Serak: Serak takes steady aim and fires his crossbow at Z1. Hoping to lead a few zombies away, Serak then moves south and then east as far as possible, taking cover behind the outermost wall.

With bonus action Beetle places Hex Blades's Curse(Against the cursed target, you gain a 2bonus to damage rolls, score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20, and you regain +4 HP if it dies.) on Z2 and swings at it casting Green-Flame blade
Attack: 23 Damage: 10 on a hit Green Flame jumps to Z1 for 3 damage.

Slowly being surrounded by undead, Beetle calls upon his inner demonic force to get to work. A curse descends over the creature before him as it chomps its teeth together in vain. With Talon in hand, Beetle prepares to attack. A sudden flash of green fills the air as the paladins blade slices through the undeads torso.
Attack: 21 Damage: 12
Green Flame Blade: 3 onto Z1
A wide blackened gash is opened in the zombies loose skin exposing a mush of innards inside. Green embers of flame leap out as the sword swings away, landing on the lead zombie setting its tattered shirt alight.
Seeing the hoard begin to encircle the paladin, Serak rises from his covered position and aims his crossbow at the nearest zombie. He fires a bolt across the courtyard, hoping to draw some of them away from his friends.
Attack: 9 Damage: 6
The bolt sails into the flesh of the leading zombies back, catching it as it turns towards Brots. The long dead human turns once more, this time towards Serak as the bard leaps away towards the south east corner. Scraping its dead leg across the loose stone floor, the zombie slowly gives chase.
The hoard moves once more. With a new target in sight, the lead zombie (Z1) reaches its arms outward and shuffles after the fleeing bard.
Beetle Opportunity Attack: 19 Damage: 12
Charging forwards, the undead fails to notice the damage done to it by Beetles flailing longsword. A deep gorge sliced through its back, exposing the spine beneath. The creature stumbles forwards, chasing its newest prey.
The second zombie staggers sideways through the courtyard, trying to get a better angle to bite out at Beetle. As it repositions, Zyltris sees an opportunity to strike. He swings his morningstar at the cursed creature.
Zyltris Opportunity Attack: 11 Damage: 11
Fortitude Constitution Save:16 Save DC: 5+6=11
A second zombie takes a smashing blow to the skull, and again remains standing. The elfs morning star leaves a hole in the back of the zombies skull but the beast takes no notice.Again it throws itself at the paladin, its eyes turning a deep black as the demons curse takes hold.
Zombie (Z2) Attack Roll: 13
The weak attack is easily beaten away by a strong arm of Beetle. A hiss escapes the zombies rotten mouth, enveloping its opponent in its foul smelling breath.
Charred remains of the third zombie, finally drags itself out of the crumbled tower. With its skull barely in tact, it staggers forwards, aimlessly reaching outwards for Zyltris, with its blackened orc arms.
Zombie (Z3) Attack Roll: 22 Damage: 6
The long dead orc sinks its teeth into Zyltris chain mail. Teeth and metal splinter as the beast shakes what's left of its head violently, struggling to find the taste of blood.
The hoard inside the tower pushes through the passageway in the broken wall. A fourth undead pushes through without any real plan of where it's heading. Lurching forwards its goblinoid body finds itself wedged between the two chain clad soldiers. Fresh meat! It reaches out towards Beetle with its long dark green fingers.
Zombie (Z4) Attack Roll: 18
Beetle raises his arm once more and slaps the disgusting creature away with the back of his hand.
Inside the tower, Syna vines pull tightly at the entrapped undead. Angered groans fill the tower as they struggle to free themselves.
With a lurch one of the zombies manages to free itself, at the cost of the skin on one of its legs. The other flails helplessly, tying itself up more as it struggles to break free.
The party watch in horror as another Zombie spills out of the crowded tower. It charges headfirst towards Zyltris trying to push him over.
Stumbling through the rubble, the zombie simply bounces off the elf, much to great amusement. Turning his attention through the hole in the tower wall, Zyltris sees that there are still more zombies inside. Another three creatures have appeared from the shadows and now pound against the walls trying to escape.
OOC: I saw the opportunity attack on Z1 but I think I should have gotten one on Z3 also, it was in range, I could have targeted it on my turn but moving towards Zyl it moved out of my range so I think I would have had an opp. attack on it. I could be wrong though....but I assumed basically any zombie that comes out of the tower would give me an opp. attack from where I am positioned because they have to get into my range to get out of the tower and then move away to attack others..
OOC: You're correct about that - Z3 definately would have given you an AoO.
But opportunity attacks count as reactions and you would only get one of those per round.
You're right to assume, to be honest it's probably my fault because I'm sure there have been a couple of times where I've given them before in the campaign when I shouldn't have, or given multiple reactions in a turn. For example if you've raised your shield as a reaction that round and then also had an AoO. Just trying to tighten up the combat rules now and seeing where we've been going wrong before!
Zyltris is in the same boat with his AoO ON Z2.
Edit - You could in fact make two opportunity attacks in a round - provided that you didn't make one the previous/next turn and you made them either side of your turn.
Like, (Provided you didn't use a reaction since your last turn), if a zombie stepped away from you - you get an opportunity attack. Then you take your action as normal. You can then use another reaction before your next action. If that makes sense? I'm not doing a good job of explaining this one.
Generally we should have been playing as one reaction per turn - sorry if I've misled you on that
OOC: ok that makes sense then I never realized you can only have 1 opportunity attack per round, good to know. Does make sense though or it would be kind of over powered....
OOC: Yeah exactly. It'd be unrealistic to assume that zombies pour out of the tower and Beetle and Zyltris just blend them all up with their swords over the course of 6 seconds lol.
Hadn't really thought about it before but I've done alot of reading up on the combat rules since the last time we had a good scrap and corrected alot of mistakes in my head that we were probably guilty of.
I think we've improved dramatically since we've started this little campaign. Hopefully should have all the kinks worked out by the time we get to the end!

