Varinth agrees with Dario summation and totally misses Strix's none too subtle suggestion of using him as a Trojan bomb (although he probably would have been quite flattered). When they arrive at the temple Varinth will let the adults do the talking You're an adult Idiot
As an aside, I've never played a sorcerer before, will I need to train with my master to acquire my new spell or does it just come to me?
OCC: Sorcerer's are born with their magic, so I guess canonically you just grow in power and can exert that power in different ways as you experience life and try to solve the problems that come up with your magic. I know your character has a sort of mystery background, so if that's more of the route you're asking in then I'm sure Steve could work something into the narrative of your new spells coming to you.
The Phandalin Miner's Exchange is another simple log building, constructed next to yet more of the ruins of old Phandalin of the past. Scupper, Strix and Dekhan, as you enter, there appears to be no-one inside; you see the equipment needed to weigh, measure and store valuable ore or other finds, and an entire wall has been devoted to shelves of books. Shortly after you enter, a tall, middle-aged woman steps through a doorway from the back, and with her arms crossed in front of you, she casts a slow, calculating eye over each of you in turn, as though you were horses she was considering buying. After the pause goes on a little too long for comfort, she speaks: I heard there were strangers in town. I wondered if you'd make it to my little establishment. Halia Thornton's the name. And you are?
Dario, Incantis and Vaz, the temple is literally twenty paces from the door to the inn. It's a shrine made of stones probably taken from the nearby ruins and stacked together to make a circular wall, with some cover from the rain but no proper roof as such. On stepping inside, it's obvious from the first glance that this temple is dedicated to Tymora, goddess of luck, which is not a surprise given the town's connection to prospecting.
Sitting on a bench across the way is a young elf who is furiously rubbing her left arm and muttering to herself; she occasionally winces as it appears a shock of pain runs up the arm. When she notices you enter, she jumps up and clasps her hands together in front of her in a rather unconvincing imitation of a calm, serene servant of the Gods. She doesn't keep it up long, and goes back to rubbing as she greets you: Hello there. Welcome to Lady's house. My name's Garaele, you can call me Sister Garaele. The Lady welcomes any who follow her, or who follow any other god. Not evil ones, of course. Anyway, welcome and all that. Excuse me, I'm going to sit down now.
She flops back down onto the bench; you can see that she's exhausted, but her eyes stay upon you even as she rubs her arm some more.
As they get to the temple, which luckily is just a short walk from where they were staying, Dario looks over at Incantis and Vaz and says, "So... how should we go about this? Maybe, you two do most of the talking while I say in the back in case something happens?Vaz, I think you got this."
As an aside, I've never played a sorcerer before, will I need to train with my master to acquire my new spell or does it just come to me?
As Squigs says, sorcerers get their magic intuitively, none of that book-learning that wizards have to do. So it's up to you how you want to handle it. I've seen a sorcerer on a PbP game here who narrated the first casting of each new spell as if it was as much a surprise to him as to everyone else - he just kind of got the feeling he could do something new, and he tried it, and it worked right away!

Dekhan Vale, at your service miss Thornton. These are my friends, Scupper and Strix. We understand you've had some dealings with the Redbrands. It seems that they've got a stranglehold on much of the town, my friends and I would loosen their grip if we can.
A heartbeat. And then another. One eyebrow raised. And why, asks Halia slowly, would you do such a thing as that. Less than a full day in town, and already such bold words. What do you know of the Redbrands. Their numbers? Their purpose? Of precisely how much use are you to me?
Strix continues to stare, wondering what has happened to the order of things that he is now the voice of nuance in the party. He looks her up and down.

That's the reason we've come here, to find out what we can about their numbers and disposition. We are given to understand that while they run roughshod over the rest of the town the fear to cross you and yours. We are of a mind that we could be of use to eachother...
Strix looks at Dekhan agape, trying to understand what kind of game he's playing.
But he's not. He's serious. Oh dear. About twenty minutes too late it occurs to him that he really should have asked someone what a paladin actually is. With subtlety out the window he shuffles back a little to get a better view through that door the lady came through, and to ensure there's a wall to his back.
I see, says Halia slowly. The Redbrands have no fear of me, I assure you. I simply go out of my way not to get in their way, so to speak. She looks over at Strix and Scupper. And what say you, my friends? Are you of a mind to be of use, like your comrade?
Strix, you get a brief glimpse of the room that Halia came from; a small but light room with a surprisingly large desk piled high with papers. Then she closes the door over.
Dekhan begins to pick up on Strix's unease and thinks back to his promise to keep his head on straight. Between that and Halia's hesitation, he sees if he can pick up on anything she might be hiding or what may be causing Strix to be uneasy. Perception 8
Dekhan, you're very vaguely aware that Halia and Strix are not completely relaxed, but there's a dangerous gang terrorising the town so, probably nothing unusual in their behaviour.
Did you mean Insight? I feel it would be Insight, and you added the +3 rather than your +1 Perception...
Varinth walks over to the sister and crouches down to where she is sitting.
Are you hurt? You do not look well, Sister. Can we help? My name is Vaz. And these are my companions Incantis and Dario he gestures to each in turn We came to give thanks to the Goddess for our current run of luck but it seems we have a higher priority.
Strix is not used to others being as direct and guiless as he is, thats all :) although I'd be nervous that the redbrands leave her alone, so the chances that she'll rat us out to them are pretty high.
Based on the descriptions we got from the inn regulars, the priestess is the straightforward goody type, Thornton is possibly the more complicated less trustworthy one. As such, Strix and Dekhan are perhaps the worst choices to talk to her!
Strix cocks his head and clicks his tongue, absorbing the echoes as they bounce off the woman's bonestructure.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Now inside the temple, Dario stands back with Incantis, allowing Vaz to do the talking. While Vaz question the lady, Dariolooks about at the temple to see if he notices any clues pertaining to the Redbrands, the missing mine, and the Rockseeker brothers.

Edit - too slow
Strix meets her gaze and pauses before answering.
As a monk, he finds the silence quite cosy.
Pause.......
He blinks slowly....
