"Masks sound like a really good idea!" Caspian hesitates for a moment, and it's clear that he doesn't want to bring up this next part. "But, maybe it would be easier to do them here? With cloth? Our cobbler friend here could certainly whip something up for us I think. I may be being paranoid, but can you really trust that merchant? If he talks it could be really bad for us."
Caspian is going to think for a moment, mumbling out loud about what we ought to do before he continues, "Of course, you could always tell him you need them for something else. Is there any fair or festival coming up that includes masks? If it works out right then that could be a way for us to disperse and blend into the crowd after the heist, so we can meet back here separately and pool our shards. If we have a getaway vehicle, then I think we should use that vehicle to put distance between us and any pursuers, before we one by one take a leap out of it when we round a corner or something. That way, Eleven gets to drive his, whatever it is, and we can also minimize the risk of all of us being caught at once after the heist."
Caspian is going to smile brightly when something he bought turns out to be useful, "It's all yours! You look like you know a lot more about it than I do. Here, I also got a spool of string that you can probably rig up as a fuse."
OOC, I'll remove the bomb from my inventory and you can add it to yours. It's a common item. Also, the same goes for the string.
"Oh! Yeah, I almost forgot! I have three potions of healing as well in case anyone needs one. Better to have it and not need it that to need it and not have it is what I was thinking."
Boo pulls out one of her spare empty sacks and asks the cobbler amongst the group, "can you please make some alterations to this sack so if needed I can slip it over my head to wear it as a mask. I can put it on and you can measure out the correct place for eye holes and a mouth slit, maybe add a simple drawstring, so I can adjust it for a better fit to help keep it secure and sliding about? Thank you, sweetums!"
The Halfling turns to Eleven, "hun, I got another sack you can use if you like and get it customized to use as a mask here and now as well if you like?" She pulls out another sack for the Dragonborn's use and hands it to him, or puts it back in her pack if he is not interested.
Boo figures, for now, it best to take care of it here and now with available materials that work just as well just in case things get rushed, she has something on hand. Should the opportunity present itself later and she or someone is out shopping, etc. and can get a more presentable and stylish mask then she will look to do that, otherwise she will have a sack ready as a backup. Taking the time now she stows her university signet ring and university patch in her pack to hide in her pack out of sight to reduce the risk of looking too identifiable. Noted, these things on my character sheet.
(I was asleep and then I had to go out to do stuff. Just caught up.)
When people are discussing who will board the train and who will secure their exit, Eldin says, "I am quite confident in my ability to hide. I don't have a familiar but I can cast Charm Person and make them tell us where the Shards are. I'm also quite good at picking locks and I can do this." He casts Mage Hand and moves it around. "I can have this hand open one chest while I open another, provided I have 2 sets of Thieve's Tools." He dispells the Mage Hand and continues, "Though I usually like to avoid fights, I can hold my own and perhaps keep the guards busy to protect others should it come to that." He brandishes his shield and his rapier. "I also know Fire Bolt and Thunderclap. I can use those to attack people at range or push a group of guards around be back."
He finally ends by saying, "I'm a mercenary so I will be in whatever group you need me to be in. However, from my point of view, I think I will be better suited to boarding the train and finding the shards."
Eldin tugs at his scarf and says, "You can use this if you want. I have a pretty uncommon skin-tone and horn structure so I'm going to need something that covers my face as well as my horns."
(Just reviewing the past three pages of chat. I'm just going to leave some notes as for things that people have asked about already)
You could buy some sturdy formal masks that shouldn't break upon an unlucky hit for 1sp each, so fairly affordable to disguise yourself.
For trying to get disguises, if you are a Rogue Assassin you'll eventually get access to flawless disguises. In the meantime, you may need to try and find a black market dealer in Dura who can supply suitable uniforms. I'd like a Persuasion check for managing to locate someone. If you have the Charlatan or Criminal background, you'd get advantage on this. Keep in mind trying to source such things in 24 hours could knock up the price from standard.
For getaway vehicle, since the extraction will be just before the lightning rail reaches Middle Dura, the best way might be to try and steal a Skycoach, which is a floating taxi cab effectively. Finding one of a suitable size for 12 people and a crate may be difficult, so apprehending two may be better.
You'll be able to buy standard items from the Player's Handbook at normal cost. Since Dura has a fairly active criminal side, you have the chance to buy smuggled goods. If people are looking for other things to buy, let me know ;-)
Don't forget about your Heist Points! If you miss something, we can retroactively get you those things during the run.
Eleven pats Boo on the head. "Don't worry, Miss Boo, I'm sure you won't need avenging. You just keep yourself healed with that mark if yours." He turns to Edric. "I once saw a guy who had a hat that could change his appearance. You think your mask guy has anything like that? I'll wear a sack if I have to, but I'd rather not."
“I always carry plenty of extra leather for my work, so it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle to whip up a few mask as it has been suggested. I’m no tailor or artisan though, so don’t expect anything pretty. I’m just not sure I have enough for 12 of them. Perhaps I could focus first on those with horns and scales. Some of us with less identifiable features could use the altered sacks. I.... well... I won’t need any.”
With that, the cobbler starts working with leather and bags/sacks and his beloved tools.
(OOC: can I get a DM ruling on how to go about this?)
If you are wanting to make some leather masks, you could perhaps get someone to go buy some bones that could be used to make horn appendages so all the masks will reflect the tieflings and make it less likely to be noticed. It would be a Dexterity (Leatherworker's Tools). Cobbler's tools are more traditionally for making and repairing shoes. It'd cost half the amount of supplies than buying the masks outright, though it will take time per mask (probably 6 hours total) and a chance of not making them that well.
Ith moves he has seen and heard enough to judge the others. Finally deciding to take the letter and reads it quickly, seeing if there is a hidden message or something more on the page.
"Masks are good, if any of us get seen it's going to get a lot hairier getting away. and who gets into what group ?"
"On second thought, my tools may not be appropriate to complete the task at hand, and even if they were, it wouldn't be done in a manageable amount of time. But worry not, I'll go out with Eldin here to buy some masks. I'll make sure they can't track the purchase back to any of us."
"anyone object to me taking the bomb?" Majin has a crazy look in his eyes when he looks at the bomb.

"Thank you kindly" Majin say as he pockets the bomb.

Edric freezes for a moment before shrugging. He looks a bit crestfallen but understands the other's logic.

Okay, Persuasion to find masks: 15
(At least it wasn't a nat1 like the last 3 times I rolled)
The masks don't require a roll, just a bit of time to head to Middle Central to buy some from the theatre district.
(If someone goes along with you, perhaps they'll help you find some dodgy dealers for any black market wares you might want)
Eleven pats Boo on the head. "Don't worry, Miss Boo, I'm sure you won't need avenging. You just keep yourself healed with that mark if yours." He turns to Edric. If the cobbler is going to be making masks, Eldin won't go to buy some. He might go out to get more leather if there isn't enough though.
