“Why are you lying to us?” Says Val sudden and plainly to them. Looking at the young human. He tilts his head to one side and adds “We are not going to hurt you. If you want to be part of our pack, even for a night, you shoul not lie to us.”
Not understanding Val’s distrust, Gendan asks the travelers, “So what can you tell us about these goblins? We are hoping to help get rid of the problem.”
The man says, "The goblins? They were small and kinda yellowish. One of them had a damaged ear and another one had an eye-patch (Not uncommon in this world). We had just arrived in the Vandanore region when they ambushed us. They held us at knife point and took all our stuff."
You see that they aren't carrying anything besides the clothes they're wearing.
Gymgiel will watch this conversation unfold. Don't want too many fingers in the pie on this one.

Gendan nods to the villager. "I'm not willing to fight with Val on this point, but if we find your stuff when we take out those goblins, we'll do our best to return it to you." Then Gendan exits the conversation, goes to sit on the cart, and pulls out her longsword to sharpen the blade. The mention of goblins, and more detail about them has her itching to use her blade.
“You should look for a safe spot near the river while we take care of the goblins” he says still looking suspicious of the couple. “I hope that you trust us now”
The woman looks at Val and says in a sad tone, "Evie River? If you didn't want us around then you could've been more blunt about it. We will leave if you really dislike us that much..." She gets teary.
Val (from his insight check) you feel that the woman's words are genuine and you have truly insulted her. However, their previous statements not including this one has been giving you mixed signals. It felt like they were lying and telling the truth at the same time before.
(Val, it would take at least 4 days to get to Evie River or anywhere near it. Telling the couple with no weapons or armor to venture in to the forest filled with wild animals to get to the river is like telling them to go kill themselves. I would ask you to re-think what you said but I think it goes well with your character. Being one with nature, he may not know how to read the map properly.)
Elsara, you hear their stomachs rumbles as you take out your rations, but they reject the offer because they have been offended. "It's quite alright." Says the woman, "We'll be leaving now."

Skiirod manages to calm the girl down and convinces them to stay and eat. They definitely weren't lying when they said they haven't eaten much. Each of them went through a day's worth of rations in one sitting.
"Thanks. We really appreciate the food." The man who was quite while the girl was upset, says "So are you guys going to set up camp here?"
"Maybe, we were just talking about where to set up camp when you came along, you are free to stay with us whilst we rest here as we have some Goblins to deal with." Skriiod replies as he sits down."We were going to travel during the night so we escape the heat of the sun."
"I see. That's a smart move" says the seedy looking man, "We were traveling for most of the day so we were about to set camp near here. If you travel through the night then I guess we'll be seeing you."
As Skiirod sits down with them he gets a good look at the woman. Make an Insight (INT) check.

The woman raises and eyebrow and says, "You're going to fight the goblins? Good luck." The man says, "Anyway, can we trouble you for some food?"
"Oh, sure." Elsara kneels down and removes her pack, beginning to rummage through it to get a couple of days worth of rations out for them.
They look at Elsara expectantly.
DM: How many days worth of rations are you going to give them?
Val also give them two days rations

Just to say, Folki is fast asleep in the back of the cart at the moment, cocooned in his wings as normal. He has no clue any of this is going on.
