"I've heard beheading foes that your truly despise and tossing the bodies overboard while putting the head in a chest to keep the souls wandering forever... but feet?" muses Sigurd.
(investigation: Nat 1) was checking if the feet were matched sets or all left or right.
Most religions or cults mostly have a focus on more crucial parts of the body. For example, one's heart, tongue, or eyes, Sigurd's example holds true as well. But for all the cults and religions you have heard about, none have had a focus on...feet. Perhaps its the work of a new cult, practice, or just a person really into feet, it's hard to tell. Cannot really tell if the feet pair with each other but they each are next to their opposite. And as the party were checking out the feet, a crackle goes out in the air as a pair of feet appear in the air and fall onto the cave's floor.
Oddly enough, the feet seem to be circling the large foot in the center of the chamber.
(Honestly didn't need to roll to check if they were paired up or if they were all left or right foots. I probably would've just said you forgot which one is left and what is right for that nat 1.)
"Uhh...so..somewhere people's feet are getting zapped off and teleported back here?" Out of morbid curiosity, Grigs goes up to examine the freshly fallen feet. Type of wound, are they ... warm?
"I don't know, this is effing weird. Got a feeling somewhere there's a taking people's feet off room and they end up here." Curiosity as satisfied as it's going to get, Grigs is ready to go. "Lead on. I stick to watching your sixes. I mean like behind the group. Not staring at anyone's can."
K watches nervously as Ja'Dul goes to stand at the northern feet symbol, and is relieved when nothing happens except for a glow from the symbol. She glances at the southern feet symbol and contemplates. "It seems like another person would have to stand on the other symbol at the opposite end with their bare feet for something to happen. But since we don't know exactly what will happen if we do, I don't think it's a good idea."
K nods at the other end of the chamber. "Maybe we'll find more answers as we continue?" She is inclined to go with Grigor.
"Perhaps we'll come across others clues that will give us an explanation further on in our explorations, let's move out." Sigurdthen takes the lead to the next area.
Pushover agrees the party should continue on 'Even if we don't find an answer as we continue, as long as this room does no harm to us, perhaps it's a mystery best left unsolved.'
Grigor nods to Pushover. "Yup. I can live not knowing...hope those aren't guard feet." Referring to the ones that had dropped while they were standing there.
"By the way, you feelin' alright?" Noticing Pushover seemed extra bothered by the feet room. Looked like she might keel over.

'I'm just fine, thank you. Whilst I've kept my eyes off the subject of this matter, my spellbook has kindly filled me on all the gory details. I'll be sure to dogear his pages next time I flick through, and this is one of those times where I wish he could project his voice to others, just so you lot could give him the earful I can't...'

"Oof. Those things are definitely not something I want to hear detailed explanations on,"K grimaces. "So, your spellbook speaks to you?" she asks, curious. Though she has noticed that Pushover constantly doubts herself, K can also tell that the tiefling wizard has a very good grasp on her magic and wants to learn more about her (and the other group members, but one at a time).

Pushovernods 'Mmhm, he was actually once a powerful archdevil by the name of Aebelskink. My father, before his passing, was an incredible mage himself, and managed totrue polymorph the fiend into this book. I'm not sure how he can communicate with me, or move his pages by himself, but I fear it may be something to do with the fact that I'm filling him with my own magic, which in turn is slowly unpicking the matrices of the spell. But, if I never reach the same level my father did, I can never inadvertently inscribe him with enough magic for the spell to be countered, so it's not a huge worry.'
[My plan for Pushover is to have her familiar be flavoured like a splintered part of Aebelskink (it'll make more sense when I get a chance to cast it!) and have her take the Order of Scribes subclass to represent him growing in presence and power!]
The party continues through the tunnels, leaving the strange feet room behind for now. The tunnel opens into a round room. Dirty brown water — sewage, judging by the smell — streams from pipes in the ceiling into a massive cesspool at the center of the room. A ten-foot-wide walkway skirts the pool, leading to a passageway on the other side.
Pushover gives a defeated sob as she walks into the room. It really didn't get better at all. She goes to take a deep breathe, but splutters from the stench halfway through, and just coughs out the words 'I think it's best we get round and out ASAP!'

"Huh. Like a foot curse? Stop them crossing the bridge to the afterlife or something?"
OOC: Are the feel all right feet? Left feet? both?

(( 10 on a medicine check))
*Well obviously we don't want to go near the big foot*
Ja'Dul goes to the north wall and puts his bare foot on the foot symbol.

The feet were cleanly cut off. Bone intact and blood drained. It feels cold and stiff but the rigor mortis has yet to full set in.
The northern symbol glows as Ja'Dul stands on it. There does not seem to be any other reaction.
(If you guys want to keep going, the other end of the chamber is open.)

The bugbear raises his hairy eyebrows, but doesn't have anything to add to the conversation. Devil trapped in a book. It'll probably be fine.
Doing his job as rear guard, he watches behind them to make sure they aren't followed by an army of feet.

"Well, fbeep." No way they were getting through this room without something jumping out of the sewage at them. "Yup. My advice is keep moving."
