Daphyra thanks Sister Garaele for the information and heads to the inn.
She walks in, sniffing the air appreciatively as she smells the leftovers.
As she approaches the rest of the group, she begins by reassuring them about Sildar. "The good Sister Garaele has healed our new friend of one of his hurts - there was a... a spirit of some kind attaching itself to him, and it has now been removed. He is sleeping it off peacefully."
She sits down if there is an empty seat. "These Redbrands... Garaele gave me some background. Seems like they have been pretty coordinated in the way they are taking over the area, frightening the people with veiled and not so veiled threats about their families and children. She thinks there must be a strong leader to keep them banded together. She pointed out The Sleeping Giant as their headquarters and Tresendar Manor as their barracks. We should stop them."
She glances around at the group. "Once we are all suitably rested and prepared, of course."
She looks expectantly around the table, her ears pricked up. "So, did I miss anything here?"
Marten is glad that Nosam is able to join them for some dinner. He is truly happy to see Daphyra return to the inn and finally lets himself relax now that the group is together and safe again. Marten enjoys the outdoors, but after their recent battles and life-threatening injuries, he's finally starting to appreciate being a familiar inn with good food and four walls around them.
Marten still thinks that they have time to get the stolen goods from the Cragmaw Cave tomorrow, if they can get a wagon and team, but that'll probably take most of the day to go there and back. But he admits that it might mean too much delay, "what with Gundren still at the Cragmaw's castle and these Redbrands causin' trouble in town." He still thinks that they need more information before they try to storm a "castle," but he's unsure of the best place to start. You have a feeling that part of the reason he's fixated on getting the stolen goods from the caves is simply that it's a specific, concrete job that he can do.
Marten listens to Daphyra's news about the Redbrands with interest and begins to wonder how many of these thugs there are in town. He remarks, "Bullies avoid real work by pushin' around good folk who prob'ly won' fight back. Stoppin' 'em seems a little far afield from rescuing Gundren, but we may have t' face 'em eventually. Thugs like that are always on the lookout for someone who could stand up to 'em." As he says that, he looks significantly around at his battle-proven companions, "I don' think they'll take kindly to folks like us stayin' long in Phandalin."
Startled, Nosam realizes he not only is starting, but was having a dream of sorts. He sort of mumbles to himself as he splashes some water on his face and heads downstairs, "having a stiff drink helps keep 'em away." He sees the others and gives a hearty greeting, "what we having tonight boys and ya save me anything?" Nosam gathers a hefty bowl of the house special and gets some of his liveliness back, "we decide on tomorrow's plans yet? You all seem to have good intentions and have yet to steer me into too much trouble... hah, yet." He finishes his bowl and wipes away what wound up in his beard. The last part he adds is on a more serious note and without a mouthful of food. "You'll have my support for whatever we decide but my initial hunch is for the castle."
vidruth returns down the stairs, finding the small group at the table where he left them, and daphyra is back now too "hello daphyra" he catches just the last bit of the conversation. "im about the same, ill go wherever as long as we are suitably careful, although i would like to warn you all not to waste our lives foolishly" he drinks some water, setting the cub back carefully with a sigh.

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

Kiselina watched the room as he ate his meal. He noticed some interesting patrons he planned to engage with after he finished eating. When he had his fill, he looked up to survey the room again and discovered the crowd was thinning out, including the female miner. He planned on grabbing the bottle of wine and an extra cup to take with him in the hopes of engaging the pleasantly dressed woman only to find the bottle empty. As he tried to flag down Elsa for another bottle though, the unnamed woman with the bun departed the inn, headed for her ultimate destination. As the knight tried to adjust to the changing clientele, he would be thwarted for the third time with the farmer as he too had slipped out not the dark night. Resigned, the Paladin focuses on the groups talk of activities.

