The party continues along the trail and through the rain. The Lizards don't care much for the rain but once the road begins to turn muddy, it proves to be effect at slowing down the party. Moving slowly, they arrive at the bank of Evie River at 10: 00 PM where they set up camp for the night. The ground is too muddy to sleep on so they stay inside the carriage. After spending a very cramped night inside the wooden vehicle, the party wakes up sore in the morning. It is still raining. Getting back on the road, they finally arrive in Sydil at some time after noon. Normally the bright sun would be high over their heads at this time but the dark clouds of Monsoon have almost blocked it out. There are people walking about in the rain and still doing their business. Light rain like this during the monsoon tend to stay for days so they can't afford to stay home for the day.
Gendan is the first one to enter the Guild Building. Catherine sees her and says, "Oh you're back. Horace wanted to see you guys. He said he had something to say. Also a package came from Captain Cerax. You have a Rapier+1, Half Plate+1 and Shield+1 waiting for the party."
Elsara pulls the hood from her cloak down upon entering, wiping her feet and drying her clothes."Good afternoon, Miss Darkwing!" She says brightly as she doffs the cloak, stowing it into her new backpack."How have things been here?" Elsara makes sure she is tidy before properly entering the guildhall, offering to dry others as they enter.
Catherine says, "Things have been a bit busy and Horace seems to be stressed. We've had an influx of packages, one from the University, one addressed to Val from Camenose Village and the last one was from the Captain. Poor guy was also dealing with letters from the Council. Other than that, things seem to be fine for now."
“Hi Catherine,” Gendan looks over the package from the Captain, “I think the rest of the crew can probably make use of these things, but I’m happy to make the most of its value if any of it gets passed over.”
Gendan then heads over the job board to see what’s currently posted.
Devarus stops by his house to drop off a few things on the groups way in. But when he arrives, he mimics Elsara as best he could in cleaning himself, though would regretably have to forgo the magical approach. Aside from a polite wave to everyone's favorite receptionist, the half-drow was content to just observe. At first. Make use, Ms. Gendan? Ah, so its here then. That' s good to hear!" His grin soon turns into a worried smile. "Uhm... the guild would not happen to have protected storage here, would they? For the use of its members? If so, I would like to place these in the guild's care for now."He gestures to his own armor.
"That is, unless you wish posses the armor, Mr. Val? In which case, I would only take the Rapier and shield for those emergency cases."He asked.

Catherine says, "Your rooms have enough space to store most things but the Guild can also hold on to particularly large and heavy things for you. This place is pretty secure though." OOC: You can store whatever items you want here. Just put a note on it in the "Other Possessions" section of your character sheet.
The Job board:
Message 1:
My grandfather was a notorious bandit in the Orien region. Recently, he was captured and executed in Farendale. However, his ring which was a family heirloom has been missing since. I do not like my grandfather's ways but I would like the ring back.
-Ellise Rainseed, Sydil
Message 2 (Written in Catherine's handwriting):
The bad playwright is still at it. Go help him out so I don't have to sift through his long and shitty plays.
-Catherine
Message 3:
We have reports of people going missing in the Teahill Grasslands of Orien. The grasslands are known to have hostile wildlife so we believe that to be the case. However, at the request of Horace Sweetcane, I have decided to report anything remotely odd to the Guild. Don't tell Commander Daryll though. He gets really scary sometimes
-Liam Wildstar, Attendant at Fort Silvermoon.
So... are none of you going to go see Horace since he did want to see the party once they got back.
Devarus facepalms, and then nods appreciatively to Catherine. As soon as the air is cleared over whether or not Valwyn would take the pirate armor, Devarus at least stores away his old shield and scimitar, and replaces them with the Shield(+1) and Rapier(+1) at the very least. After which Devarus certainly goes to speak with Horace along with anyone else that wished to, but ask Gendan enroute on an update about the quest, if only to have something to mull over.

Elsara will have a little catch-up chat with Catherine, usual girl talk and the like, until she remembers that Horace is waiting to talk to them. "Oh, right, I should go report to Mr. Sweetcane!"She'll grab her things. "Be back soon, Miss Darkwing!" Elsara then proceeds to skip up the stairs that lead to Horace's office.
DM: Looks like everyone more or less are going to Horace's office room.
