Rain still looking out the window in the direction where they saw the flare calls out, "Ah! Saralyn, you are right! Look, over the tops of the buildings...in the distance, I can see a great many arrows flying! A battle has already begun!"
Calling to the red-bearded dwarf: "Flint! Arrows in the sky! We see a battle has already begun," pointing out the window to the north, "out that way, in the direction of the desert temple."
(OOC: I assume that news of an active battle may lead to chaos in the household. Since we're posting asynchronously, here are Rain's thoughts:
Rain would like to get moving toward the battle quickly.
He wants to get close enough to the fighting that they can see who the combatants are and the size of the forces without getting caught up in the fighting.
He does not want to rush right into a battle between two armies, "What difference could a half-dozen more fighters make? The king hired us to help with this strange temple and the unnatural storms, not to fight in his army."
If it's clear that there's a massive army at the town's wall, he'll prefer to find a way out of the town, sneaking around the flank of the army.
For example, instead of heading straight north to the battle, maybe escape the city to the west and then circle back around toward the north of the city to get a view of the attackers.
If they're spotted, they can always flee west. He assumes that an army wouldn't chase a small band that's simply fleeing the city.
Provisions
Since he left his spear and most of his rations at the castle, Rain will want to pick up some food on the way out of the city if they don't pass back by the castle.
Just in case they end up traveling all the way out to the temple, Rain will want everyone carry a few full waterskins before leaving the city and its wells.
Rain will let Flint and the human guard decide what they're supposed to do in the case of an attack like this.
Do they have to wait here for Sand to return?
Are they supposed to rush toward the battle?
Are they supposed to return to the castle to defend it?
The noble and his wife panic. The dwarf stands up, weapon in hand. The human relaxes against the wall.
(In the room with the guard...)
Since Jorzaeramon isn't really a member of the Defenders, he never joined the others at the window. If they're running toward the battle, he thinks that he'll probably be safer here at the noble's house, especially if some of the king's guardsmen remain.
Since he's still with the guard, Jor noticed his change in posture: "You seem unconcerned about at attack on the town. Are you not part of the defenses?"
(At the window with Salchar and Saralyn and maybe Corric...)
Rain tries to be reassuring, but given his experience in the last 24 hours, he's not confident that anywhere in the town is safe. "Sir!,"trying to get the noble's attention. "The battle may still be outside the city walls, so you may be safe here. I cannot tell anything for certain from here, and my friends and I need to go get a closer look."
More quietly to the others by the window: "Salchar, Saralyn, Corric, are you ready? Bring all your gear: we have to be ready for anything, possibly even a trek into the desert. Make sure your waterskins are full before we leave here."
Calling back to the dwarf in the other room: "Flint, are you with us? Or will you stay here to wait for Sand?"
The guard laughs to himself. "These attacks are fairly normal. The goblins never win anyways. Unless this is different, which will at least be interesting. But if you need me, I can fight with you." He pulls a knife out of one of his boots.
"I'll stay here and wait for Sand. You can go. Just be careful." Flint says.

Corric twirls his spear and heads to the door in a hurry, little legs moving quickly and Salchar sends his hawk out to do a quick recon of their immediate area. (Hawk perception: 23 ) (It has 60ft of fly speed, just checking to make sure that there's no ambush in our immediate vicinity) Salchar's eyes glow as he sees through his familiar's eyes "I'll have my familiar scout as needed. Let's move towards the commotion and see if we can put out any fires or panic. Someone should cover are rear."

