Uril's gaze met Lorsan's and the scribe gave him a knowing nod. An arcane lock was a hurdle they had not considered. He locked around and noticed that Early was no longer in the room, just like Robin. Uril hoped/assumed that this meant the duo had found alternate ways to reach their target. It felt, more and more, that the group's opportunity would have to wait until this room was left uninhabited once more.
With that in mind, Uril fought his urge to keep staring at the stone and tried to identify any other security measures in the room which he had not yet noticed.
The eyes could tell Uril only so much in this crowded room. He did notice the gilded grill above covering a supposed hole, and then, to its left on the other wall - a slight break (or rather imperfection) in the general decor of the wall. It could be only one thing - a closet to keep cleaning supplies. Robin already found one like that. The difference here is, you do not remember anything like that on the other side of the wall.
However, where eyes fell, logic could work. Uril could see the guards inside right now, but what would be the point of keeping them here after guests are gone and doors are closed? Yet, alarms never hurt anyone. Would be only logical to expect something like this on both doors leading into the room. Maybe reinforced with the guards too. Kind of paranoid thought but was not curator known for his paranoia?
Uril wasn't sure if Lorsan had noted the gilded grill above, which was supposedly covering a hole. He subtly elbowed his new companion and nodded toward the grill, just to be sure they both had that piece of information for their considerations.
Did it feel like folks would be escorted out of the gem room soon?
The crowd only began to thin a bit. Some returned to snacks, some are walking about. No one forces people out, maybe the Duke has something in mind for a ceremony of closing the room too.
Guessing that making a move on the egg in this crowd might not be practical, Lorsan takes advantage of the attention on the egg to subtly take a look at the 'closet' nearby...

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
It is definitely this type of closet. The wall panel is easily moved (the door is not locked) and Lorsan can smell the dust and soap, the usual smells of such places.
Uril continues to look around, wondering if there are any windows in the egg room. He also tires to spot the other side of the door that seemingly connects the egg room to the "Archeology Display". Is there a guard on this side of that door too?
Early returns from the bathroom and wanders back into the main room. He glances at the egg, and then around for his various companions. Hmmm. They had so many plans. Plans within plans. So many plans in fact that it sorta curled around back into no plan land. He scratched his head. They were supposed to be saving the world. Where was Lorsan. He was the one who knew what to do. He wandered around looking for Lorsan. He needed to report in. There he was, looking at a closet. Weird. He walked up to him. In his best prissy noble voice he said, "Hello good sir. Have you seen my sister, I seem to have misplaced her." Then in a hopefully subtle quieter voice he said,"Maybe could get through the bathroom walls into or outta here. Should I cause a distraction of some sort? Do we need the bag from the front hall? I have many questions about the lettered plans we came up with."

I'm sorry good sir, I have not! Lorsan replies loudly enough to be heard, then adds in a softer tone, I expect she's either passed out somewhere, or found a useful entry point. The elf then continues to pass on information hidden amongst normal inane speech...
But have you seen the egg yet? Most impressive! ...in it's security measures. I hope not too much to handle.
I'll be sorry to see this exhibition close, won't you? Then we can continue with Plan A. An opportunity grab seems out of the question now.
I certainly hope you find your sister! although her bag is here with me. Is there anything you need from it?
Have you checked the restrooms? Good thinking. Might come in useful. Meanwhile, let's continue to gather as much intel as possible.

Early nods with a big knowing grin as Lorsan divulges all the goodies. He looks at the bag, "I say, at this party, it's probably too early to adorn myself in my evening attire." He is quite proud of the number of froo froo words he just used.
With nothing left to do but gather more intel, he looks around at the room. Is there anyone else here who looks like the might be casing the joint? He hadn't considered the option before, but watching out for competitors is always a thing. He carefully watches the crowd in the room, seeing if he can get any strange vibes from any of them.
There is definitely a guard outside the other door (the same one Uril saw before, there was no change of shifts). The part of the wall, that supposedly leads into the closet on the other side does not look like a moving panel or a closet door. One would need to check from inside the closet itself to say for sure if it's a regular wall.
Checking things up again, brought another reward, though. Uril noticed a couple of objects that, assessed by his impeccably sharp eye, could pass by weight and - very roughly - shape as "the egg": an alabaster vase (or maybe it was an urn) and a peculiar metal sphere covered with stylized depictions of humanoids and animals.
Meanwhile, the guests segregated into small groups most of which migrated outside the Gemstone wing. Eventually, the Duke in his flashy manner invited everyone to pay their respect to the culinary wonder of the Baker's Guild - the Chocolate Buttercup cake (indeed, of a big wedding size and mix of mouthwatering smells that seemed to get through the very walls). For the moment, the only people left in the Gemstone wing were the two watchful guards inside and a servant outside. Maybe a guest or two indifferent to the sweets and some scholars too deep in their conversations to notice anything else.
None of the remainers (or those who left) looked like a competition to Early. Yet again, if they were, they would not be much of a competition, would they?
Uril was already next to Loarsan and welcomed the Early's approach. The group was almost all together again. Uril didn't understand whatever code language the experienced thieves might be using, not completely at least, so he reverted to simple whispers. "See the vase in the corner. I couldn't help but notice its shape. It sort of resembles the stone, does it not? I think we found our replacement weight for the lock." Uril was especially careful to lower his volume even more toward the end of his statements.
Unless Lorsan and Early show any sign that they are about to jump into action, Uril will excuse himself from the stone room and find his way back to the "Archeology Display" room. Is the guard posted at the door that looks like it should lead to the egg room still the only guard in there? Are there any guests in this room or anyone else other than the guard?
The guard is alone and the guests are not wandering in this enfilade of relatively boring rooms anymore. Not with the cake and open Gemstone wing. Of course, anything can happen, but so far, Uril is the only one running back and forth all the way through the banquet room and staring at the guard (who begins to recognize him too).
If guards recognized Uril's face it was not a suspicious recognition, merely a watchful eye of a bored guardsman. He nodded to Uril's question and then shook his head. "That would be the opposite side of this floor, sir. You would have to go all the way back, then through the banquet hall, turn right and go to the end of the corridor." He looked at Uril sympathetically to his the problem.
"Thank you," Uril says in appreciation of the detailed explanation. "Perhaps you'd like a small washroom break yourself? Please go ahead, I can stay behind and watch this room while you are away." He smirks and shakes his head. "No, no, it is no bother. Please go ahead. LEAVE."

Guard's save: 14 (13)
Judging by the facial expression, the guard's brain sensed that something is odd here. Yet, the body obediently turned and began to walk down the long enfilade. In the middle of the next room, the body caught up with the brain and a very confused, scared and angry guard began to walk back. "You should not use magic here, sir. Please, leave now."
His words did not contain any magic but were full of other very real energy - the authority of a guard-on-duty.