You walk into the Guild Master's room and see him with his head in his hands and slumped over his desk. He is clearly bothered about something. As you come in, the Tabaxi looks up and sees the party. He says with a weary smile, "This Affectus Uti is one deep rabbit hole you've stumbled into." He motions to the chairs around his office and says, "Take a seat, I have some more news about it. But first..." He looks a bit more serious and says, "A few days ago, Elias Chronomane had passed away from natural causes. I heard you met him once and worked with his then apprentice Elyza Blackthorn. In his will he left most of his belongings to her except for two things." Horace reaches down and places a book and a crate on the table. The crate is almost as big as the table and looks quite heavy. The fact that the Tabaxi managed to lift it with one hand and place it on the table indicates that he is much stronger physically than he appears at first. Horace continues, "For Elsara, Dr. Chronomane left a copy of the latest edition of the Plague Doctor's Encyclopedia. For Valwarin, the doctor left a crate of his own special Beard Growth Potions." With a confused expression, Horace adds, "I don't know why he would give you a crate full of such potions but if you ever wanted anyone to grow a beard, you can now do that."
Once the items are cleared from his table, Horace takes out a file with various documents in them. He places them on the table and starts to speak again, "About Affectus Uti, my friend at the University has regrettably informed me that the research team has become severely distracted and have moved on to a different field of research that they have deemed more interesting. Now only my friend and a few of his students are still working hard on Affectus Uti.
"You see what happened was that while researching Ravengar's Notes, they gave found some of his own spell scrolls. Along with these spell scrolls, they've found evidence of the existence of spells that are beyond 9th level. As you already know, Spell Levels and Spell Slots are imaginary concepts that ancient spellcasters came up with to measure how much strain a spell puts on a caster's body and mind and how many spells a caster can cast before they need rest. So far, no creature that we've documented is capable of casting spells that would might be considered beyond 9th level. Because of this, such spells were purely hypothetical and thought to be impossible. However, it now seems that Ravengar had figured out some way to cast spells beyond 9th level." Horace pulls out a note and says, "The scroll in question was theorized to house a spell of 13th level and what it does, or rather what it was supposed to do is frankly terrifying." He hands the party the note and says, "The actual scroll is in Maldor being researched but a short translation of the spell summary of what the spell does that Ravengar wrote down on the scroll itself was given to me by my friend.
The note read:
Kain's Royal **** Up.
Range: Self School: Transmutation. Level 13. Casting Time: 12 Hours. Duration: Permanent. Components: V S M Material Components: Terrasque Skull; Ink made from powdered Runite Crystal, Obsidian and Blood from an Archfiend or a very powerful fiend from the Unmarked Hells; Paste made from the eyes of 4 different types of Beholders, A piece of Juiblex The Faceless Lord and the brain of a Mind Flayer Lich. A potion made from the blood of a Solar, Bones of an Empyrean, eyes of Astral Dreadnought and one tooth from each of the five heads of Tiamat.
Comment: This spell has been scribed on this scroll for preservation purposes. I have no idea why anyone would want to cast this spell. There are far easier and less expensive ways of committing suicide. If for any reason you wish to cast this spell: stop; go home and rethink your life and then throw yourself off the nearest cliff you can find.
What this spell was supposed to do: Make the user one with Aeos allowing them to gain total and permanent control of everything that happens in all planes, making them an all-powerful god.
What it actually does: When Kain cast this spell, instead of becoming a Super-Ultra-God-Dude, his body instead swelled up from not being able to contain the power of Aeos and he exploded in a large ball of raw magic. His soul was erased completely due to this spell. I could have told him this would have happened but I didn't because the guy was a bit too ambitious and proud for his own good.
Horace continues, "Because of this finding, most of the original team have redirected their efforts to researching these types of spells. As for Affectus Uti, my friend has give me this paper." He reaches into the file and pulls out a document and hands it to the party. "The document contains a part from Ravengar's observation notes."
The brain takes signals from the soul and then sends those signals to the body. The awaken spell confers sentience to non-sentient creatures but sentience is tied to the soul? I thought sentient souls were different but that is wrong. Souls are different based on species. Coincidentally all sentient humaoniods appear to have the same type of soul. Curious spells are: Soul Cage and Magic Jar. They transfer the soul but it's hard to track or study. Using Steal Soul instead.
Observations: Souls of different beings are different. No change happens in the souls when Awaken is cast. Change happens in the brain. The Brain can now support sentience. However, this cuts down on lifespan.
