Elrik hears both the death chant ahead of him and Thane's call to reason behind him. The dwarf pushes away the momentary temptation to rush headlong into the orc camp with Jarl.
"I leave you to a brave warrior's final rest, Jarl," says Elrik as he reins in his horse.
Taking Diana's advice, Thane leads you to a safe distance from the main road. When morning comes, you find that after sending out scouting parties, the Longhunt orcs have moved quickly, through rocky hills and thickets that worgs can maneuver much more easily than horses. To make matters worse, a fog has rolled in, obscuring the trail.

Your tracking brings you to the Old Fork road, but the main camp of Longhunt orcs seems to have hidden their tracks well, dispersing into small groups and scattering while they migrate between locations. You have spent a tenday following different groups, finding that most of them circle around or double back before heading off in a new direction. However, you have finally found a new lead.
At a crossroads, you have run into a band of peddlers when Thane spots a familiar item.
"There, that pattern. What is that dress you are selling?"he asks.
"Ah, got this from a half-orc in some dangerous territory. Said he'd been trading with a war chief named Neyaki. That's orc speak for--", Jerem begins to explain.
"Scar," Thane interrupts.
"Yep, that's it. Said they had captives. I've seen what a long captivity does. An arrow would be more mercy, if you ask me. It was hard to believe the ones I saw were human," says Jerem.
Thane's gaze hardens, his face devoid of emotion. "They weren't. Not anymore,"he says. He shakes a purse of coins at the peddler. "You get the rest if I find the captives and this Scar." Jerem's eyes are glued to the purse.
Elrik listens to the exchange between Thane and Jerem. Despite the bleakness of this whole affair, the dwarf remains hopeful about the possibility of a rescue.
"A good sign, Thane. We'll find 'em yet. I'm certain of it," says Elrik as he prepares to move out, following Thane's lead.
"It may already be too late for rescue,"Thane explains to Diana, "Prisoners of orcs are treated brutally. Do you think half-orcs exist through consent?"He spits on the ground at the thought.
Jerem provides Fargim with the location of his meeting with the half-orc trader.

As he begins to head out, Elrik looks over the peddlers' wares wondering if their might be a shield for sale. He then remembers that his gold was funneled to the kobolds.

After hearing words of reason from Thane, Diana relaxed.
- "I Would agree with Thane on this, let the Jarl meet his death if he wants it so badly, no reason for us to rush for him".
- "We should move from the main road and hide our tracks".
Fargim doesn't ride off, but is waiting for the group decision. He's gathering quite a few 4-5-pound rocks and staring into the darkness.
OOC: just mentioning - Fargim has 120ft darkvision

"Orcs and fog. A lovely pair," whispers Elrik to himself.
The dwarf, wielding a throwing axe in each hand, strains his ears for any hint of the enemy...
...and narrows his eyes, watching for any suspicious movement in the fog...
...and stands with his back to to the rocks to prevent anything from sneaking up behind him.
