Kiselina is careful to cover Sildar with his blanket as he drifts off in his fugue rest. He aims to make him as comfortable as possible before he takes up his post. He ponders the comments as he stands his shifts throughout the night.
Sildar is eager to rid the Triboar trail of the goblin threat, but also needs to get to Phandalin to heal…and possibly find out more about this Cragmaw Castle. Both are valid and possible, it just comes to the order.
The problem with going back to Cragmaw in the morning is that, do we even know where we are currently? He’s pretty sure they haven’t crossed the Triboar trail as they fled south. If they head east when they find the trail, they could let fate decide the order. If they come across the ambush site first, they could have another go at the goblins, refreshed and better informed. If however they already passed that point, then they should arrive at the access trail to Phandalin. At which point the group could rearm and reset there, maybe get the info on the Castle.
In the morning after everyone is awake, Kiselina will present his concern and thoughts to the others. He will ask Sildar if he can recall anything else of the layout of the caverns. Lastly, he will inquire if Klarg appeared to controlled one section while Yeenik the other.
Morning comes, and golden sunshine reflects from the oak leaves and against the lean-to built against a low, natural rock wall. But although the weather is sunny, those who pay heed to the signs will notice rain clouds on the western horizon, smell the humidity in the air, and predict that rain is on its way.
Your small company is fully rested (and yes, at full HP, etc., following a long rest), and even Sildar seems much improved from his state the previous day. Yes, his hand is of course still a brutal mess to behold, but his complexion is improved, his eyes hold yours steadily, and, though with a groan as he clutches his bandaged abdomen, he is able to stand and walk by himself.
The problem with going back to Cragmaw in the morning is that, do we even know where we are currently? He’s pretty sure they haven’t crossed the Triboar trail as they fled south....
In the morning... He will ask Sildar if he can recall anything else of the layout of the caverns. Lastly, he will inquire if Klarg appeared to controlled one section while Yeenik the other.
(OOC: Correct, you have not crossed the Triboar Trail, or the High Road. You would guess you are not too far from their intersection, at any rate in the hills north of the Triboar Trail, no more than a mile or two from the Cragmaw Crag.)
"Yes, that is the state of affairs. Yeenik held the western cavern, where I was held captive, and Klarg, the eastern cavern and all of their loot from the Lionshield Coster, a merchant company with a warehouse and trading post in Phandalin. That is the extent of the crag, there is nothing more to see there."
From what Sildar said last night, this Yeenik has about 10 more goblins with him. But it sounds like Yeenik and Klarg are uneasy allies, just as willing to stab each other in the back as to help. M'ybe we could strike a deal with one of the two so that if we eliminate one group, we don't have to deal with the other."
"Klarg controls the goblins through force of might. But Yeenik is clever and feeds the flames of resentment which evil creatures succumb to so easily. It seemed almost as if Yeenik planned to take advantage of the battle with you to gather the goblins around him and destroy Klarg."
He looks to Kiselina, to all of you. "I... I am hopeful that I may hold a blade again with adequate healing, though now..." he trails off. Plainly he cannot fight in his present state.
"But I can keep pace, I have experience to offer. You will know your rearguard is committed."
"Unless stopped, the Cragmaw goblins will continue to raid and plunder the Triboar Trail. They have killed many..."
"not to be insensitive, but it could be important. sildar, you can at least use a shield to defend yourself still right?" vidruth asks, as delicately as he can manage, which isnt very delicate "marten, kiselina. whats the plan"

Berry, thrown between opinions, seems undecided but ultimately the humility from last day's defeat had leaked out of him and he wants to return, "Yeah, you're right. Perhaps best we return now. Perhaps they are still on the wrong foot. Heck, who knows, perhaps they are infighting and we only need to finish off what's left. Also, as Marten and Daphyra say, we can approach different now that we know what to expect."

Nosam is calm but ready for the group decision, he knows the longer they sit here provides no real benefit to anyone but the goblins. "If we head back to the cave, I reckon going sooner rather than later would wisest. Plus we aren't entirely sure of the way to town and we know where the cave is.""
"not to be insensitive, but it could be important. sildar, you can at least use a shield to defend yourself still right?" vidruth asks, as delicately as he can manage, which isnt very delicate "marten, kiselina. whats the plan"
“I ask myself the same question.” Sildar’s eyes fall on one of your shields.
”May I?”
If allowed to borrow it for a minute, he will don the shield, then attempt some parries. He’s not exactly fleet of foot, but he manages, and then nods to the group thoughtfully. It is apparent to all that he can defend himself.

