You travel to the borderline-monastic cells at the edge of the island where you are staying. When you get there, you easily find Tarak's cell. As soon as you walk in, you know why Runara recommended a botanical gift. Behind the cell is an extensive garden, there are several exotic house plants in the cell, and Tarak is working at a potioneer's stand, a vial simmering on a flame. As you enter, he says, "Hello there, what can I do for you?" almost distractedly, keeping one eye on the potion. Kaylee seems a little bit shy around Tarak, and you think it might be because of his skill with cooking.
"Oh my, your garden is beautiful." with a starry eyed look of wonder on his face. Lothar's curiosity touches a bulb and casts druidcraft to see it's flower. "Marvelous!" as his eyes move to Tarak's tasks on the stand "My name is Lothar, I see your in the middle of brewing a potion, may I lend a hand?"Help
Lothar can discern that the bulb is in fact a flower. Tarak, however, refuses the offer of help, saying, " Thank you! I've spent a lot of time on that garden." Then when you offer help, "Oh, that's all right. I've done this many a time. Seriously, what can I do for you?"
"Everyone at the Dragon's Reach misses you, Elder Runara sent Kaylee and us to see if we could be off help?" Lothar gestures to Kaylee then in Druid Cant "We all are here to help"
Lothar walks around slowly fawning over the botanical specimens, "Only the freshest ingredients! stopping himself from nibbling on a crop of lemongrass. "I wasn't expecting this, (gestures around the cell and gardens) it is art! My companions and i have brought cuttings and flowers to cheer you up, but it is I that has cheered up" Lothar say with a big smile.
Borvnir stands around awkwardly at the doorway, in no mood to engage in conversation or comfort this man (although he never is in the mood to help anyway). The ragged white flower clasped in his palm is now far too ragged and squished to be worth giving at all, especially in comparison to the flowers grown here, so instead, Borvnir spends his time scanning the extensive gardens and cell, eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary, or to see if any of the flowers or the brewing potion are of interest. With such a menagerie of things to examine and catch his interest, and because Borvnir is simply standing still uninterrupted, he feels he can get the best possible read of the room that he can. [Perception: Nat 20 + 3 = 23]
Borvnir notices several things about the room with his careful examination. First, he notices that the expansive garden, while beautiful, is clearly not on par with the average hobbyist gardener. He has spent time as a mercenary and a soldier, and he recognizes a few plants that were kept as prized possessions of Lords and Ladies, why, he was once hired to protect that purple bulbish flower over there, along with five other mercenaries! And a Lord once told him that stealing that little violet flower over there was punishable by death! Another thing he notices is that the plants that he is seeing are plants that are commonly used as ingredients for food and potions. Finally, he sees that the potion being brewed is quite clearly a potion of healing, which are quite rare.
When Lothar and Irtos offer him their gifts, and Lothar mentions that he is missed, Tarak's face spreads into a smile. "Ah, that woman is a mother to all that are here, including me. I thank you for your gifts, and for your work ridding this island of a powerful curse. Say, would you be willing to help me with something? I have regular contact with the myconids of this island, little gardener mushroom-folk. Lately, though, they have shut me out, setting a guardian over their caves. I have no hope of defeating the guardian to speak with them, but if you can defeat the monsters of the shipwreck, I'm sure you will have no problem with it. Would you be willing to help me try to contact them?"
Note: since you might very well be getting one soon, drinking a potion is a bonus action, and you heal all 10 points. It still takes an action to administer a potion, though.
Borvnir restrains a smile when he spots the familiar flora from his days as a guard; whilst he would never outright steal the priceless plants (it would be far too noticeable), he thinks he can very much earn one of them through this upcoming opportunity. As for the healing potion, he feels that it isn't necessary to plunder everything he sees of value, so will leave it be. Besides, healing is of little concern to me now, he thinks smugly.
He finally speaks, saying 'We will gladly topple that guardian you speak of, and rekindle your relationship with the myconids, however as you spoke, I couldn't help but notice that little violet flower amongst your gardens,' he says, pointing a claw at the flower he remembers being most valuable from his past, 'you see, you would likely already know this as a botanist yourself, but the nectar of that plant can be distilled into a wonderful and rare medicine, and it just so happens that...' he sniffs, falsely wavering his voice to sound upset as he thinks for an excuse, '...my younger sister has a terrible disease, and only that medicine can cure her. Please, if we carry out your quest, will you let me have it?' He realises that his lie can very easily be sniffed out if Tarak knows even a little about the capabilities of the plant, and it may be curious to the party to hear of a supposed ill little sister that he had never mentioned before, but he hopes they will let it slide, and give him the benefit of the doubt, believing that he kept it secret out of pride. [Deception: 9]
Irtos isn't fooled, but knows nothing about the plant or why Borvnir would want it, so she says nothing about it. Instead she asked, "Wouldn't the myconids get upset if we kill their guardian? Perhaps the others are skilled enough to defeat a foe without killing it, but I know that I am not."
Tarak grins, "You do not understand. The myconids set the guardian, but they are not friends. The guardian is a spore servant, a corpse reanimated through botanical magic. And as for that flower, Borvnir, I would be happy to give you one, should you complete this quest. However, I feel I must warn you. While this may look similar to the Dragonheart Rose, it is in fact a very different flower. It is actually a Stonegrave Tulip. Were you to give anything made with this flower to your sister, she would be stone within the hour."
Lothar listens and asks more questions about how to identify and the differences between the 2. Rare esoteric botanical knowledge is priceless, and the effects they have are amazing.
"I can't wait to meet the Myconids." He says.
Lothar starts tracing lines on his star map, purring softly. Ritual cast Endure Elements
Borvnir feigns misunderstanding when Tarak informs him of the flower's nature, and puts a scaled palm to his head as he says 'Ah, alas! I thought it might have been a Dragonheart Rose, which is what she needs to cure her ailment! No matter, if you do not have anything that you believe can help her, then I will still gladly take the Stonegrave Tulip in exchange for defeating the spore servant, only if you are willing, since that can help me defeat future enemies in my quest for finding a cure!' [Deception/Persuasion if necessary: 3 (not sure if I need to roll again since he already seemed quite willing, but if so then yeah)]
