“I am called Graxx.” Graxx says as he wades through the water. “Your brave donkey is to thank for your family surviving. The donkey made sure to get them to down before collapsing and perishing. I promised vengeance and have kept that promise.”
A hint of anger starts to creep into Graxx’s voice, “There are some cultists and more fish that need killing.”
"The names Darrius Mythweaver" looking towards Angus while getting ready to pick up the boys. "Angus, will you be so kind as to hold my torch?" Assuming he does, Darrius picks the two boys up and begins wading through the water.
*** Could Darrius have collected that net and half his arrows during the bit of down time while they were opening the cages and healing Angus? If not, that's fine.
(Just to backtrack slightly, once the drow has gone, Drazzim will also offer to help carry the young ones.)
"All in good time, Graxx." Drazzim says, helping the kids across the pool of water. "For now we make sure the young 'uns are safe and sound back in their cots first. Learn to save a life before you go off takin' one, that's what my clan say about that sort of thing."
Angus looks at Rose "Thank you, I am glad to hear it is so. I look forward to reuniting the family soon." He then turns to Graxx once again, "Haldred? that old donkey has been in the family for many years. I wish I had the chance to give it a proper burial..."
Darrius picks up Quayle in one of his arms and when he turns to give Volland a hand, he notices Drazzim has already put the kid sitting on his shoulders. Graxx helps both of the girls into the water as Utar, now heavy with coin, leads the entire group with the aid of the guiding rope he had planted on their way in. Rose swims flawlessly across the pond (athletics check), and is followed by Angus holding a torch and the six hired hands. Cato waits until all of them leave the room, gives it one last look as to ensure their rear is secure, and departs.
(OOC: Yes, Darrius had enough time to collect his net and some arrows).
The group avoids the previously discovered trigger wire trap and leaves the cave. The high noon sun makes your eyes water, especially those of the recent prisoners. The air is still a bit heavy and fetid, as the bog remains as you left it hours ago. In the mud, you can see fresh footstep running west, in the direction of Phlan.
(You've been through here before, and the footsteps help, so I'll need {DC 12} survival checks with advantage for everyone as you find your way back through the bog and into the road leading west. Group rolls {i.e. as long as you have more successes than fails, you are fine as a group}. Fails only add to how much time you spent doing so).
The party manages to lead the civilians out of the bog with no problems although Darrius seems convinced they were always going the wrong way until the group indeed finds the road back to Phlan. In fact, one of the hired hands seems to know the area quite well, and following her suggestions lands the group a few miles ahead of the peat farm. From this point onward, it should only take another 40 to 45 minutes before reaching the city walls.
During the walk back, some of the young ones cannot hide the fact that they are hungry. Their captors fed them relatively well, but it is now well past their usual lunch time. Angus tries to explain to them that they are not far from town, and that once there they'll search for some food, but children can be stubborn sometimes.
The road seems empty at this time of day. Most travelers would take shelter from the high noon sun and the hour following that time stamp. The warm, humid air makes it a bit more intolerable than usual, but nothing that can't be overcome with a rapid pace and a strong desire to reach civilization.
The hired hands chatter in the background throughout the entire trip, although most of what they have to say regard only how monstrous their captors were, how they will be looking for new jobs after this event, or how lucky they were their deity of choice sent champions to rescue them. Angus has a bit more to share. A bit of a history buff, the peat farmer owner shows off some of his knowledge about the city: "Did you know that Phlan was founded in 367 DR? That is over 1100 years ago, and about ten years after Northkeep was established. However, whereas Northkeep was destroyed and ultimately sunk into the sea, Phlan was merely leveled. The residents of Phlan simply brushed themselves off and rebuilt. This would be a recurring theme with Phlan, and why I am proud to be one of its citizens. More often than not, new construction would be performed atop old. This was the unfortunate result of a number of sinkholes and collapsed structures, but more than one hidden chamber has been discovered in the ruins of Old Phlan; sometimes with buried riches and sometimes with things of a more wicked disposition. I wish I had the courage to be an adventurer, much like you lot are. Of course, I barely know which one is the pointy end of a dagger! Hahaha. Who am I kidding, I serve the community in a much better way by providing them the natural fuel they need!"
(OOC: Let me know what your characters are doing/saying on the way back to town. Feel free to role play this trip back to Phlan as you wish. I'll pick up once we are ready to meet up in town).
The children feast on dried fruit and travel biscuits, smiling at Rose in between bites. A treat for them as it differs from the cabbage soup they habitually get for lunch.
"Hello Mr. Vandebar, thank you for all the help back there. Do you think your friend with the greataxe over there, the one who's named Graxx, is alright? He's been mumbling for quite some time. Maybe he should get that checked once we reach Phlan again. It shouldn't be that far. Half an hour more worth of walking, I gather."
Darrius will walk quietly back towards town making sure none of the kids wander off.
*** Darrius is not a quiet person, by any means, he is very much the definition of southern hospitality. His player is just extremely tired after the rather horrible weekend driving he did. I just wanted to make sure I got a post in before finally passing out!
As they wander along the road, Utar makes up small bags of gold from the offerings they found in the cave. Six bags of 15gp and one of 12gp. Utar wanders between them all, making sure that each member of the party receives one of the larger bags, "Best you take this now to cover your time and expenses. I doubt the guards in town will make sure you have a hot meal or bed tonight and I for one would like to know that you are taken care of."
Turning to Angus, Utar hands over the smallest bag. "Share this amount between yourselves. Make sure that you are all looked after."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
On the way back, Drazzim will take out one of his day's shares of trail rations for the kids to have. He may be stubborn and gruff, but he can try and be nice when he can.
Drazzim looks to the pouch that Utar passes him. "Well, payment for winning the battle. Seems a fair share." He says, taking the pouch of gold. The contemplates it at first, then looks to the family. He takes 10 gold out of the bag he was given. "Here. This should help you get some food and rest in Phlan somewhere good. The Tea Kettle's where I'm staying right now, though you might not want the kids to pick up my loose tongue after a few ales." He chuckles, trying to brighten the mood.

Utar shields his eyes, blinking in the light. He inhales deeply, "Let's get moving. Torm has smiled upon us."

Rose shares a ration with the kids.
Graxx walks along seemingly off thinking about past events and muttering to himself. "Ungrateful... Ungrateful... My axe needs no translation!"
Cato introduces himself to those he has helped liberate.
"Hello, Professor Cato M. Vandebar, at your service. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."
