OOC: Still on round 5 yet Zyltris. Brots, Serak and Syna have their turns and then I’ll update for the next round.
Unless you want me to carry this move forward to round 6?
On the map as well Syna should be directly in front of B3. Forgot he attacked with his quarterstaff previous round - updated the map now so positions should be correct
Briefly stepping out from cover behind the stone column, is determined to take out the eyepatched bugbear. He notches an arrow. Aims and releases at the beast.
Attack: 12
Eager to duck back into cover, the gnome pulls his shot wide of the target. Noticing his opponents failure, the bugbear jeers at the short archer. Pointing at his with his morningstar he bellows out, "Okaan a al dhekeraal der daaraan, o agaan khraash kekhaan gha!"
"Once I am finished with these, you are next little man!"
Almost in response to the bugbears threatening words, Serak pipes up again. "Look, friends! The fabled one-eyed monster!" Cast: Vicious Mockery Bugbear Wisdom Saving Throw: 10 Spell Save Target: 13 Damage:4 (+ D/A on next weapon attack roll)
Once more the bards insults stun the slow witted beast. Determined to come up with a decent response, he again puts his mind into action, rather than concentrating on the more important task at hand.
At the bottom of the corridor the surly voices suddenly get louder and more distinguishable. Human voices, clearly intoxicated with wines and ales, in a drunken rage. They follow the injured Bugbear as it tries to rejoin the battle.
With the corridor coming alive with activity, Syna seizes his moment. With embers flickering around his outstretched hands, the druid calls forth the element of fire, and casts its might against the bugbear in the corridor.
A bonfire explodes into life with a blast at the corner of the corridor causing everybody to stop and stare for a moment. In the centre of the blaze, the injured bugbear writhes in pain as flame licks his already broken body. The corridor glows a haunting shade of orange, filled with harrowing screams as the beast tries to escape the inferno.
OOC: A note as well, I've gone through the previous posts and double checked the total gold counts for everyone. The updated totals are in the campaign notes and take us right up to this point - including the nothic treasure but not including treasures that need to be sold. Think a couple of payments were missed along the way but this updated total should be correct now. I'll try and keep a closer eye on it from now as I know you guys will want to start upgrading or buying equipment soon. Any issues let me know sure.
OOC: Just check you’re working off the same totals. I think a few payments were missed along the way but the updated running totals are in the campaign notes if you want to update your sheets to those?
Regaining themselves after the explosion of light and heat briefly paused their clash, Beetle swings his longsword again at the Bugbear crying out, "Tyr bring peace to this creature....." He swings his sword with vengeance.
Attack: 6
The eyepatched bugbear sidesteps dodging the paladins blow, and straight into the path of Zyltris morningstar.
Attack: 24 Damage: 15
The bugbear takes the full force of Zyltris' swing. 13 The weapon dealing out a nasty gaping wound across the side of the beasts face.
At the bottom of the steps, one of the bugbears steps out of the bonfire. His skin is burnt, hair charred. Slowly he takes a couple of strides up the stone stairway and tries again to hit the druid above him with a javelin.
Cons Save throw: 6
Again the bugbears strength fails him as the pain from his injuries is too severe.
In the chaos at the top of the stairs, the eyepatched and severly wounded Bugbear (B3) aims a retaliatory blow at his opponents. Having had no luck with the chain mail armoured pair on either side, he decides to strike out the druid.
Attack roll with disadvantage: 20,21 Damage: 8
The bugbear swings his morningstar over head and smashes the weapon into Synas torso, slightly winding the druid. He roars in victor, relieved that he has finally been able to make some impact on the battle.
Brots winces as he sees Syna get hit. He readies his bow, takes aim at the bugbear that attacked Syna. "Leave Syna alone!" Brots shouts as he releases his arrow.
Attack: 25 Damage: 5
The bugbear takes an arrow full force into its chest, breaking a rib as it burst through the monsters skin.
Across the chamber, Serak is quickly running out of material. As Redbrands fill the corridor he continues yellin,"Big, tough and scary Bugbears can't fight us without help?"
