Arista straightens from the scarred pillar, brushing clay from her palms. “The ward’s dead now—whatever power fed it vanished with those demons—but its very presence means someone’s claimed the old keep,” she says, glancing north along the trail. “There's still a long sodden road before we reach those walls, so keep weapons ready and eyes sharper; whoever raised this alarm will be expecting company.” Arista tries to judge how much of their journey still lies ahead, how many days are they away?
[[If you're looking for someplace to camp for a short rest, remember that I use 10 minutes short rests.]]
Kaelen: After about an hours trek, you spot a secluded spot where a stream forms a tiny waterfall off a small escarpment. There is a small group of deer drinking from the stream as Kaelen approaches.
Arista: Your journey was supposed to take about 4 full days, depending on how overgrown the path was. You are mid-afternoon on the second day, so two full days after today, as your delays due to rain and mud were mitigated by skipping a midday stop with goodberries.
[[I was gonna wait till nightfall, but I'm gonna tell you now. You have survived several encounters and nearly suffered a death. You all can level up to level 3 at the next long rest. The next level will likely be a little farther away, maybe if you each the keep and return to Threshold, maybe further.]]

(Yeah, I think we can aim for a long rest at this point. It was a tough battle and if the place to rest is a good one it is probably best we stay there for the night.)
You set down to camp for the night, the small pool by the waterfall proves a great source of water and fishing, if you like, although nutritionally you are good with the berries.
It seems to be a nice quiet night to be out in nature, if you hadn't so recently had an experience with foul magics.
I would like two rolls of a d6. Any volunteers for one or both?

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
3 and 3
(As soon as possible when they decide to make camp there:)
Arista paces the clearing Kaelen found, testing the ground with her staff and noting lines of sight from every approach. Muttering about fresh demons on their trail, she crouches at the perimeter and begins marking a broad ring in the soggy soil; with curt, giant-tongued syllables she calls the earth to loosen (Mold Earth), intending to hollow a 5ft wide and deep trench all the way around the camp and heap the displaced dirt inward into a low berm that will hide any fire-glow and give the party a bit of cover against arrows.
Arista: How big of a circle are you planning to make? Mathematically, a 100' circle berm would take 6 minutes, but let say 30, with planning and actual craftsmanship. I'd like a Nature or Survival roll for the construction expertise to get the angle right so it doesn't collapse and such.
Kaelen: You see a loose join on an axle and are able to repair it easily.
All: You pass the night peacefully, take a long rest and Level Up!

Asariel makes no specific preparation for the long rest but does spend some time just dancing. He realises that his armour is getting in the way, and that actually it slows him down so he removes it and puts it on the cart. He also focuses on how he can take his dance moves and the naturally sharp and fast movements he does, and translate that into a forceful strike against an enemy. (taken college of dance as planned)

(Survival 13. Yeah, I imagine it might take that long or even longer like an hour, depending on how complex it is. There might be reasons to clear a tree or two and it could easily take longer than an hour but people might help and four hands can already work twice as fast as two (well almost).)
Brekka awakes the following morning clearly reinvigorated and ready to take on the day. The weariness and wounds of yesterday are long-forgotten as he works through his morning exercise regime, using what he can of the landscape around the camp to limber up and keep his powerful draconic body in shape.
"What a morning, friends. We will surely make great progress today," he says encouragingly in his deep, rumbling voice.
[[I just remembered we never identified the items we found under the bridge. Could we have used this long rest to have done so?]]
Kaelen glances up as he finishes recording their progress in his notes. "Yes, I believe we will," he agrees with Brekka, also feeling energized by their rest. His trance felt particularly deep last night; he feels more aware and at home in the darkness than ever, which should prove useful as they face more of the horrors of this place.
((Yay! And Gloom Stalker as expected.))

Even before you start carving, you can tell, the magic has faded with the demons. The color-change magic remains, however.

"Whoever set it knows we're alive anyway, if that voice's threat is anything to go by," Brekka adds while he cleans the battle's mess from his blade.
"Let's move on and find somewhere to regroup."
He offers his thick, muscled arm to help Torban back into the rider's seat of the cart.
Kaelen moves forward a bit to scout ahead for any good spots to camp that would also be relatively hidden from enemies.

Once they are settled, Kaelen checks over the cart to make sure he catches any small mechanical issues and fixes them before they become big ones.