“And I agree with Marten’s assessment that even if we avoid them, they may not avoid us. Particularly since we just brought the goblins they are using to frighten the townsfolk into their world. It’s one thing to speak of the horrors when no one can see how scary they are. But our actions may give rise to the notion that the Redbrands aren’t as capable as they claim. It could cause them to reassert their control on the population…and at our expense.”
The Dragonborn contemplates the situation. He then adds, “My desire would be to see to the recovery of the goods and the return of Gundren. However, we have no way to accomplish either at the moment. We know nothing of the Cragmaw Castle and have no guarantee that Barthen will lend his assistance in the goods’ recovery. Likewise though, we know very little of the Redbrands. If they are a legitimately appointed or sanctioned authority, then confronting them could make us criminals.”
He catches just the last bit of the conversation. "I’m about the same, I’ll go wherever as long as we are suitably careful, although I would like to warn you all not to waste our lives foolishly." He drinks some water, setting the cub back carefully with a sigh.
After considering all that is said, Kiselina suggests the following, “We need more information on both courses (Cragmaw Castle and the Redbrands). Mid-morning I have to see the Townmaster, Harbin. I believe Vidruth has offered to go with me. It could be an opportunity to inquire about how the Redbrands relate to the towns security and how he, as an official, view the Redbrands. Either before or after, we could go to Barthen’s and see about his willingness to assist in the return of the goods from the cave. Or what other options he could suggest. That might afford us the opportunity to ask a few others around town what is known about the Cragmaw Castle.”
He ends his long winded interjection by saying, “I am willing to concede on any point though. We all have that which we feel strongly about.”
Berry had taken Trilena's place, after he had his fill and when she left with her son, and played relatively slow, relaxing tunes with his flute. It wasn't really for any other reason than that he felt pensive himself and as usual lets his mood conduct his music. With Vidruth and Nosam back with the group, he finally retires the flute and joins the others and listens to their say. Then he speaks, "As much as I would like to help Gundren, it is one thing to free him from the claws of a goblin tribe that lives in a cave and quite another to infiltrate or outright attack a castle. Not to mention, the name of the Black Spider alone sends shivers down my spine. I can't for the life of me imagine how Gundren got himself in such a dire situation but I think this is far beyond of what is expected of us, given that we were hired to defend a shipment. Which, in fact, we did successfully. Now, I don't say that I don't want to rescue him but I believe there is more to it than what we know and again, I really don't feel that we can do much against a castle. I mean you do remember the fiasco of the cave? That was really close, we got barely away," Berry points out. "I do agree with Marten in that securing the stolen goods could be an easy, straightforward task but I worry about the presence of these Redbrands. They might try to take it from us when, or even before, we arrive. But then if we confront them now, the goods might be taken away before we arrive. So I also think that we should get the goods first and then confront these ruffians unless they already seek us out before we get to them. So, tomorrow, if Kiselina and Vidruth have tea with the governor, the rest of us could see if Barthen can help us to prepare a carriage for the transport of the stolen goods. Some of it was probably on its way to him before the goblins got their hands on it."
The flames in the hearth begin to burn low, and the companions make their way to their rooms and rest. Daphyra returns to Sister Garaele's home. Does she see a man wearing a red cloak standing at the edge of the green out of the corner of her eye, or is it her imagination. Either way, she returns to the Sister's home and, like the others at the Inn, enjoys a bath if she wishes, and a good night's sleep.
Morning comes following a long rest. What will you each do the following morning?
(OOC: We do not need to RP every moment, but let us go one scene at a time. What, if anything, do you do the following morning before leaving for your first activity of the day?)
Daphyra is disappointed that the crew does not immediately see the importance of routing the Redbrands quickly, but she agrees that more information would be beneficial. After all, this is now Daphyra's home and she understands that the others might not see it in the same way she does.
As she prepares for the day she checks on Sildar. If he is awake, she proffers the idea of heading to the inn to break their fast and meet up with the rest of the crew. If he is not immediately awake, Daphyra potters around checking on the shrine next door, making her morning prayers, putting a kettle on the hearth for tea.
Kiselina soaks in the hot bath far longer than he should. His last baths came from being washed out the cave…twice, but those were cold and the warm water soothed his chill from travel. After a restful night sleep, he rises and in the morning dresses. He goes to the common room and has a hardy breakfast. If Elsa is there the Dragonborn will engage with her about what she enjoys working at the inn. He will also inquire of her (or either of the Stonehills) about a smith or armorer in Phandalin (for the bracers).
Nosam retires to his room after a pleasant meal and hopes they come to a consensus in the morning for their next move. He knows one thing is certain, staying here another day or so is not the best option. He gathers his belongings and preps the bed before a nice soak. Before he dozes off he ensures everything is ready for a smooth exit in the morning.
(OOC: Each of you, in your speaking with the Stonehills or Elsa, is able to learn about places of interest in Phandalin. Here is a map of the town:
To learn more about any of the named places, you’ll need to specifically inquire during your coming RP scene, or visit them yourselves.
Each of you can decide on a specific place you’d like to visit the following morning, and we can RP that individually. Or if you want to go together with someone else, that’s fine too. So, where to?)
vidruth wakens early, but doesnt head down the stairs for nearly half an hour. first going over his spellbook and reaffirming his knowledge of the spells, then checking his gear. and then spending an entire ten minutes painstakingly casting a spell using only the ambient movement of the weave, when he finally does walk down his eyes look a little funny, and he seems slightly distracted
(ooc: casting detect magic as a ritual, also i assume we got a long rest there?)
he waits in their usual spot, greeting the first group member to arrive with a simple "g'mornin"