Cast: Vicious Mockery Bugbear Wisdom Save: 12 Damage: 2 (+D/A on next weapon attack roll)
The bugbears injuries finally become too much as the eyepatched body falls to its knees. As the bugbear dies, its final thoughts full of the bards taunts and jests.
Down the corridor the drunken redbrands continue to advance. The first cloaked figure, drunkenly stumbles towards the bonfire. With his alcohol fueled confidence, he leaps through the flames.
The fire licks at his cloak and burns his skin as he bursts through. He screams out as his eyes meet the attackers at the end of the corridor, "AH! Dat Bernns! YOU!... Y..You KiLL..... Ma Frind!" Sword drawn he charges unsteadily towards Beetle.
Redbrand 1 Attack 1: 22 Redbrand 1 Damage: 8
Follwing through with his shortsword, the redbrand swings a backhanded blow against Zyltris, desperately trying to stay upright.
Redbrand 1 Attack 2: 8
Drunkenly swinging, the redbrand badly misses his second attack. He burps slightly and the room spins around him.
At the bottom of the staircase, the second of the redbrands isn't feeling so brave. He steadies himself against the wall, his vision blurry. He yells out to his friend as he disappears through the flames... "Bo! Ayah...... Im GO backkkk BUUHHHO!" Staggering along the wall he disappears back into the northern room and out of sight.
[OOC: I'm sorry, I thought I had posted an attack.]
Brots winces as he sees Syna get hit. He readies his bow, takes aim at the bugbear that attacked Syna. "Leave Syna alone!" Brots shouts as he releases his arrow. [OOC: COME ON DICE!] Attack: 25 Damage: 5
[OOC: Seriously, critical hit and 2 nat 1s for damage >.>]
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Synas frostbite descends into the corridor, surrounding the bugbear on the stairway.
Bugbear (B1) Constitution Saving Throw: 21 Spell Save DC: 13 Damage: 3 (+D/A next weapon attack)
Ice forms on the bugbear, infiltrating every inch of his shivering body, restricting his movement. The beast lets out a slight whimper, but struggles on nevertheless.
The northern end of the tunnel comes alive with noise as another pair of drunken redbrands stumble forward into the chamber.
OOC: just curious about the Redbrand attack, the bugbear is occuping the spot directly in front of me and Zyltris, so this would be just like before when Zyl and I would have to attack then move so the other could occupy the spot and attack...so Zyl and I should get an opportunity attack on 1 of them that vacates the spot right? Syna would probably get an opportunity attack also I think if I am right...
*****.Never mind that bugbear died and the Redbrand just ran past the other bugbear(1) cause he was throwing spears....makes it a non point...sorry***
OOC: Bit confused about what you're asking Beetle. You, Syna and Zyltris occupy the squares around the end of the corridor, you are able to attack where the bugbear was (Where the redbrand is now) without moving away or getting in each others way. I reread the rules on player positioning going into this current set of rounds, only one player can hold a 5ft square at a time. To get an opportunity attack the enemy would have to leave or pass through a square beside you without disengaging first.
If for example the redbrand (R1) decided to run through Synas square, Beetle Zyltris and Syna would get opportunity attacks. Same would happen if R1 were to retreat back down the corridor as it is leaving your 5ft reach. It's mainly the reason why B3 had to stay for so long once it had engaged you all.
At least thats how I interpreted them. Happy to take advice if its wrong though!
Edit: Don't worry its a good point to raise, and something I'm likely to miss out when I'm going through so no worries about bringing it up!
Beetle takes a decent hit from the Redbrand.....but not down and out yet he uses a bonus action to use his Hexblade's Curse (crit on 19 or 20, +2 dam, gain 4 hp when creature dies, lasts 1 min) on R1 and swings...
Attack: 21 Damage: 6
Beetle will also have shield ready to cast as a reaction to any damage he takes.
OOC: It hasn't mattered until now, but I believe Beetlejuice and Zyltris would actually be occupying the squares to their east. They would be unable to fight effectively so close to the wall. There is no penalty for fighting around corners or anything. It matters now, because as it is setup, one of the northern Redbrands could engage Syna, but Beetle should be blocking the left side of the pillar.
