As Graxximus looks on, Talon forces Fancy out of the room and next to him, with a quick stop in its own pocket dimension. You don't get much of a reaction from the imp. Once instructed, Fancy puts his hands through the open doorway. For those outside the room, it simply looks like the imp is floating in place, its hands stretched out, as if it were doing the same thing in any of the doors you have passed through before.
Le'gal: From your perceptive, Fancy disappears. You know exactly what that means, and turn to face the patch of wall where the door you went through would have been. Surely enough, impish little hands come through the wall. You know they belong to Fancy, but you do not see the rest of the imp's body. Suddenly, a paper ball with instructions hits your forehead. It came from the same area as the one where Fancy's hands are poking through. Assuming you follow the instructions on the note, you hold three fingers down, as you can trace back your steps just fine, but there is only solid wall (and now imp hands) where the exit should be.
Nox: Confirming you suspicions, your Detect Magic reveals the entire room is covered in a soup of conjuration magic. You then concentrate on dispelling the effect on the door (one object) in hopes of reveling an exit to your trapped companion. It works, but instead of reverting back to a mundane door, the area where you dispelled the effect reverts back to being solid wall. Fancy screams, turning around to reveal its hands have been amputated by the sudden solidification of the now non-existent doorway.
Le'gal: From your perspective, Fancy's hands simply drop to the floor, clearly severed. You never notice any change to the wall. You cannot hear your colleagues on the other side.
After Nox's Dispel Magic, you all lose sight of Le'gal and Sylvester. You are all facing a dead end. As far as you know, you have trapped Le'gal in.
After several minutes of wondering what to do next (let's say 6 or 7 minutes have passed), the doorway begins to reappear, in patches at first, and then completely. Nox would have guessed that the strong conjuration magic within the rest of the room was able to re-pour itself over the part that is now the doorway again over time. You can see Le'gal again, but the situation is back to where it was several minutes ago.
Nox sight of relief seeing Le'gal reappear. "Seem it a one way portal" The tortle start writing another piece of paper telling Le'gal "Stay close where the Chain (10 feet) is i'll try to teleport you back to us". She then throw crumbled paper at le'gal and half the Chain (10 feet) through the door while holding it on the other end. When she infront of us again Nox tries to telleport Le'gal back with her druid power *Hidden Paths*.
Hidden Paths
Hidden Paths Starting at 10th level, you can use the hidden, magical pathways that some fey use to traverse space in the blink of an eye. As a bonus action on your turn, you can teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. Alternatively, you can use your action to teleport one willing creature you touch up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.
"Not good... not good at all."Le'gal says wide-eyed as she backs away from Fancy's still twitching hands. She spends the next minute staring warily at her surroundings with Mace in hand and Sylvester recalled to herself to serve as the eyes in the back of her head. When nothing more comes after its passing, Le'gal momentarily switches to her shortbow and fires at the space where Fancy's hands had projected from. And when THAT inevitably fails to produce more results than a splintering of her shortbow, a sigh mixing both relief and defeat is set free.
"Next time find stone. I keep." Shaking her head, she switches back to shield and mace and spends the next 4 or so minutes invesitigating the walls starting from Fancy's point of reference. Starting with the floor stonework, Le'gal tries to carve an arrow in it using first claws and arrowheads before relenting and trying to draw the arrow instead if nothing else works.
Whether she succeeds or not, she next turns to examining the remaining walls and ceiling with Sylvester's help by touch and sight. Blissfully unaware of the slowly returning one-way portal, the possibly increasingly frustrated bugbear turns towards tries directing through hums and half-whispered lyrics the natural weave of magic into the walls to see if it will react or not.
"After the havoc that I'm gonna be, no more words, with feelings born of need.
All I see, another ruin left to we, O Lady Er-athis, please end the greed."
She spoke sung on, showing less restraint in her voice as she called upon her deity for guidance in her time of need during the process. And soon enough, Sylvesters yowls accompany the song.
Investigation: 7. (if perception would be workable, then add +8 to current roll.)
(@Lerus: Using Arcana to represent her skill in directing the raw magical essence along with expending a 1st level spellslot. The performance roll is just for funsies.)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
When you realize you're doing too much: Signature.