Seeing the zombie approach, Syna readies an attack of his own. Extending his arm towards his target, the elfs fingers twitch with cold. A moment later, a wave of freezing air blasts across the courtyard.

As the zombie staggers forwards, the icy wave narrowly misses. As the monster gets closer, Syna spots a shining golden coin hanging from its neck, baring the face of the goddess Tymora surrounded by shamrocks.
OOC: To keep things moving I'll take Brots turn for this round.
Brots, seeing his angles of attack get smaller, leaps over the wall and charges forwards, bow in hand. As he runs he lets an arrow fly at the nearly headless zombie biting into Zyltris arm (Z3)
The arrow smashes into the zombies shoulder as it chomps wildly at the elfs armour. While the impact is not enough to down the zombie, its force pushes him away from Zyltris. Allowing the elf to get a clean swing.
With his arms free once more, Zyltris raises his morningstar. As the adrenaline pumps through his veins he swings at the almost headless orc as it staggers backwards.
Attack: 18 (You had advantage here as well from Seraks Faerie Fire - although you didn't need it this time) Damage: 8
With a sickening crack, the spiked ball cleaves what remained of the orcs skull cleanly off its body. The beast falls to the floor and convulses before finally falling silent. Without a second though, Zyltris swings his weapon once more, this time towards the goblin zombie struggling to grab Beetle.
Attack: 14 (Advantage Again - 21) Damage: 5
The goblin absorbs the hit as the morningstar smashes into its back. A thin splatter of blood bounces back towards the elf as he pulls his weapon free.
The tent door flies open suddenly, revealing the shape of a stout, red robed human with sallow skin. His scalp is shaved cleanly with a black tattoo on his forehead - a diamond with a horn on each side, a small cross in the middle. Half asleep, he trips over his robe as he steps into the foray, panic stricken and upset. "Wh... Wh... What is the meaning of this?"
OOC: Lmao. You are far too keen! Give me a sec to sort out this round map. He has initiative before you though!
ROUND 3
Beetle:
Brots, Serak, Syna, Zyltris:
OOC: Notes for this round. The wizard will be working off Beetles map as he doesn't have darkvision. As a result he's unlikely to spot Syna and Serak unless they move into the light or attack. The dome of the tent will also give him full cover, the tent doorway (NE corner) gives 1/2 cover.
They hunt and persecute magic users that aren't them. I even have them written in under Enemies on my sheet. lol They are so well known in Faerun though, that I imagine the whole party would recognize one.

He casts Green-flame blade and brings his sword forward saysing, "Tyr this is getting a bit crazy, we could use your help now more than ever..." and strikes
Attack: 9 Damage: 7 on a hit Green Flame jumps to the wizard for 3 damage
Choosing to ignore the wizard, Beetle continues his struggle with the goblin zombie clawed at his face (Z2). Once more Talon shines brightly with a green flame and roars as it swings through the air. Beetle calls out to his lord once more,"Tyr this is getting a bit crazy, we could use your help now more than ever..."
A bright green flash fills the courtyard as flames burst across the goblins body. The zombie falls to the ground in a pile of charred remains while green embers lick at the wizards cloak. Beetle suddenly feels rejuvinated as his foe falls, Tyr has blessed him once more with this small victory.
Beetle HP Gain: +4
The wizard pats the flame away, burning his finger slightly as he does so. He pleads to his attackers, "No! PLEASE STOP THIS INSANITY!" He reaches out a hand to Zyltris beside him and calls out an incantation, "Uh... FULGUR AITISAL?"
Mage Attack Roll: 16 (Advantage against Metal Armour)
Sparks fly out from the wizards hand causing him to jump and pull his arm away. Frustrated the man curses to himself, "Ow! No that wasn't right!"
