While Fargim is obtaining the directions from Jerem, Hox is able to snag an orcish dagger from the wares on display, which causes Moss and the other kobolds to begin snickering.
Elrik looks over the rest of their wares, but finds they have no shield. The merchandise is mostly shabby clothing and crude carvings and figures, probably picked up by the orcs during raids and then discarded.
While riding past them, all but Volthero notice that underneath their simple clothes, each of the seven peddlers is wearing leather armor, and are all doing a poor job of concealing weapons.
When he's confident he will not be overheard by the peddlers, Elrik says to the other party members, "Anyone else find those lads to be a bit shifty? I wonder if they don't know more than they're letting on."
Hox straps his new found dagger to his chest. "Why bother fight when give things the clan does not need. You get gold for junk. Fair enough. More weird if trades people had no weapons, then kill them and take stuff. If had no weapon, easy prey for green skins. No weapon and still live, then they did something for them." Hox says openly, "Like dark alleys and sewers, why fight when we can trade. If no gold or weapon, blood or favor."
Thane nods in response to Elrik's question. "That was odd, but we gained valuable information. Be on your guard,"he says.
Night falls shortly before you make camp along the side of the trail, the kobolds still camped separately a short distance away. "I can take last watch," Thane says, "Any other volunteers?"
"I will take 2nd watch. Are we going to risk a fire this night?" Volthero cups a handful of flames in his hand. If the Party agrees he will use Create Bonfire with a pile of wood to have a fire all night.
Fargim does his usual camp preparation - move some earth out from a small circular area creating a place for a relatively safe fire.
"I can take something in between. My guess is that I have the best eyes for when it's darkest. Hox, would stay up with me, make sure I don't fall asleep?"

You awake at the sound of kobold screams and Thane's shout. During Thane's watch, bandits have sprung an ambush in the night, falling upon the kobolds 100 feet away, surprising both camps.
Elrik does his best to shake off his dwarven slumber and springs into action as quickly as possible. Wielding a throwing axe in each hand, he dashes directly toward the sound of the screaming kobolds, hoping to halve the distance between himself and the bandits.
While Elrik, Hox, and Diana sprint toward the kobold camp, Volthero launches eldritch energy across the battlefield, striking a bandit while he defends against Snug. Another bandit looks up just in time to "see" Fargim's stone as it shatters against his forehead, dropping him and half of his head to the ground, dead. Thane quickly pulls up his longbow, firing three shots that each meet their targets. One strikes the same bandit as Volthero's blast, felling him.
Before they even have a chance to react, Tuv and Vukdi are cut down, spilling blood onto the remains of their campsite. Only Snug remains, holding a useless wounded arm at his side.

"Help!" Snug cries as he nicks the closest bandit, drawing blood from an incoming arm.

Tracking: Five bandits remain. Two are undamaged, two have been hit by an arrow from Thane, and one has been cut by Snug's dagger. Snug is engaged with a bandit. Elrik is 50 feet from the bandits. Diana and Volthero are 70 feet from the bandits. Hox is 75 feet from the bandits. Fargim is 90 feet from the bandits. Thane is 100 feet from the bandits.

Knowing full well that his odds of success are slim, Elrik hurls an axe at the bandit nearest Snug nonetheless. "Bloody cowards!"he yells as he does so.

Elrik then continues his advance toward the bandits, moving another 25' in their direction.

When the target of his first barrage falls, Volthero will move the Hex to one of the bandits injured by Thane and launch another Eldritch Blast Attack: 17 DMG: 8 Hex DMG: 6
After the second barrage he will continue his advance towards the Kobold campsite.
