"Heavy chain and oversized padlock, my favourite." Balian rummages in a pocket and retrieves a variety of lockpicking tools. Studying the lock for a second, he put a few of the tools away, and starts to fiddle with it using the others.
Lockpicking: 24
Having picked the lock, he turns and approaches Shale, standing next to a sarcophagus. "Shale, I think you misplaced these in the temple." He grabs the genasi's hand and drops 10 gold coins into it, then walks away with a smirk on his face.
As your pick touches the lock, you see a brief flash of light out of the corner of your eye. The two suits of armor begin to step forward off of their pedestals. At the same time an eerie translucent blue humanoid looking figure with glowing red eyes, holding a translucent longsword, rises up from the front right sarcophagus. They don't seem to be pleased with your presence here.
Map and initiative rolls to come in an hour or two! Feel free to roll your own in the mean time if you want.
Squiggles stops his ritual and shakes his head. Ten minutes. That's all. Ten minutes. I wasn't sitting there mumbling away in Sylvan for entertainment's sake. "What shall we do while the clever and benevolent wizard ensures our safety and attempts to ascertain the nature of these completely out of place objects and sarcophagi? I KNOW! Let's touch things! Let's pretend to fence with the door and play Yahtzee on the very clearly magically sealed tombs!"
Sighing once more, Squiggles voice descends into a mumble as he prepares to defend himself. "I swear to Baravar, I'm just going to watch one of these days and everyone will say 'but Squiggles, we need help!'...."
"Look on the bright side Squiggles", Balian says optimistically, readying his bow. "I detected the magic in a fraction of the time it was going to take you to do it!"
Man, I posted that so many times with different combinations of line breaks and other whitespace, etc. At first it showed the armor but not the spirit, then the spirit not the armor, with different rolls each time. Some of the rolls were lower, to be fair, but I wasn't keeping track, so I just decided to go with however they came up when I put them in their own post.

OOC: Wouldn't have been fun if we all ganged up on the spirit and took it out without it having a turn, and I totally get we're guinea pigs in this one-shot. I actually thought we were gonna take some surprise damage once the spirit had appeared. Happy with how it turned out.
"Whoa whoa," Shale jumps back as everything comes to life. "Good job, Balian. We should make you apprentice wizard, second class. I'm sure Squiggly would love to train you," he says takes a couple of steps back to the middle of the room (G9). Looking towards Brix's target, the cleric bangs his staff against his shield causing bells to ring around the suit of armor.
The magical vibrations caused by the cleric's spell cause reverberations throughout the suit of armor. You hear a second clang as the metal rings and cracks (28 damage).
The eerie spirit steps forward (to J11) and swings its spectral longsword twice at Jarl (Attack 1: 15 Damage: 11, Attack 2: 10 Damage: 9). However, the first swing catches the druid's shield, and the second sails over his head as he manages to duck out of the way.
Balian, Jarl, and Squiggles are up.
Jarl: Let's say it took 30 sec before Balian's thieves' tools made contact, so Shillelagh is up for 5 rounds.
Jarl gives a short yelp of surprise. “What about detecting undead? Or are we afraid of what we might discover?” He uses his reaction to use Halo of Spores on his attacker. CON save DC 16 or it takes 4 necrotic damage.
On his turn:
He strikes back at the spirit with his staff. Attack: 23 Damage: 12

In a flash, Balian grabs the chain previously locking the door off the wall, and whips it towards the suit of armor nearest him, attempting to lasso it.
Ranged improvised weapon attack: 18
"Good doggy! Be nice for master!" Balian attempts to 'pacify' the armor, but has the look of someone dealing with the most unpredictable of pets.
Balian's improvised lasso lands precisely right around the armor's neck, as it turns toward the thief. (A2 is quasi-restrained; attacks against it have advantage, its attacks have disadvantage, and it can move only toward Balian, until it uses an action to throw off the chain)
