(DC was 10 for the blood weeds. And can't really avoid it by helping another, the fire cleared out most but there were still quite a few plants itself)
Grigor helps K get through if she needs or wants. "I would offer myself as a humanoid shield going forward, but I think I can reach those two biggest bundles." He stands up straight and extends an inhumanly long arm in demonstration,"Aaaand, guessing giant webs means giant spiders. Not looking good for those guards if they made it this far." To Pushoverhe asks, "Any chance you can use some of that fire to clear out any of the webbing without setting fire to the cocoons before I try to cut them open?"
*As he studies the area getting ready to try to release what looks suspiciously like people and waiting to see if Pushover can help, Grigor coats his blades with a little oil, hoping it will help keep the webbing from sticking too badly.*
((Grigs is happy to focus on trying to cut people or bodies out, but I'm assuming there will be a spider fight first. :P ))
K gratefully accepts Grigor's help to get through the tunnel. [Does that mean K takes less damage, or...?]
At the cavern full of spider webs, K peers around to see if there is anything of note from the cocoons dangling from the ceiling or just the area in general. [Perception: 17 + 3 = 20]
As the party moves forward, K notes dark red orbs on the ceiling. It begins to creep forward as the party moves closer to the cocoons.
(Making a combat map.)
[Got ya, K will take the 3 necrotic damage from the blood weeds.]
Noticing the dark red orbs on the ceiling creep closer as the party moves to detach the cocoons from the ceiling, K tenses. "Guys, I think we're in trouble... The spiders are here and definitely not happy." She swiftly pulls out a book from her inner cloak pocket and holds it palms up as it flips open by itself. Not a moment later, the spider makes itself visible and hisses at the party.
Not at all surprised to see a giant spider in a room full of webs and cocoons, Grigor is ready to pounce. Moving quicker than one might expect from a man his size, The bugbear darts in with quick thrusts of his shortsword and dagger, then positions himself behind the creature hoping to distract it enough to give his companions an advantage. "You see a couple of guards come through here?" He doesn't expect the spider to answer, but you never know.
((The letters are cocoons? Moves up to S6 to attack with reach. Action: Shortsword (Vex) and dagger (Nick) BA: dash around to U2 to make it easier for someone to flank. Pushover runs forward to Q7 and shifts Aebelskink onto one hand to more easily flick a mote of fire at the beast, this time balancing her accuracy and potency perfectly. [Action: Fire bolt: 14 + 6 = 20 to hit, 6 fire damage] She mutters 'What a shame that you live in an enormous tinderbox...' as the spell hits the creature, then calls to Grigs, telling him to 'Stay where you are, I'll keep my distance and come across it's side [V6] so I can try and hit it with somereal magic! If anyone else wants to come round to flank, try to get right behind it and keep close to the cavern wall [T3] where you'll be out of the range of my attack. If it moves we can reconsider, but that'll mean risking the edge of Grigs' blade, so I think we've got a pretty solid plan- well, actually I mean it might be better if the rest of you gave it some thought, actually I'm not sure at all, I think I got carried away there, maybe if we sat and reconsidered then- yes I know I'm in battle Aebelskink!'
(Behind the spider would be U2 and I also close the gap more, since the spider is on the ceiling, not on the ground. Going under it should let Grigs reach it. Also since shortsword gave advantage, you can also apply sneak attack. Did add it in so a total of 25 damage)
Grigs jumps up and slashes across the spider's back. Adding in more hurt as he shivs the wound with his dagger. The spider spasms at the pain, even more so as Pushover throws fire at it. It smothers the flames as it begins to move frantically. It disengages and heads for a crack in the wall, crawling into it.
Grigs is a little surprised to see the beast retreat and watches for a moment just in case the spider is fetching friends before he returns to helping the others. "Yeah, guess it decided it could catch more food after we're gone..."
He surreptitiously glanced at the others while wiping spider blech from his blades wondering if he'd looked as bada$$ as he'd felt.
((Haha me either. Everything has to line up just right for the bugbear surprise attack to work, so he doesn't get to use it most combats.))
K blinks in shock at how Grigor and Pushover were able to make the spider retreat so easily. "You guys were so cool just now!" she grins, stowing her tome away again, not needing it for now.
She then turns to examine the kobold corpse in the first cocoon that the others manage to get down from the ceiling before the spider appears, grimacing a little at their appearance. "So, are they one of the guards you guys were looking for?"
Grigs grins broadly at the praise, hairless, ape-like chest puffing up a bit. "Feels pretty good when everything works out." He peered at the Kobold. "Maybe. Do they look more like a Sergeant Ava Teeshe or a Constable Yander Boot? Oh, is either missing a finger?"
The kobold doesn't wear any uniform familiar to you, rather had look of an explorer, dressed for travel but not for fighting. On the kobold, you find a vial of acid, a flask of alchemist’s fire, and a vial of antitoxin.
The other human sized body comes down, a small human is in the web. Dead and missing a finger. Along with matching the uniforms from the previous guards, it would make sense to call this corpse Constable Boot. On him, you can find he has a flask of holy water and a potion of healing.
Grigor scratches his chin scruff thoughtfully before beginning to bind the constable to his packs -after someone verifies he's dead of course - to carry back with them. "So where's the Sergeant? If she lost he man here, can't imagine she'd have willingly gone much farther in alone. Maybe I'm too upstanding a guy, but if I were a police sergeant and my little buddy Boots got nabbed, I'd either hole up somewhere to regroup and try to get him out, or go get backup at least..."
He also tries to take note of any stand out features of the kobold. "They came prepared..probably should have had a buddy with them though. They're small enough, I could carry them back too drop them off for the guard to sort out. Problem there is, home for them might be deeper in, not up in the city..."
He continues to think out loud before deciding to do the right thing by dead, nameless Kobold and bring the corpse along. "Worst case I can leave them, if it gets to be too much."
K nods along to Grigor's train of thought, agreeing with his actions. It's unfortunate that one of the guards they are looking for is dead and strange that the other one isn't with him, but maybe there's an explanation for it, if they find the other alive. K pockets the items found on the dead bodies and takes a last look around the cavern as she gets ready to leave. [K can pocket those items, right?]
((Grigs has crazy carry weight, but is 200lb total for Boot and the Kobold a good estimate? JIC we run into other things he feels compelled to add to his pile of junk.... I mean respectfully carried corpses.))