If allowed to borrow it for a minute, he will don the shield, then attempt some parries. He’s not exactly fleet of foot, but he manages, and then nods to the group thoughtfully. It is apparent to all that he can defend himself.
“Your spirit is strong Master Sildar.”
Kiselina will offer him his shield and a javelin. “It’s the only other weapon I have. Carry it; better to be armed and not need it, than need it and not have it. May you have no use for it though before you are ready. But should the opportunity arrive for you to satiate your revenge, you will have the means.”
He turns to the others, “If we are going back in, perhaps a little strategic discussion is in order. Especially if you are asking me what the plan is, Master Vidruth.”
”I should think that Master Nosam with shield in hand should be among the first to close with our adversaries. The only change I would see is if we are going about before full contact, on the quiet so to speak. In that case, I would recommend Masters Marten or Berry take the lead for scouting.”
“Master Sildar, are you comfortable covering our rear? That might allows Master Vidruth and Mistress Daphyra to be safely in the middle, but fairly flexible to address the combat where it arises. Myself, (hefting his halberd in both hands) could be nearer the front to support Master Nosam.”
”Mistress Daphyra, could you remind us of Beset’s blessing of night sight, please? How many are you able to bestow the blessing on?”
After a long pause he adds, “But I am not the only one with ideas on this subject. And I alone can not decide how we each may contribute to the general good. We went in last time less organized, and we paid for it. The time we prepare now will provide us a greater chance for successful completion and may allow us to gather information we require about the Black Spider and the Cragmaw Castle.”
With his thoughts completed, he willingly listens to other’s input.
Daphyra nods at Kiselina. "I am able to share the Goddess Bastet's gift with three others. It tends to last around an hour, but you will be able to see as if in dim light for a long way. I can also help one person act more readily as a fight breaks out. If we decide who is best to act first, I will ask the goddess to bless them with quick action."(Vigilant Blessing)
"My most useful spell during battle is Toll the Dead, for which I just need to be able to see the enemy. Otherwise I am best placed for healing and have prepared a more effective healing spell. It means I need to touch the target, so in the midst of the group is probably best, as you suggest, Kiselina."
vidruth nods "we could also try to ally with this yeenik against klarg, and after the fighting is done, turn on them and cut them down" vidruth suggests coldly "that way we deal with half somewhat easily, and then have at least a little surprise, as long as we turn on them before they turn on us"
he considers what daphyra has said, indeed giving information to the group about your abilities is a good idea, if a somewhat dangerous one. regardless, he refuses to spend his time mistrusting his allies, if it gets him killed then so be it
"as youve seen my most practiced spell is fire bolt, and i can cast it with little effort, so that will be my most common choice in combat, twice a day, three times if i get somme time to rest after casting one, i can cast something with more effect, you have seen the wave of sound, but i can also summon a mist, launch three unerring bolts of solid air, or fire a small object at very high speed"