Le'gal: Once you starting marking the ground with the arrowheads the scratches linger, and you are successful in using them as reference points. With the help of Sylvester, you begin examining the room around you more closely. Your familiar does not report anything specific. Touching the walls, your attunement with both divine and arcane magic does reveal to you that the entire room is under a powerful enchantment (unlike Nox, you do not know that it belongs to the conjuration school). You feel uncomfortable knowing that you are surrounded by powerful magic and your companions have not been able to assist you, or even willing to come into the chamber to help. At this moment, a chain comes flying from the same patch of wall as Fancy did. A note on a piece of paper follows up. Reading the note, you grab the chain.
Nox: Once Le'gal grabs the chain, you try to teleport her back next to you. It's a big gamble, as you know you usually have to be touching your intended target. As you suspected, the trick fails. Soon, Le'gal seems to understand that too. You both drop the chain at about the same time, coincidentally.
You can all hear Le'gal's song. As she finishes it, the room itself begins to react. The simple sconces dim ever so slowly. Le'gal's sixth sense (passive perception) tells her this is not a good sign. As the lights dim, the one-way portal's visibility begins to get foggy. Nox, Graxximus, Sigil, Talon, Charles, Fancy, and Rodger Rabbit gradually begin to lose their ability to peek through the doorway and see Le'gal and Sylvester.
Time is running out. For what, it is still uncertain.
"There has to be something we can do! We cannot allow another one of our own to perish!" Graxx says frantically searching his brain for something to do.
If the portal closes Graxx will start swinging his mace wildly at the wall.
Nox put her hand through the door waving at Le'gal trying to invite her to hold her hands she tries again to teleport her back with *Hidden Paths* and pull her arm back in.if she succesfull gettting le'gal back but can't retract her hand she teleport back to with *Hidden Paths* to. If getting Le'gal back wasn't succesfull she says "Well i am on wits end might aswel face whatever coming together" she then goes trough the door.
Charles' Wall of Force is cast through the changing doorway. It seems to interact with the magical doorway somehow, forcing its the fogginess to not take over the immediate area surrounding the wizard's magical wall. Though that small area of lucidity, you can still see Le'gal.
Seeing some results, both Nox and Graxximus spring to action. The paladin strikes the opaque portion of the doorway, and finds resistance as if he was hitting solid wall. No damage is dealt to the structure but this confirms that Charles' spell has bought them some time, albeit it not much. The druid then shoves her arm through the still clear part of the wall.
Le'gal: You can see a tortle's arm poking through, just as Fancy's did before.
(OOC: If going for the arm, I'll need a straight DEX check from Le'gal, and a DEX saving throw from Nox.)
"So is this how it ends?"Le'gal states solemnly as watches the scones start to dim. A fleeting smile comes unbidden to her surface as Sylvester rubs himself up against a leg. The others will see her gently pick up and place on her shoulder, then turn back to the doorway. "If you can hear. Listen. I--" Is about all she probably gets out before being shunted back a bit by part of the Wall of Force. And if not, she just places a hand towards the 'wall' leading back, a look of deep thought about her.
"Maybe enchantment is vision based. Or.. hmm..." Le'gal starts to commit to the idea. But seeing Nox's hand she only hesitates only for a moment before taking off the necklace and pressing them into Nox's hand, not understanding the gesture.
"And may the Lady provide the binding oath so that all may walk as one."She says aloud, a smiling with her eyes. Her hand lingers for a moment more, and if not teleported away by then, she tries to let go and step away before the same thing happens to Nox. "A final request, Lady Erathis. If time is now and no more... A means of rejoining the side is all I ask." Le'gal says, hands clasped together and forehead pressed against the knuckles.
Divine Intervention Roll(if it comes down to it):
DC 16: 43.
Need to roll at or below the number to be consider a success.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(@Palfatreos: Yours is supposed to be a DEX saving throw. You get a +1 to that, in addition to Graxximus'Aura of Protection for another +4. Your final roll is a much improved 12.)
