround for any signs of something specifically targeted, knowing that the captain got a heavy bag of coin the previous day. 

Medicine check: 13.

Zane, you check Zandir for a pulse and do indeed find one. You also see a large wound in his side that is spewing quite a bit of blood still.

Rel, looking about the ship you can tell that whatever happened, happened quick. Perhaps caught by surprise. You do also see the blood trail that leads back to the captains quarters

Zane quickly casts a Healing Word on Zandir (for 8 hp).

If he wakes up then Zane will ask him if they are in immediate danger and if they should do something immediately. 

You see the wound partially close as Zandir gasps for air as he comes to consciousness. "Gahhh, what....where is he... where is Vrakath? What are you doing here?" He listens to you Zane and says "Vrakath, I don't know where he went. The Captain, protected you. Vrakath kept asking where you all went and the captain, just held silent while that green monster mutilated him. Ripped him apart. I watched as he held me still with some spell before cutting me down. He must have thought me dead as well. I do not know where he went."

Rel follows the blood trail to join Zane and Zandir, her dark-skinned face grim and jaw set.  From her pack, she pulls a single black raven's feather which she stares at and turns in her hand as Zandir speaks of Captain Flame on Water's fate.  Her grey irises briefly turn pitch black once more.

"Vrakath.  He wanted us, not the Captain, then.  Was he alone, Zandir?  If so, I wish he were here right now so we could end it.  Instead we wait, wondering when he will find us to strike.  We must honor the Captain as best we can and report this to the authorities.  Where are the rest of the crew?"

Zane lets Zandir answer the question from Rel first and then follows up with, "Did he say anything else about his plans? Anyone else he was looking for? I'm just wondering how we can track him down instead of vice versa."

He gathers himself and says, "Anyways, we have other shit to deal with as well. You should come with us right now, Zandir, or you'll get killed for real."

Tex continues to observe the Dragonfly from the neighbouring pier for any indication that this might be a trap or that someone is spying on them. As soon as his companions leave the ship, he joins them again and lets them fill him in.
