Inge's attack of opportunity (with Rage): Glaive to hit: 13 (grrrr... with the endless low rolls) Glaive damage: 7 slashing (minimum again... if she even hit)
She screams wordlessly at the amalgamation as she witnesses her friends fall one after the other.
{{I can say that the druid's ritual will also affect the healer's kit and the healer's feat. So, if you spend one use of the healer's kit, you get to heal the target 10 hitpoints. I'm still a bit confused about the "plus additional hit points equal to the creature's max number of hit dice", but I assume that would be 1 because you only have 1 hit die as a level 1. So, you get the heal 11 if you spend one use of the kit.}}
Round #8
Brix arrives at Myrla's side and attempts to wake her up. There is something within him that sparks and uncoils as he touches Myrla. A surge of something transfers from him and into Myrla. His body almost wills Myrla's own body to work despite her injuries and it reminds him of the rare times that he wills a concoction to brew faster and it really does brew quicker than usual. The same surge of willpower seeps into Myrla and tells her body to work and stay alive despite her many injuries. And for a moment, a brief moment, it works. Myrla's chest rises up and she gasps a short raspy breath before she stutters still again. She may have to be removed from the creature first before the same "magic" can be effective.
{{Brix's action resolved. It prevents Myrla from having to roll her death save this round, but if she isn't removed from being attached to the creature, she will have to make the death save again next round. You can use an action to remove her body with a strength check (let's say DC 12). Inge's attack hits. AC is 12 just for reference. Still waiting on Wadi's AoO, if any. And, Inge and Wadi, take your turn for this round. I will say that the creature only has a quarter of its health left. Getting there.}}
Almost, almost, Inge considers stowing her Glaive to pull Myrla's body from the horror's appendage as she sees Brix trying to stanch the mortal wound. Yet her instinct makes her doubtful that any of her companions, including herself, will survive if she and Wadi do not finish their foe.
Holding tight to her simmering Rage, Inge charges after the amalgamation, getting right in its face. She shouts and continues to swing her Glaive.
Action: Inge attacks SC with Glaive: Glaive to hit SC: 21 Glaive damage, including Rage bonus: 10 slashing
Bonus Action: Inge attacks SC with her Polearm Master bonus attack with the back-end of the Glaive: Glaive back-end to hit SC: 14 Glaive back-end damage, including Rage bonus: 7 bludgeoning (min!)
Movement: Inge charges up to within 5' of the amalgam, trying to get its attention.
Inge attacks the creature with new fervour. There is a sense of urgency in her strikes, that she has to finish this quickly before she loses her friends. With Wadi's help, she manages to cut off some of the flailing limbs. As more limbs break or fall off, it becomes a little bit easier to damage the creature.
{{Not dead, but close. Not quite single digit hp yet, but almost.}}
Wadi, seeing the creature almost dead says "Inge, hang in there. I know your tired, but we've got to finish this; NOW!" And with that, he strikes down on the creature with his staff (16 to hit with 9 damage) and then spinning it around ONE MORE TIME, he brings the end down onto it with all his might (18 to hit with 5 more damage).
With the limbs of the creature starting to come off, it makes it easier for Wadi to target the central sphere. A crack resounds from the creature when the first strike hits. The creature backtracks in an attempt to flee, but Wadi attacks another time. Just as the staff hits the creature a second time, there is a sharp crack as if a glass has shattered. In the blink of an eye, the creature disintegrates into fine bone dust. From the creature's very centre, a cracked and shattered black gemstone falls to the ground. Swathes of the ghoulish creature also suddenly drop to the ground and disintegrate.
While the battle on this front is quite finished, there are still struggles at the back and the front line. The vanguards are still shoring up defences against the tides of the ghoulish creatures, but they are holding strong. At the backline, some of the wizards and sorcerers manage to fill in the broken magical barrier, earning the encampment a reprieve from the scalding heat. The battle is beginning to wind down.
"Healer squad, six over here!" The voice of General Lunafreya shouts. Turning around, visible to all, is a tired-looking General Lunafreya hovering about an inch off the ground in a lotus position. A greenish shine surrounds her as spectral branches latch out to four of the druids around her. Unfortunately, the other four seem to have perished when the hot burst of air broke through the barrier on the lower part of the encampment. "Bring both of them near me," she says, gesturing toward Milo and Myrla. "This will keep them alive until the healers can treat them."
"You did magnificently," the general adds. "I hadn't expected they could do such a thing, creating such a creature from the fallen. Inspired, but this means they are upping their ante. We will not be able to just sit still and patrol the border. We have to start playing offence. Not bad for your first hour on the job, guys. You can take a rest now. The battle is winding down."
Breathing hard and pulse still racing, covered herself in gore and burns, Inge stows her glaive scoops up Milo and Myrla, both much lighter than the towering barbarian, in a double fireman's carry. She lays them as gently as she can (which is not all that gently) next to the floating Lunafreya.
