As the party positions itself the fight continues. Relic's axe misses, clanging against the undead bird's skeleton without effect. The bird attempts to retaliate to no avail.

Gaius waits and watches.

Raker moves forward 5 feet and pulls his bowstring tight.  He lets loose an arrow but can tell right away his aim is not true.  He backs up 5 feet again and crouches down, hugging the wall and pulling his cloak down, he attempts to hide in the shadows before his next attack.  

Shortbow : 8 to hit (miss)

Movement : 5 feet forward, then 5 feet back.  

Bonus action : hide, Stealth 17 

Relic is going to take another swing at the dead chicken...

Attack: 8

Damage: 9 (+ 6 on a critical hit)

He also casts booming blade, dealing an extra 2 Thunder damage if the chicken moves.

Gaius watches as the plucky clucker stymies both Relic and Raker.
As he searches the body of the fallen kobold leader he says “Would you guys quit playing with that thing and destroy it?”

Investigation = 13

Though Raker's arrow misses he's able to skillfully hide for his next attack.

A skeletal shriek emerges from the undead bird as Relic's axe cleaves into it. After taking the blow it bites back, piercing it beak through Relic's armor.

Though the bite doesn't seem much at first Relic is soon able to feel something else from the bite as some of him begins to turn to stone. (restrained with another Con Save at the end of next turn to avoid being petrified.)

As Gaius begins looking through longsword kobold's things he's able to notice the expected. A longsword. Chain mail. But also a pouch at the kobold's side and some papers tucked into the shirt.

Gaius is busily gathering up the unusual items found on the dead kobold leader.  The shriek of the chicken grabs his attention and he looks to see what has transpired.

Perception roll = 9

If Gaius sees the changes occurring to Relic, then:  Seeing the chicken has somehow harmed Relic, he becomes more serious about the threat at hand.  He casts Witch Bolt at the chicken.  It is time to destroy this thing.  (To Hit = 22, Damage = 5).  He then concentrates to maintain the spell and the lightning arc to the chicken.

If he does not see the changes occurring to Relic, then:  Gaius completes his search of the kobold and examines more closely the pouch and papers and anything else he has found.

The lightning arcs out and strikes the undead bird. It's a hit! The electric cackling seems to loose the bones a little more.

Raker raises up with an arrow in his short bow, aims it at the undead bird and fires.  “Go.. down!” he says out loud as the arrow flies toward the target.  He listens to the far end of the hall for any sound of movement.

Short bow : 19 to hit, for 5 points of piercing damage and 7 points of sneak attack damage.  

Raker's arrow strikes through it and sends ribs crashing to the ground. It balks at the attack and rears its head with a skeletal screech before Relic's axe comes crashing down and reduces it to no more than a pile of dust. Standing above the now-still bones he can feel the effect of bite waning as his skin returns to normal.

In the distance the grinding of stone can be heard once more reverberating through the tunnels.

At this point, we can go out of initiative order. But if there's some things you'd like to try while staying in initiative order let me know.]

Gaius shows the pouch and papers to Relic and Raker.  He offers the pouch to Raker to examine and then goes over the papers to see if they have writings or drawings on them.

Investigation = 6

With a 6, as Gaius begins looking through the papers he's able to get a sense that they're possibly communications. However he isn't quite able to get much information from them on account of it appearing to be a form of code. Although it does look like there's been some back-and-forth communication.

“These appear to be some kind of back and forth writings,” Gaius reports.  “But, it is some kind of code I cannot sort out.  I can read Draconic.  This isn’t that.”

Raker takes a moment to breathe after the combat ends, but not fully feeling that they are out of hot water yet.  He moves forward and has a look at the writings that Gaius shows him, also looking in the pouch that he found.  “Let me.. see.”  He also relights his hooded lantern.  

Investigation : 16

After examining, he says to Gaius and Relic - “There are more of them I think.  To the east, to the north, and maybe even to the south.  How are you holding up?”  He looks down at himself, the spot of damage from the cold that burned his chest.  “I can press on, that got .. tense.. quick, I think they all know we are here now, unfortunately.  I killed one of the robed priests to the north, he may have something of use on him as well.  Which way?”

"I am doing as well as can be expected... given what just happened. It is fortunate that it went after me rather than one of you... but I think that perhaps it would be best for us to try to keep our distance from now on if we can," relic says.

Investigation: 11

“I am okay, just a bit bruised,” Gaius responds to Raker.  “Thank you, Relic, for taking on those warriors and that bird.”  He looks to the north, “I think we should check out that sorceror and then proceed down that hall.”

In the pouch Raker is able to find 7 gold, a deck of cards, a small tinderbox, and a flask with water.

Gaius recasts Mage Hand to hold the Light rock aloft.  He then proceeds to the fallen Sorceror in the north hallway and searched it.