After a good night's sleep, Berry returns to the main room of the tavern for breakfast. He still doesn't like it too much that the roof covers the sky but he begins to warm to the other luxuries that are offered in the package. No one had ever cooked food for him back at home, and here they don't tire to present him with more than he can deal with. And all for just a few of these coins that they give you for doing stuff. He ponders this on his way down the stairs but forgets all about it, once the pleasant smell of freshly baked bread and brewed coffee enters his nostrils.
"Good Morning," he greets his companions before helping himself to the breakfast. "I've been thinking, I could go to Barthen's and check with him if he wants to help to recover the goods from the goblin lair. What do you think?" Berry asks into the round."Depending on his answer we can plan further. Perhaps, he needs a day to prepare, or wants to rush there, or not go at all. Anyone cares to join?"
Marten takes a brief bath, mostly to wash the smell of blood and goblin off of him, and then goes to sleep, probably sharing a room with one of the others. He wakes almost as soon as the sun is up, still feeling sore from the previous days' battles. He repacks his gear but leaves most of it in his room during breakfast (as noted before) since he knows that Toblen doesn't allow swords and other weapons in the common room.
When Marten goes down to breakfast, a memory returns to him. Something Pip said. Marten had just been chastened by Mrs. Stonehill, but now that Marten doesn't have her imposing glare on him, he remembers hearing Pip say something about a secret tunnel. If Toblen is around when Marten is having breakfast, he asks the innkeeper whether Pip has chores to do in the mornings. He says that he wants to ask the boy about something Pip said the previous night. "I reckon that my friends and I got more to do 'round these parts. Young 'n's sometimes see 'n' hear things that grown-ups miss. It migh' be nothin', but I hope it's a useful clue for us." Marten is happy to have Pip's mother or father there this time. He just wants to ask the boy, as casually as he can, to tell his story of the secret tunnel.
When Pip is not around, Marten asks the Stonehills for directions to the shop of Thel Dendrar, the murdered woodcarver.
Marten says, "I'm o' th' same mind, Berry." Since they cannot leave Phandalin until after Kiselina's tea with the town master anyway, he thought that they could spend the morning in town, learning what they can. Marten thought that they could check with Barthen:
Did any shipments fail to reach Barthen's in the last few weeks?
If not, were there other merchants or stores in Phandalin that regularly received shipments of goods?
Does Barthen still have that wagon and the oxen that they arrived on with Gundren's goods a few days ago?
If so, how much would it cost for them to hire it for 1 day?
Marten would still like to stick together with the group as much as possible. The townspeople who surrounded Kiselina last night and the stories of the Redcloaks have made Marten suspicious of anyone whom they don't already know in Phandalin. He'll go with Berry (and any of the others who want to come) to Barthen's. If the others plan to run other errands, Marten suggests that they at least go in pairs or stay within shouting distance of each other. He feels that they'll be safer if they're all together...or at least not wandering too far on their own.
So, if there's time before the tea with the Townmaster, Marten would like to
Hear Pip's story about the "secret tunnel"
Visit Barthen's Provisions
Visit any other merchant who may have lost a shipment recently
Kiselina finishes his meal and enjoys the conversation with Elsa and the Stonehills. He goes to retrieve the bracers from his room. “I’m heading over to see the Smith” he tells the others present. If it goes long I’ll meet you at the town master’s office for tea. Else I’ll meet you at Barthen’s. Any are welcomed to join me.”
Daphyra eats breakfast with the group. She is quiet, mulling over the information they have found, and listening to hear what the others' plans are for the day. She decides to accompany Kiselina to the smithy and find out what she can.
Before leaving, she asks Elsa and Stonehills about The Sleeping Giant. "Is it another inn? It must be difficult to have two so close together... or do they cater to a different clientele?"
vidruth follows kiselina, perhaps the smith will sell him a dagger, besides, makes it easier to show up to the town masters office, which he doesnt know where it is, in time for tea, which he doesnt know when it is.