Rain, hearing this, calls back, "No, you stay here with Flint. Protect the house and wait for Sand. Flint, if Sand returns, let him know that we went to investigate the attack at the North Wall and that we will return to the castle when we can."
Jorzaeramon, still sensing the tension between the two, leans closer to the guard, "Given the recent attack and your injury, your life may some day depend on them," glancing toward the Rain and the others gathering in the entryway. "You have clearly engendered some suspicion already, and you wouldn't want to give them any more reason to doubt you. Just some friendly advice." He waves the black rod that he carries toward the guard's bowl, and the ice in the bowl melts back into water.
Jor finally heads toward the entryway to see what the group is looking at.
"I am ready. But we need to make sure we know what's going on before we do something like wander into the desert."
Rain smiles and makes a funny, high-pitched laugh that's a little incongruous with his height. "Hee-hee-hee. Do not worry, Saralyn. When I go into the desert, I do not wander. And we certainly won't go there without need. But need may drive us into the desert and soon. Be ready."
Rain looks out the door to check that there's no immediate danger. (Perception Perception18)
Jor approaches and gives the group a slight bow, "You're heading out? May luck go with you into danger!"
Assuming that there's no immediate danger, Rain steps back inside and moves quickly to stand beside Jorzaeramon, facing the door. He wraps an arm around the sorcerer's thin shoulders in an overly-friendly gesture. Jor looks a little startled, but he finds that Rain is holding him firmly, cat's claws extended. Rain gives Jor a toothy grin and says, "You offered to help before, but we have an even better opportunity for you now! The guards are staying here, and we need a guide who knows this city." As he talks, Rain moves with the sorcerer toward the door. He pushes Jor through the door, glancing at Salchar and winking as he does so. Rain then steps outside and wraps his head scarf over his head for protection from the sun and heat.
Salchar sighs and Corric pries the mouse of the the hawks talons "A familiar doesn't need to eat this poor mouse right Sir Salchar?" The fire gensi nods with an embarrased chuckle, "we move then Corric take the rear, Rain I'm assuming you'd like to lead? Myself and Jor can stand guard in the middle with Saralyn floating? Does that sound like a good plan for ourtravels? A battle awaits!"
The halfling and Genasi take their place as the group moves out of the house. Once outside and far enough away, Salchar whispers loud enough for just the group to hear, "Tis a good thing we've separated from the guards... Something shady is afoot."
As the class is right now, yes. Any time a creature dies, I can get a Spirit Flame, and they all function the same no matter the creature they come from. Should I change it to sentient creature?

Jorzaeramon quickly regains his composure and starts to protest, "I'm hardly the man for this kind of mission. My skills are trade and dealing with people. I'm no warrior." Of course, you've already seen that his bag of gear has a crossbow strapped to it with a quiver of bolts.
Rain grabs Jor's arm as he tries to move back toward the noble's house, "A merchant who deals in stolen jewelry, eh? More of a burglar, I think. But do not fear. We are not charging into battle. We just need to get close enough to see who fires those arrows," pointing at the sky toward the north (OOC: IIRC, the temple is north of the city). "And who is making that green light in the sky."
Jor looks toward Corric and Saralyn to see whether there's a sympathetic face there. "That sounds like a good plan, but you hardly need me. Head north, straight on to the wall. Take a look. Godspeed! I --"
Rain interrupts, "No! We don't know what we'll find. There may be an army inside the walls already. And I bet you know how to navigate the alleys of this Onyx District and even some good places to hide, eh?" Rain picks up Jor's bag and tosses it at him. Jor catches it clumsily.

"Yes, I can lead. The brave burglar," indicating Jorzaeramon, "right after me so that he can point the way and to make sure that he doesn't bravely wander off. Ha!"
"And I agree, Corric in the rear, if you will. Just keep your ears open for anything approaching from behind. If we suddenly come upon the enemy, Corric can run up to me while the others fall back. Or vice versa, if we are ambushed from behind, I will join Corric, while you all keep your distance and help from range. But with any luck, there won't be any fighting."
Rain draws one of his scimitars, and if everyone else is ready, he heads toward the north wall.

advantage and two nat ones.... damn
Your hawk sees:
The hawk sees some buildings, and of the kings men. He then sees a mouse, and begins to watch the mouse and forget his purpose.
And sorry, but I think you chose a blind hawk.

Yeah. Technically, you didn't roll badly, the hawk did.

(So there isn't a sheet for mouse, but there is for rat. I rolled health, which is 1d4-1, and rolled a 1. So the mouse has 0 health...)
The mouse freezes as the hawk begins to eat it.