As Le'gal lets her hand linger for a moment, she can tell that the Wall of Force is not going to hold up for much longer. As she prepares for the worst, Nox performs her teleportation trick.
Charles feels his spell be destroyed by the magic of the room and fears for his mate. He then opens his eyes to see Le'gal's large frame right in between him and the tortle. Nox's relief is apparent on her face. So much so, that she hesitates to bring out her hand a for a split second. It is enough for the druid to feel the sting of loosing a finger tip or two (Nox takes 2 force damage.)
(@Laserwhit: BTW, I should have mentioned that Fancy took 6 force damage for each of his lost hands from earlier. That is a total of 4 force damage.)
You are now all back together, in a dead end, but safe. The options you have at the moment are to stay and try to determine/solve this strange room with a one-way doorway (though it seems deactivated right now) or track back to the chamber where you fought Ooguay and take the only path remaining, where Bartok was killed by a poison arrow.
(@Lerus: I don't suppose Sylvester got conveniently pulled along for the port, yah?)
Le'gal faintly nods without really looking at anyone, and shakily puts the necklace of beads back on. Even after taking a moment or two to get her wits back about her, she has to lean against a nearby wall for a while more. "That... was too close. But yes. Let us press on there." She turns giving Graxximus and Sigil a strained smile. "With you being kept in lead this time."
Remembering after the fact, the bugbear Cleric tries to focus on picking up Sylvester's senses if the celestial spirit wasn't transported along with her. Whether the answer is good, bad, or somewhere in between, one last look is cast back to the now empty wall as she settled in to follow at the back of the bus. Though not without first thanking Nox with a great big bear hug, and a whispered thank you to the Tortle. Of Rodger, she leaves behind to keep an eye on the former doorway just in case.
Talon is distracted by Fancy losing it's hands and almost misses the action. He is relieved to have Le'gal back with them but wonders out loud. "Were we supposed to get trapped in that 'other world'? This place is full of surprises." He leads the group back to the grassy area and tries to determine which way is going to get them through this maze.
Talon leads the group towards the point where Bartok disappeared from a poisoned arrow. Before they actually get to that point he stops and asks "Any suggestions on how to proceed? I can send Fancy forward but I assume it will take the same arrow that Bartok took. I'm up for ideas?"
Charles opens his eyes and sees Le'gal safe and sound. He exhales heavily and chuckles, "That was a long shot, but I'm glad it worked." He will then follow the rest of the group wherever they decide to go.
The group reunites with Le'gal in relief. After a brief moment of respite, the bugbear tries to sense her familiars and becomes momentarily surprised when she can't feel either Sylvester or Rodger Rabbit. She then recalls that in her panic to get out of her strange prison, she asked Erathis for guidance, which forced her pets back into their own plane (concentration spells...)
The group agrees to backtrack and Talon leads the way back to the fields. Realizing there is only one more path to explore, the dwarf moves on leading the group down the hallway Bartok had taken. Le'gal warns the party about the point where the bat was hit by an arrow and Graxximus is the first to brave a step forward; then another; and another... nothing happens. It would seem the trap that killed Bartok was an one-off trick, as best as you can tell.
Going farther, the path soon splits again. The options are to either take the path to your right, which ends at a simple wooden door 20 feet away; or take the left path, which also goes for 20 feet before turning left again. For the sake of expediency, we can say that Fancy flies over to examine this left path. It then flies back and reveals the left path apparently ends at a dead-end after the turn.
(@Lerus: Aww man! Totally forgot about that. Ugh, would'a been so perfect! Aww well. Not worth another spell to at least have one on watch.)
(In other news, do I know what spells are actually in this set of prayer beads? Or it just 1 of each for sake of ease?)
While Charles takes point considering which path for the group to take, Le'gal regains the rest of her sensibilities to finally pat the halfling on the shoulder. "Thanks again. Gunsmith." She cracks a small smile, then looks to Talon. "World? So.. it was Conjuration then? Not illusion, or enchantment?" The Bugbear's eyes widen at the news. "Interesting... Mayhaps not trap, but gateway. Responded to song earlier. I think." She rubs her chin deep in thought. "Though without means to control. Would end up lost if moved elsewhere. Hmph! Devious."