What happens when people die? Let's try it with Affectus Uti now.
Finally Horace says, "Lastly, there was one more thing that he told me though I'm not sure if this has anything to do with anything. A name, Mio Misaki, kept coming up in Ravengar's notes. I've pulled strings and searched through the region's history but that names comes up blank every time. Ravengar did not have any wives or children that we know of and the name does not appear anywhere in our records. We have no idea who this person is. That was all the new information that I've got. So..." He says to the party, "Any theories?"
Elsara looks remorseful for the passing of Dr. Chronomane. She had enjoyed her time, albeit brief, with the plague doctors. They taught her a lot about disease treatment, and she recalls talking about updating her copy of the texts she had. "That's... really thoughtful of him..." Elsara says quietly upon being told about the passing on of his book.
When the notes about Affectus Uti are brought up, Elsara's ears twitch. She recalls the notes she had been looking through at the university on Horace's behalf, and supposes that some people would find it boring having to sieve through so many notes, some of which had terrible handwriting!
"Umm, Misaki would be a family name, right?"Elsara says. "I know it sounds a little straight forward, but perhaps narrow searches to areas with such sort of family naming conventions. I know some places have names after professions, like Cooper and Smith. If it's from a regional dialect, perhaps deciphering its root phrase might aid in a starting point."
Horace responds with, "It is a good idea. I will have people searching for the family name "Misaki" but I have no idea if we will be able to come up with anything." He seems to remember something and says, "Oh! I almost forgot. The professor has sent me some rarer spell scrolls that might aid you in your efforts. These spells were not new discoveries but they are hard to find outside of Maldor since these are spells created by Ravengar."
When the caster touches one target that is dying and unconscious but not dead (0 HP) the target recovers HP 1+Spell Casting Mod.
Can be learned by: Wizards
Sword of Ravengar
Range: Self School: Conjuration. Level 2. Casting Time: 1 BA. Duration: 1 Minute Components: V S
This spell summons a mystical imitation of Zack Ravengar's own sword in the caster's free hand. Attacks made with this weapon use the spellcasting ability of the caster. It does 1d8 Force damage. Attacks with this sword can be made with both the attack action and the bonus action.
For every level higher than 2nd level used to cast this spell, the sword does an additional 1d8 damage. At 4th level and higher, the caster may choose one damage type and have the sword do that damage instead of force.
Can be learned by: Bards, Clerics, Paladins, Rangers, Sorcerers, Warlocks, Bladesingers, War Mages, Eldritch Knights
He turns to Runt and says, "About your weapon. It will take more time. More than 200 days or so. However, the blacksmith has assured me that it will be one of the best weapons we have ever created."
Elsara could not gleam any more useful information from the name.
Elsara will stare at the scrolls. "These are... lost spells?"She says with a surprised anticipation. "Umm, if you wouldn't mind, Mr. Sweetcane, would I be able to transcribe these to make copies of them for later use?"
Horace answers, "Not exactly lost. You see, the University of Maldor was founded by Zack Ravengar. You would think that we would have more information on the founder of our largest university but it seems that it is not the case. Not many copies of these spells have been made as not many people know of their existance. They are not lost as you may find scrolls containing them if you look in the right places but they are very rare."
(Oh Shoot! I just realized we could've picked up that playwright guy on our way back earlier. Frack!)
(Then again... where is Dyrnia in relationship to Sydil? As in, would we have been able to pick up from Milstrom before cutting through Vitmore Valley, and still have stopped by Sydil out of curiosity?)
(For the below, I wasn't 100% sure if Gendan shared the details on the board info. So, I'm only taking light liberties on info)
Devarus is all wide-eyed over Horace's feat of strength for a while there. Thankfully, he focuses up fairly quickly and can be seen rubbing his chin in deep thought over all that's been presented the group. "Hopefully their diverging won't set us back." He said off-handily as he began coming to once more. "We will endeavor to keep an eye out as well on are travels, sir. But do keep us posted."He furrows his brow. "Also... This will sound odd, but for the sakee Ms. Darkwing would another guild member be able to offer an incentive for othre groups to take care of certain jobs? There was this escort of a playwright job a while back. Not sure if its still available. But if it is, and from what little I can recall, I cannot imagine the current details are very inticing as-is. And she has done so well to take care of us, that... I would like to pay her back in this small way at least, if possible."
