Varinth listens. He's been sipping a cup of wine as he rests. Taking it slow. The warm fuzz is making him super relaxed. From his spot reclining against Soodi, eyes closed, Vaz raises his hand.
Excuse me Sirs, sounds like the bad man is getting a bit snarky...
Varinth mutters the word Puftand spreads his fingers out on his raised hand. Produce Flame. A little ball of flame appears in Varinths palm, crackling in the morning sun.
...Should I burn him?
Varinth is not trying to intimidate. He is in his Happy Zone and is genuinely asking a question of his colleagues.
Zoria steps out from behind Dekhan. "I mean, you won't get any respite from me. I don't know these guys very well. To be honest, I don't even know if they intend to kill you after you're done talking or if they'll let you go, but what I DO KNOW, is that it's in your best interest to speak all truth, and whole truth. If you're holding ANYTHING back from us, the halfling will know, and he does not take kindly to those that don't give him what he wants." She saunters off whistling the tune of the D&D equivalent of Humpty Dumpty.
Dario avoids taking a short rest and instead aids Vaz in finding wood and starting a fire (OOC - I would roll, but Vaz his the sweet spot with that 21). Dario also avoids the interrogation and decides to scout the around to ensure they are secure while they short rest and interrogate. While scouting around the perimeter he thinks back to a time when he used to interrogate orcs along the Misty Forest. Remembering the sounds the orcs made as he ripped their nails from their fingers or shoved hot pokers in their eyes and anuses, sends a shiver down his spine.
Perception for Scouting: 23
Dario, you find a spot where you can get a good look down upon the village. You can just about see individual houses, not enough to see people though. You pass by a few times as you circle the perimeter; you don't see anything happening down in town, and there are no dangers or passers by on the trail or near the camp either.
There was a time when the screams of the orcs in your mind might have made it hard to focus on the task at hand, but that was many years ago now.

The Redbrand listens to you Zoria, and then looks at Scupper, and seems uncertain.

I've told you everything. Almost. There are... bugbears. Three or four, I reckon. Arrived at night a few days ago. The Spider sent them, Glasstaff says. Dunno why. I don't ask questions.
And, there's the eye monster. Glasstaff made a deal with it, it guards the place. Gives me the creeps. Gives us all the creeps. Real people shouldn't be making deals with animals like that.
Are you gonna let me go? I swear I'll just leave town. I won't hurt nobody. Please.
Somehow, reality has got through to him and he's beginning to understand that his chances of living through this are small. Scupper, you think he's told you everything he knows.
That's a bit more like it lad. Cooperation makes the sailin' so much smoother dontcha tink. Now...you asked for a drink, Vaz, give the man some wine if you would...I'll be sure to help with restocking. I'm pretty sure that last bit was the full story. After that, let's gag him and tink on tings jest a bit.
So we got a wizard, fighters, bugbears, and an eye monster...whatever dat is. Should be fun but he's right, not all at once. And really though, there's jest no way the ol' Spider has any interest in running a town into the ground fer no reason...makes no sense unless the mine is nearby.
Then in a hushed tone, we should grab another maybe smarter fella and see what he knows.
Scupper, you've never heard of an 'eye' monster and can't think what that would be.
Varinth, you remember that you read a scary story once about a monster with a big eye and you were very scared but your mom said it was okay and then you had beef stew and bread for dinner and it was very nice and then you went to bed. As you're thinking about this, you absent-mindedly drop your wineskin to the ground and wander off.

OOC: Remember that time I gathered wood really well...
Zoria, you know that Cyclops exist, as do Beholders, and both are notable for their eye arrangements. Neither of them really make sense in this location, though, and you can't really be sure from the Redbrand's very vague description.
No more Arcana checks please; after the first one or two people try and fail, the DC gets very high. :)
Okay guys, you have a Redbrand at your mercy, there's no sign that the others have followed (yet) and it's getting close to noon. If you're done with the interrogation, then I think we can say that Varinth has also had a short rest. What would you like to do?

Varinth is not trying to intimidate. He is in his Happy Zone and is genuinely asking a question of his colleagues.
If Varinth starts casting spells and joins in, then he won't be completing his short rest. It's up to you which you choose.
OOC: Scratch that
Varinth snores gently.

Yeah, Dario saw some crazy shit before he left to become an adventurer. No pun intended...

Can I make an arcana or similar roll to recall if I've heard of any "eye monsters"?
Incantis, half-elf warlock (great old one) 4/bard 1 ● Thorok Earthhand, hill dwarf mountain druid 6/grave cleric 2
Cragmyre Ironseed, earth genasi ancestral barbarian 3 ● Cyrus Natriallae, aquatic half-elf warlock of the deep 3
Woken from his morning nap at hearing his name, Varinth snorts. Hmmm? Without moving he tosses the wineskin over to Scupper 3
Arcana: 6
OOC: Hopefully nobody has started the fire yet coz I probably just threw it in ;)
Arcana 7
Incantis, yes, please make an arcana check.

Incantis, monsters usually do have eyes. Why would that even be worth mentioning, right?
Zoria to the rescue! She perks up and says, "Oh eye monsters, I know this one-" I'll let Steve finish it. Arcana: 5