As she prepares for the day she checks on Sildar...
Daphyra finds that Sildar is not awake. Sister Garaele tells her that he will need bedrest, perhaps a week, before he is well enough to leave. But she is confident that his good health will return.
Daphyra… asks Elsa and Stonehills about The Sleeping Giant. "Is it another inn? It must be difficult to have two so close together... or do they cater to a different clientele?"
Toblin answers. “Grista’s place? Ermmm, Milady, that’s no place you’d be interested in. It’s not an inn, but a speakeasy. Grista’s a dwarf, her family were all… well, it happened a long time ago, but they fell to goblins, you see. And when the Redbrands came around, talking about goblins comin here… she was the first to throw in with ‘em. Her place, the Sleeping Giant, it ain’t nothin more than a rundown tap house. A dirty, dangerous watering hole at the end of main street. She makes them Redbrands comfortable. But I don’t think you’d find it so, Milady...”
Daphyra… decides to accompany Kiselina to the smithy and find out what she can.
Kiselina… will engage with [Elsa] about what she enjoys working at the inn. He will also inquire of her (or either of the Stonehills) about a smith or armorer in Phandalin (for the bracers).
“Wot?,” Elsa answers, a bright smile showing perfect white teeth, “Well, Sir Kiselina, what’s there not to enjoy? I love to talk, and speak with people, and meet people from different places… especially since I’ve only ever been out of Phandalin once since I came here, and that to Neverwinter, which was so beautiful with the streets lined with flowers all year. But you already know all about Neverwinter, I think Mr. Stonehill said he thought you’d come down from Neverwinter?” “Oh, a smith? Didn’t you see Mister Al Faina when you came into town? His smith and house are up main street just across from Mister Barthen’s Provisions. He’ll probably already be busy if you need horseshoes or a new axle, or a gate.” She looks at Kiselina for a moment then bursts out laughing. “A gate! Why would you need one of those, a traveler like yourself! Sometimes I make myself laugh!”
Vidruth: vidruth follows kiselina…
KISELINA, VIDRUTH & DAPHYRA
As you approach the building opposite Barthen’s Provisions, you see a leather apron-wearing heavy set man with powerful hands, an olive complexion, and dark curling mustachios prepping black iron tools and giving instructions to a teenager busily stoking a fire under the forge. Mister Al Faina, you presume. Located at the entrance to the town, he may not look up at everyone passing one way or the other. He seems intent on his work, indeed. As Daphyra, Vidruth, and Kiselina approach, they notice that the smith seems to be laying out molds for horseshoes. Al Faina glances up as you approach, and offers you only a single word in a surprising high, hoarse voice. “Morning.”
Daphyra thanks Sister Garaele for the information and heads to the inn.

(OOC: yes for long rest.
Vidruth does not detect anything magical in the inn.)

What do you think?" Berry asks into the round. "Depending on his answer we can plan further.

Marten says, "I'm o' th' same mind, Berry." Since they cannot leave Phandalin until after Kiselina's tea with the town master anyway, he thought that they could spend the morning in town, learning what they can. Marten thought that they could check with Barthen:
Marten would still like to stick together with the group as much as possible. The townspeople who surrounded Kiselina last night and the stories of the Redcloaks have made Marten suspicious of anyone whom they don't already know in Phandalin. He'll go with Berry (and any of the others who want to come) to Barthen's. If the others plan to run other errands, Marten suggests that they at least go in pairs or stay within shouting distance of each other. He feels that they'll be safer if they're all together...or at least not wandering too far on their own.
So, if there's time before the tea with the Townmaster, Marten would like to
Kiselina finishes his meal and enjoys the conversation with Elsa and the Stonehills.

DAPHYRA
Daphyra finds that Sildar is not awake. Sister Garaele tells her that he will need bedrest, perhaps a week, before he is well enough to leave. But she is confident that his good health will return.

KISELINA
“Wot?,” Elsa answers, a bright smile showing perfect white teeth, “Well, Sir Kiselina, what’s there not to enjoy? I love to talk, and speak with people, and meet people from different places… especially since I’ve only ever been out of Phandalin once since I came here, and that to Neverwinter, which was so beautiful with the streets lined with flowers all year. But you already know all about Neverwinter, I think Mr. Stonehill said he thought you’d come down from Neverwinter?”
“Oh, a smith? Didn’t you see Mister Al Faina when you came into town? His smith and house are up main street just across from Mister Barthen’s Provisions. He’ll probably already be busy if you need horseshoes or a new axle, or a gate.” She looks at Kiselina for a moment then bursts out laughing. “A gate! Why would you need one of those, a traveler like yourself! Sometimes I make myself laugh!”
“Morning.”
