Eirikur reaches out to steady Hyalithza with a glowing hand upon seeing her dodge out of the way of the magnetic coils, but still being hit hard by them. Not wanting her to lose her grip and be ground to pieces below, he hopes that his divine healing will ensure her mind stays clear, despite the impact.
Eirikur finally absorbs Modoc's words and he glances at the working machinery. "Wipe the pistons? While the train's moving?!"
His face grows concerned. As the pistons move, he notes that they are not only moving back and forth, but also move up and down in a rocking motion. Reaching a hand out between the wheels to wipe lube off of the pistons may result in the piston bars pinching the hand off. "We're under the train and the pistons are on the outside of the wheels, on either side!"
Eirikur racks his brain for solutions and... solution!? Eirikur smiles, remembering his training days of using too much sword oil and having to clean the contents off of whatever was near the carelessly placed sword rag. "Ask the engineer if he has any alcohol! The harder the liquor, the better! If he does, pour it on the pistons!" he calls up to Modoc.
OOC: Alcohol is a great degreaser, but also highly flammable. So to borrow a phrase, let’s light this candle! Pray the d6 is on our side this time lol.
Hyalithza holds her ribs where the coils hit her, cursing loudly in the drow dialect as she glares hatefully at the remains of the invention. Pulling herself together she will move to try and assist whoever is moving to get the oil off of the pistons.
Modoc makes the climb and splashes the pistons with whiskey which indeed dissolve and washes off most the offending axle grease. The train finally slows down to a speed the train can handle.
The Engineer and Boilerman let out a sigh of relief.
The Engineer says "I have a lot of work to do so when you see them blasted crackpots give them hell"
The engineer slows the train to a full stop. He and the conductor will check out the locomotive and other parts of the train. When asked the engineer will say "We will be here for a couple of days as I access the damage and make repairs"
In the Passenger car a few people begin to move to the other cars which may include the freight car. The scientists seem unfazed as they go back to chatting with each other. Most leave the passenger car for the lounge car for some drinking and gambling.
Modoc quickly rejoins Gaelan and Dr. Bailey. "It's going to take a few days for the crew to assess and fix the damage to the train, but at least we stopped safely. How was everything in here?"
"Pretty uneventful. Got us a few spilled drinks and one lady had a feinting spell. I'm glad no scoundrels took advantage of the distraction."
He nods when the explanation for the unscheduled stop was shared. He finds it ironic that the things designed to make the trip faster ended up making it even slower than usual.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
Eirikur returns with Modoc, a satisfied grin on his face. He hefts the crowbar in his hands. "This came in handy after all."
He stows the crowbar and motions for the group to stay put. "I left my jacket on the crates. I'll go retrieve it."
Eirikur moves down the isle like a rolling boulder toward the freight car, the more timid people ducking back into their seat or hugging the wall to get out of his way. He stops at the door to the freight car and listens for anything beyond the door.
Eirikur smiles and touches his chest, speaking ancient words in casting a spell. He then pulls out his sword, which hisses with anticipation as it slides out of the half-scabbard.
"Gaelen!!!" he shouts back into the passenger car, then approaches the two armed individuals, shield at the ready. "You had better be up to no good." he says to the two, his eyes wild.
Hyalithza curses as she sees the coils come flying towards her and tries her best to get out of the way.

Hyalithza dodges most of the flying steel and twisting coper wires, but part of the magnetic coils hits her solidly enough to knock her back.

"You don't happen to have any alcohol on you? It may aid my friend in saving this train and your job.". Modoc asks the engineers.
The engineer throws his hip flask at Modoc "Here take it. Hope that whiskey is enough"
If you plan to douse the pistons then please roll athletics.
