Beetlejuice turns to his new friends, "Now that was a great pleasure, being in the company of such great warriors and a team that works together!" Beetle has a big grin, "We are now linked together for life, you can make acquaintances as you roam, but battle together and you are now linked for life!!"
Beetle cleans his sword and then starts inspecting the dead goblins for any coins and equipment that can be sold when they reach their destination.
"We should get the road cleared and get moving also. I did hear the war horn again in the distance and they may be more coming."
Syna: Syna turn to Beetlejuice, "Certainly they are more about, and the one which escaped shall surely bring them. And forget not, the raven let it be known that others had been taken. I think their lives be more important than a cart of goods. Let me search the area for signs, let Serek search these creatures and the horses, and you and Zyltris use or animals to pull the horses aside."
Putting action to words, Syna will return down the hill and search first the south side and then the north side for tracks.
Beetle says "Once again your wisdom prevails Syna! Yes we do need to try to at least see if there are survivors and rescue them. In our weakened state though from this battle we may need to scout things out and rest a bit before the rescue. Although the prisoners may not have such time, I guess we will make that decision when we figure out the situation."
OOC: The fleeing goblin was killed before he could run, by Synas last attack.
Beetle surveys the battlefield, examining the fallen foes. Their armour and weaponry badly damaged from the fight and barely usable. The goblins pockets are empty, save for some crumbled stale biscuit crumbs.
Synas search of the south bank finds nothing except thorns and broken branches. As he climbs the north bank, he senses that this area has been used by the goblins for some time, they have fashioned the thicket perfectly into an Archers hideaway. Then he spots a narrow trail poorly hidden behind the thicket.
The trail heads northwest away from the road and into the woods. The narrow track isn’t wide enough for the two oxen to travel on. Footprints show that this trail has been recently used, by who or what however Syna cannot tell
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zyltris works at calming the oxen as he tries to clear the debris from the road. While doing this he keeps his mind ready for another fight, hoping that no other goblins show up. He searches the horses for any sign of clues.
The overpowering smell from the horses makes Zyltris retch slightly. In the body of each horse several black feathered arrows protrude. There was obviously a large struggle on this site.
Each horse wears a thick leather saddle, letters emblazoned on them in gold. On one: G.R, on the other S.H. The saddlebags themselves have been completely looted. Not far away on the road lies an empty leather mapcase and a scattering of stray coins (14cp). Nothing of any value remains and it’s obvious these horses have blocked this road for a day or more. The smell of death hangs heavy in the air.
Helping with the bodies, Beetle ties rope around the horses while Zyltris pulls them to the roadside with the oxen. Two dark red streaks, smeared from the dusty road to the forest edge. The valley is silent now.
Beetle ponders the situation for a moment "So I guess we are going to have to make a choice my friends. I do not think we will be able to take the oxen and cart with us if we pursue the goblin camp in a rescue mission. We are also in a semi-weakened state at the moment with out a rest stop. So either we abandon our current job of delivering this cart or we deliver it, which should take the rest of today, maybe find out who owned the horses and the taken men were working for, we have a clue with the embroidered saddle bags, rest quick and head out 1st thing tomorrow after this goblin camp."
OOC: It was approx a half days journey when we started out so assuming the scouting, the fog movement and the battle took an hour or so, I'm sure we can still make it in this same day, but need official confirmation from the DM
OOC: I’d make it about half a days journey to Phandalin. The ambush site is about 13 miles away from the town. You have about 4 hours of full daylight left. At a regular walking speed you would arrive in Phandalin just after sunset
[OOC: Regular walking speed, but we have a loaded wagon pulled by oxen, so I am guessing a little longer. I think we are to small a party to split up, so we need to decide. Syna would vote for following the goblins.]
Beetle stands with the others with a look of confusion on his face, the situation seems to bring him a great deal of uncomfort. “It is against my principals as a paladin to accept a contract and then just disregard it for another adventure.....” Beetle sighs, “but is is also against my nature as a paladin to just ignore there maybe people in danger that I could possibly help.”
Beetle pauses and thinks a moment, “I do believe in this party of adventurers though, almost as if it was formed and brought together by a higher calling that has a specific mission for us. Therefore due to these principals I cannot choose one path or the other but because of my trust in the group I will abide by the decision the 3 of you make”

Serak: Patching the wound in his chest as best he can, Serak finally speaks. "Well fought my brave companions!
Medicine: 11
After surveying the area a moment, "These horses belonged to our employer Gundred Rockseeker and his escort. They were taken, not killed, so the goblins must want them for some dark purpose. Likely having something to do with the dig site and the secrets it holds."
Thinking over the situation, the weary bard says, "We're in no condition to face the war party that is likely descending upon us as we speak, unless we can come up with a plan to ambush them.
"I suggest we travel to the dig site before dark. We can relieve ourselves of the burden of this cart, report what has taken place, rest and set out fresh at dawn."

Syna doesn't look happy with the situation. "I believe time is of the essence. Surely, the goblins have evil deeds in their hearts. Even if they do not kill the unfortunates, they will certainly torture them for fun, if not for information. We should follow as quickly as caution allows."
With the group split between following the goblins and continuing to town, Zyltris stands quietly beside the party with the deciding vote. The night will soon be closing in, with every passing second their eyes grow heavier, their potential quarry further away.
Sympathizing with the plight of their employer, Serak makes another suggestion.
"We do have time to set a effective ambush for the approaching war party. I can put at least one of them into a deep slumber while we deal with the rest. We can interrogate him after the battle and learn exactly what we're likely to face, should we make a rescue attempt "

"That could work," Beetle says, "more info on the goblin camp will be very useful."
With that said Beetle also looks up to the sky, speaks a few words ending with "thank you Tyr" and uses Lay Hands on himself to heal the 4 missing hp's.
OOC: I'd say save the spell slot for the ambush. A short rest might waste valuable time. So long as Serak stays back and behind cover he should be fine.

Zyltris ponders quietly and eventually decides he is on board with Serak’s plan. “I am, however, concerned that the presence of an ox cart so near this trail will tip off anyone approaching, there’s ruining our ambush. Perhaps I should take this cart back the way we came a bit and tie it off there. This may throw off the war party enough to grant us the surprise we may need. This goblin battle was tough and I’m sure the next will be even more so in our weakened state.”