"Without these two, the hits they got in and took, Dawnchaser, Brixie and I are worm food. Take good care of themLunaf... ah,General."
(Inge barely catches herself before she addresses General Lunafreya as 'Luna-foofoo' to her face).
Brix stares down at his hands, Not quite sure how or what just happened. With no time to dwell on it he regroups with the others to find out what's next.
Myrla's eyes flutter open moments after Wadi's treatment. While his healing dresses the wounds, the general's magic accelerate Myrla's body's regenerative abilities manifold and when she finally fully wakes, she is completely healed. "Thank you... Why, thank you, Wadi," she stammers. She slowly catches up with past events and stares down at her torso where the creature's spike had penetrated her abdomen. She finds only her armour torn with her belly beneath exposed but in exquisite shape and unharmed. "So it wasn't just a dream. The attack is over? But why am I back? How long have I been out?" Expecting to have been unconscious for weeks to recover from such a wound, she looks around wide-eyed and incredulous. "Can't be more than a few hours judging by the state of things here. How is this possible?"

"I believe we've been exposed to a force beyond the physical. I felt this force flow through me as I granted assistance. I'll have to study much, much more but for now I'll just accept that you are here and we are safe. But what do we do now?
Brix flops down dejectedly. He tugs at whatever roots and grasses are within reach. Placing samples in the various vials on his bandolier.
There is a noticeable curious glint when Inge says Wadi's name, but the general remains quiet, nodding and humming appreciatively.
"I suppose this is your first time experiencing magic or casting magic of your own?" General Lunafreya wonders. "Yes, it can feel strange for the first time. It is also not uncommon for people to cast their first spell late in their life. But, you will need to train. We will need to hone your budding spellcasting ability so you can help us better."
A white-robed figure glides toward the group and the general, swooping into a brisk walk as they nears. The figure is androgynous with silver-blonde hair that drapes down to their back, tucked between their seemingly glittering white wings. Their eyes are molten white that would glow brightly in the dark. There is a sense of urgency in their stride and a worried twist on their face.
"Something has happened, general," the figure says grimly. "It's the captain. One of the skeletal creatures that sprouted from the dead ghouls took him. We tried chasing it, but its armour thickened with every ghoul we killed on the battlefield. This appears to be deliberate. The creatures are focusing on the captain most of the time."
The general grits her teeth and lets out a guttural scream. For a brief moment, the spectral green branches coming out of her darkens into an oily black before returning back to green. She takes a deep breath and turns toward Brix, Myrla, Inge, Milo, and Wadi. "I guess we know what you will do next, then. I need a team to scout behind the enemy lines and report if not rescue Kashran. I'm sorry, but I'm entrusting this task to the five of you."
"But general--" the winged figure protests, but the general quickly cut them off.
"I will tutor you in our martial combat and your first magical lesson," the general states. There is a sense of certainty in her words that will make it hard to refuse her. No matter what will be said against such a plan, the general will make it happen anyway. "One week and then I will send you to find Kashran. This will not be an easy mission, especially because you're still green and shiny. You may not return alive. But the break in the barrier and the ritual took out the druids who were capable of doing this kind of thing. The others are required if another attack of this scale, with strange new creatures coming out, is to happen again. You will have to do it. What say you?"
Inge cannot prevent herself from staring at the glowing, winged figure. "Wait, is that a..."
She finds herself unable to recall the name which whimsical tales she had heard as a child had given such glowing, winged celestial figures and trails off.
"I'll go." Inge touches her glaive for luck as she listens to the general. "Find Captain Kash and bring him back, yeah? But here's the thing..." She pauses to scratch furiously at a shoulder-itch, trying to think of how to say the next bit. You can almost see steam coming out her ears at the effort.
"This magic... didn't know it before and don't know it now, but sure glad some of my friends have it or I'd still be face down over there. But I think you might have the wrong idea about us, General. We were sent, yeah? But not from another place. From another time... I think? The future... when all this is over. And not to be a downer, but I don't think it ends great. Never once seen anyone in our time do what all you druids and mages do, that's for sure."
She pauses, hearing how crazy she sounds and looking around to the others for support. "Prana sent us. From the future. After we had fought... I think it must have been another archon who took over the body of our friend. That one, with red eyes, called me Helstrom and Wadi here Dawnchaser, though for Wadi, I think that might actually be one of his names already for real? Anyway, Prana sent us here... back in time here... to Witness."
Myrla's eyes widened as the glowing, winged figure approached. She had only heard of such beings in very old legends, stories passed down through generations. Seeing one in front of her was almost too much to believe. Her gaze shifted to the general, absorbing every word spoken about magic. The term "druid" resonated deeply, stirring memories of ancient tales her ancestors told, from a time when their home had been a lush forest instead of the desert it was now.
When Inge spoke of her intent to help as much as possible and their time-traveling mission, Myrla nodded in agreement. She watched the general intently, searching for any sign of disbelief or understanding. The truth they presented was far-fetched, but in a world where magic and mythical creatures existed, perhaps not entirely impossible.
