Dav'eed chooses the central passage. The main river bed. The flow of water has carved large steps into the rock beneath your feet. Thankfully shallow the granite thrusts forward for many steps but falls gently. The Odor grows stronger as you make your way deeper into the hill. The feeble scent of freshness from the right hand passage does not penetrate this far, it was sadly left behind.
The sound of crashing water rumbles up the passage to greet your descent. The closer you get, the stronger the stench grows, the louder the cascade of water becomes. Dav'eed looks back, checking on the light. The useful range of a torch does not extend very far before shadows encroach upon its glimmer of hope, yet the glow of its presence travels surprisingly far in the thick darkness. Even here, more than a dash away, the faint remnants of light can be seen coming up from behind. A halo slowly gliding forward with every step they take. The three companions marching, not so quietly through the passage.
The sound of the falling water startles Dav'eed, covering the activity in the large cavern ahead he nearly stumbles around the corner, pulling back into the shadows as the forms in the darkness ahead have gathered here. He can not see the entire expanse, much of the room hidden by the bend in the gravelly wall. Two Troglodytes stand not more than a dozen feet in front of him, their backs turned they face towards a very large male of their kind. He stands upon a boulder, thrust above the waves of a rippling pond. He is facing to the south, his attention rapt upon whatever he is gazing. Several others are half submerged in the shallow pool, thankfully their attention is also to the south.
The halo of light draws inexorably closer, every step casting its illuminance into the dark. Much closer, it will spill, ever so gently from this distance, but also ever so clearly in the impenetrable dark.
Dav'eed whispers back to Zelaerys, "Douse the torch and come as quietly as you can. I found a group of six trogs, but they are entranced by something to the south. I will come back to meet you."
Dav'eed moves quietly back to meet the others, planning to help lead Rothgar and Gonye in the dark.
As they get into position, the rogue asks Zalaerys, "Do you have a magical light spell to help once we get into place? Or do we need to relight the torch? I want to take the first shot and surprise them, maybe picking off the trogs a couple at a time. We'll attack the two close ones, then the next one, and see how many we can knock down before the others notice. Oh, and we have an elixer that helps to cover the stench of these monsters." He hands the green vial over, and makes sure his own face covering is still in place.
Zelaerys helps Dav'eed to navigate the others towards the large cave and says, "I haven't ever had the notion to travel so deep underground, and... um... you see I don't need light. But if you think it helps, I could be the one to hold the torch, or we could lay it on the ground?" He fingers the vial in his hands and produces a large handkerchief that he quickly fixed around his neck and pulled it over his mouth, "Are we supposed to ingest this? Or throw it at them?"

Dav'eed shows the halfling how to apply the oil to the cloth, then wrap it around his nose and mouth. He then responds to the torch question. "Once the fighting starts, Rothgar and Gonye will need the light - Gonye can hold the torch and cast spells at the same time. I suppose that after you and I get our initial ranged attacks in, Rothgar can light the torch while Gonye casts a spell at the next trog standing and then pass the torch to Gonye. Sound like a plan?"
Dav'eed readjusts the covering over his mouth and nose, then gets into position to take a shot at the closest troglodyte. (Sneak attack: 18 Damage: 8) He then tries to blend back into the shadows (bonus action: Hide - 8 =(
Zelaerys follows the instructions and covers his nose and mouth, then nods along for the plan. He positions himself next to Dav'eed and readies a Fire Bolt to launch at the nearest trog as soon as Dav'eed lets his arrow fly. (Attack: 9, 16 if with advantage; Fire damage: 9)
Additionally, Zelaerys glances over the extend of the large cave if he sees anything that could be lighted with a well placed fire bolt.

Getting back to the group, bathed in the warm glow of the torch you quickly discuss your plan. Dav'eed then takes the lead as Zalaerys leads the othrwise blind humans along the passage, leaving them a dozen steps back. Torch in hand Rothgar and Gonye ready themselves for action.
Zalaerys begins to creep forward, noting Dav'eed, bow out and ready, an arrow knocked, aimed at the back of the closest trog only 10-15' away. Zalaerys tries to creep forward silently, words of power upon his lips. The sound of his metal shield banging against the wall alerts the two trogs, they begin to turn to regard the noise, an arrow and a bolt of fire lance out first. The projectiles slam into the lead Troglodyte, dropping it where it stood. Killing it before it even understood intruders were near.
The second Trog bellows in a wet gurgling holler alerting the others in the room beyond and begins to charge, no spear or club just vicious claws and wicked sharp teeth baring down on you.

The Troglodyte’s claw found purchase on Zelaerys’ arm, blood staining his metal gauntlet. Zelaerys was surprised to observe how Dav'eed retreated. He didn't expect that tactic. 'Wasn't it us who attacked? Why do we retreat now?' He wonders, though, doesn't speak up. He had a little bit of basic training in fighting foes but next to no experience from any real battle. Finding himself at the front against a horde of Troglodytes unnerves him greatly. He had planned to bless his allies, but being left alone, he unconsciously changes it to a more desperate spell and summons spectral blades that he hopes cut his enemy to shreds. If it does dispose of the trog in front of him, he moves back to where is Dav'eed, with the understanding that they are retreating into the tunnel.

It continues to press, forcing the halfling to backp pedal his steps. Dav'eed has already struck, the Troglodyte doesn't take two more steps before collapsing. As the torch is lit, Rothgar bellows, his weapon held high to crush his foe, but it falls in a heap before him.
The light of the torch steadily grows dimmer, you realize Gonye has had enough, he is running back the way you came. The Trogs pull back, the closest one dives into the water, disappearing beneath its turbulent blackness. The other two take cover behind the rocky outcropping, you can barely make out their locations. The Large Trog (LT) remains defiant standing atop the boulder. He pulls something from a leather thong at his waist, a bundle of leaves and twigs. Throwing it into his large maw he crunches it and swallows.