Sildar shakes his head no when Kiselina offers him a javelin. “It would be of no use.”
Re: Kiselina ““Master Sildar, are you comfortable covering our rear?”
Sildar nods firmly. “With my life.”
“Bahamut’s emblem suits you well, Sildar.” Kiselina comments as the fighter takes up the shield, referring to the god’s visage on the front. Kiselina puts the javelin back with the others. He does a quick count of those that would benefit from Beset’s blessing and says worriedly, “I believe we now have four that can not see in the dark without light, Mistress Daphyra. It appears we will require a torch regardless if we are all to enter the Cragmaw.”
Other than this, he is prepared to set off whenever the others are ready.
Marten looks a little alarmed at being asked to make a plan for the group.
"Yep," Marten agrees. "Gotta think in Steps. Jus' gettin' to the cave entrance unharmed is Step 1. We don' know whether they'll have guards keepin' watch outside the cave like last time. If so, better to stop 'em from gettin' into the cave and warning' the others like last time. Berry and I can try t' sneak all the way up to the cave entrance on either side of the creek to cut 'em off before they can make it to the cave. And if the rest of the group comes up, we'll have 'em from both sides."
Marten adds, "If we're thinkin' of negotiatin', m'ybe we get one o' th' goblins t' surrender and get him to take a message to Yeenik or Klarg."
"If no one is guardin' outside, then Step 1 is done. We're at the cave entrance," and he briefly explains the next "Steps" in his mind:
Getting to the cave entrance
Getting into the main tunnel and securing the kennel chamber.
Possibly talking / negotiating with Yeenik first before starting a fight?
Either using that fissure to climb up to Klarg's chamber or sneaking up the main tunnel to the pool chamber without getting washed out.
Assault on Klarg and his guard.
Marten admits: "The little devils were slippery and smart. If they're hittin' and runnin' away, Daphyra, Vidruth, and me can hit 'em at range, but we'll need Kiselina and Nosam to prevent 'em from gettin' to us. If they're hidin', we either need a way to flush 'em out -- maybe burn a bunch of brush in the kennel chamber's fissure to smoke 'em out. Or...I don' know, didn' you make sounds of drums on the road a couple of days ago. I don' know whether we could lure 'em or drive 'em out with that. If not, we need some way to ruin their advantage. Maybe we use could your mist, Vidruth. We won' be able t' see them, but they won' see us neither. At least that's a level fight."
Marten says, "I'm practiced at stalkin' game, so I'm happy to sneak up ahead and take a look. M'ybe even pick off a lookout. Once we're in the chambers, I'd prefer to pick off those devils from a distance with my bow. As long as no one is getting exposed and hit before we're in position, I can take some time to find the right position and just hit anything that moves. I carry a sword, but I only use that in a pinch. I'm also happy to throw oil or ball bearings or caltrops. Anything to help slow 'em down and keep us from gangin' up on one of us. Once they're in the open, I wanna keep 'em in the open."
„I’m not sure if the water pools will be full again but I would suggest more than anything, I can sneak in and fasten a rope to the bridge to avoid being flushed out once again.”
"Good idea!", Marten says. "If we capture a goblin outside the cave, m'ybe we can ask him about the pools. Otherwise, we'll have to kill the lookout before he sees us, or like you said, tie a rope to the bridge to keep from gettin' washed out."
vidruth nods "we could also try to ally with this yeenik against klarg, and after the fighting is done, turn on them and cut them down" vidruth suggests coldly "that way we deal with half somewhat easily, and then have at least a little surprise, as long as we turn on them before they turn on us"
Marten looks a bit uncomfortable at that suggestion. He shuffles his feet and looks down, saying, "Well, I wouldn' make a promise we don' mean to keep. That just feels like we'd be turnin' into goblins ourselves. But I hear ye, Vidruth, abou' them turnin' on us. That may be, and we'll need to be ready for it."
Nosam makes some chit chat with the group as he ensures all of his belongings are in order. "I'm more than happy to lead the way, just don't shoot me in the back. Ha, them goblins shot me enough, don't need any more of it. And I'm set to go, when we ready to head that way?"
Daphyra also looks a little unsure about the doublecrossing idea and nods at Marten's response.
She also nods at Nosam's suggestion to head out. "Yes, let's get on our way. Before we arrive, would it be best to give Marten the goddess's blessing for vigilance? Or Berry? And who will miss out on the goddess's other gift of seeing in the darkness? I will seek Bastet's blessing just before we enter the cave."
"Perhaps, Sildar can wait at the entrance of the cave and warn us in case more goblins arrive. He can try to hide there so that he's not immediately seen but give us a shoutout when he sees anyone going in or out. This way there is a chance that he doesn't need to fight, because, " he pauses to glance at Sildar's hand, "I'm not sure if it is wise to fight before someone can address this wound. I'd say, the one that needs to go in first should be the one blessed for a quick reaction. Perhaps, Nosam, Kiselina or me. Once one of us made contact, Marten can look out for opportunities to strike at the engaged foe." Berry finished packing his stuff back into his pack, "I'm ready when you are."

vidruth considers something "perhaps whoever recieves the blessing for quick reaction should be someone who already reacts quickly? that way we ensure they are fast enough to deal with problems as they arise" other than this, he sees no problem with the plans, and indeed is somewhat eager to act, even if it is dangerous

"Perhaps, Sildar can wait at the entrance of the cave and warn us in case more goblins arrive.
"Yep. Let's try to keep Sildar well out of the fightin'," Marten agrees. "He could watch the cave entrance, either from the clearing or maybe in that kennel chamber, to make sure that we don't get surprised from that direction. It should be safe to light some torches in the kennel chamber. If it gets hot, Sildar should sound the warning and either run back to this lean-to, if he can, or come join us in the cave, if he can't."
Marten glances at Sildar, a bit embarrassed. "It's not that I doubt your bravery Master Hallwinter, but leave the fightin' to us. You've already proved your mettle by survivin' captivity! I'd feel awful terr'ble if we lost y' now."
I'd say, the one that needs to go in first should be the one blessed for a quick reaction. Perhaps, Nosam, Kiselina or me. Once one of us made contact, Marten can look out for opportunities to strike at the engaged foe."
"Agreed," Marten says. "If I sneak up on 'em, I should be able to make my first shot unseen. I won' need to be too fast, just reeeally quiet."
"But maybe you should take the blessin' of vig'lance, Mistress? Or Vidruth? If y're tryin' to cast a spell that affects the whole room, it's probably best to do that before Kiselina, Nosam, and Berry are all mixed in with the enemies."

"Good idea!", Marten says. "If we capture a goblin outside the cave, m'ybe we can ask him about the pools. Otherwise, we'll have to kill the lookout before he sees us, or like you said, tie a rope to the bridge to keep from gettin' washed out."

Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.

vidruth considers something "perhaps whoever recieves the blessing for quick reaction should be someone who already reacts quickly? that way we ensure they are fast enough to deal with problems as they arise" other than this, he sees no problem with the plans, and indeed is somewhat eager to act, even if it is dangerous
This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?
