As the dust settles again in the darkness of the cave, Brots steadies his bow arm. From the shadows, the shape of the ogre emerges once more, shining brightly with a blue glow. With his quarry in sight, the gnome releases another arrow.
Attack: 24 (Plus Faerie Fire Adv: 11) Damage: 5 Extra Damage if hit: 5
Another angry roar fills the passageway as Brots perfectly placed arrowhead punctures into the giants shoulder. Grasping for the wound, the ogre snap the wooden shaft cleanly, throwing it aside with rage.
The wind howls once more into the cave, followed by a wintery chill as Syna sends forth winters wrath. Outside, the druids outstretched arms flick simultaneously, as he controls the breeze towards his target.
Ogre Constitution Save: 9 Spell Save DC: 13
Swirling around the ogre, the wintery wind turns dangerously cold. With a quick shiver of his own, Beetle watches as the beast simply beats the wind away with a single huge hand. Another tremor rumbles in the cavern walls as the ogre stomps a heavy foot into the ground.
As Zyltris prepares himself to charge forwards, the ghostly elven maiden again caresses his face. With her gentle kiss, he charges forwards once more. A pulse of healing energy emanating through him.
Emerging once more into the mouth of the cave, Serak holds his goblin bow in hand. With an arrow already prepared, he looks out for the nearby orc and, noticing its recent demise, aims at the lumbering ogre instead. His bow fingers quickly release, sending the shaft sailing through the air.
Attack: 24 Damage: 9
Whistling past Zyltris' ear, the arrow soars towards its target. With a loud thump the arrow plunges into the ogres chest, sticking out awkwardly as the beast staggers awkwardly away from the blow. Throwing his arms up in anger, the ogre steadies himself for the another wave of attacks.
Morningstar drawn, Zyltris struggles to find a position from which to attack the penned in ogre. With the passageway blocked by the already engaged Beetle and the boulder beside him, the elf simple cannot find space in which to get close enough.
Unaware of Zyltris problem, Beetle stands toe to toe with the towering beast. With a bellowing voice he calls out, stabbing Talon forwards with intense fury. "Tyr, this one is larger than usual bring be strength to subdue it!!!!"
Attack: 16 Damage: 8
Plunging his sword deep into the giants belly, Beetle growls out once more, "Tyr smite this foe", quickly draws his blade at an angle slicing the ogre across its middle.
Diving Smite Damage: 4
As the ogre collapses into a heap at his feet, Beetle suddenly senses a divine feeling wash over him. Tyr is good. Tyr has blessed his blade once more, and for that the paladin is truly thankful. Turning back to face the others, Beetle wipes his brow, finally noticing Zyltris behind him. The ceiling above continues to groan precariously, badly damaged from the raging ogre.
OOC: Nice combat guys. Sorry Zyltris, realised far too late that there was no space for you to run into, but by that stage Beetle had got enough damage rolled to end it anyway.
You'll get 230 xp each for the 8 orcs and the ogre.
Zyltris and Serak I'll give you inspiration points as well for the opening gambit - Destroying a local monument and jumping off a cliff, not exactly what I was expecting!

Serak: Serak looks on in stunned silence as Beetle calls down holy fury upon the Ogre, finally bringing down the brute. As the beast collapses with an earthshaking thud, the bard jumps slightly and cheers, "Hazzah! The beast is dead! A decisive victory, my friends! They didn't stand a chance!"
Serak examines the corpses as he enters the cave. Satisfied with his looting, he says, "There may still be danger within. Let's enter together and be on the lookout for traps."

"Yes lets make sure this place is clear, but move cautiously, I would say stealthy but you know....armor and all..." Beetle chuckles a bit and begins moving forward with Serak and the others. Just before moving Beetle also clutches the holy symbol that hangs from his neck and gives a thanks to Tyr for helping once again defeat their foes.
As the bright blue glow of the ogre fades, Serak gracefully slides his way down the stony slope into the passageway. With the others following behind, the party gathers a small hoard of coins from the scattering of bodies, amounting to 15gp, 10sp, 32cp(3 gold, 2 silver, 7 copper each). Carefully clambering over the bulky corpse of the dead ogre, the party head deeper into the cave.
Brots, Serak, Syna Zyltris:
As the steadily sloping passageway evens out, the darkness becomes all encompassing. The uneasily silent cave occasionally broken by the sound of dripping water, the squeak of a bat or the groan of old stone. Relying on their darkvision, Brots, Serak, Syna and Zyltris follow the tunnel northwards, stumbling upon the orcs dwelling. Eight bedrolls lie sprawled around the wide cavern, with a heap of straw dumped unceremoniously along a parting wall. A huge great club, presumably that of the ogres, lies beside the stack. The orcs have clearly been camped here for some time, with evidence of their misdeeds all around. A small stack of crates are piled along a wall to the south, while two small chests lie nestled into two similarly sized alcoves. On one wall, Brots spots the words, "SHUM BAUZ" carved deeply into the stone. Beneath it several other words etched or scratched in the wall, all different in their own way, "Gortwog, MOG, oGZor, Ulghesh, Budgul, Gartosuha, BRUGHOR." A final marking is inellegible, more of a heavy club smash in the granite.
Beetle:
As the steadily sloping passageway evens out, the darkness becomes all encompassing. The uneasily silent cave occasionally broken by the sound of dripping water, the squeak of a bat or the groan of old stone. Unable to see in the dark, Beetles other senses take over. The air around him seems less stifled in here where he assumes the passageway opens up. As the others move on northwards, Beetle struggles to keep pace, stumbling through the impenetrable dark. Despite his disorientation, a calmness comes over him. His inner darkness is at peace here, surrounded by nothing but black, it is truly at home. The dark inner voice, which has been silent for so long, speaks to him again, "Well my friend. It's been a while, but don't think I've forgotten about you. You seem happy to call on me for help, but yet give me nothing in return... hardly fair I think?"
Zyltris breathes a sigh of relief that his group was able to heal him. “I do not know what came over me when I leaped off the cliff! That could have been disastrous!”
Serak: Finding the rest of the cave empty, Serak lets out a sigh of relief and says, "It seems safe now, friends. Let us search this place. I suspect these orcs were in the employ of The Black Spider. There may be some clue that can lead us to him or the Cragmaw."
The Bard casts Detect Magic as a ritual and searches the cave for treasure and clues.

"Not all those who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien
"Yes I do call, and you always answer...and soon you will be aiding me even more demon." Beetle quietly says to the fiend knowing soon he will have the power of Devil's Sight and darkness will never be a problem again. "You will continue to help me more than you know demon....I can feel you creeping, but until you can stop me from bending your will to the goals Tyr sets for me, your powers are mine to command for the greater good."
Beetle tries to find his friends but they seem to be nowhere...he calls out..."Hey Syna can you make one of those nifty Bonfires, I can't see shit in this place."
Helplessly running a hand along the cold stone as he stumbles further into the cave, Beetle suddenly feels a sudden blast of cold run through him. A deafening roar fills the paladins mind as the demon yells responds, "WE SHALL SEE WHO COMMANDS THE POWER MORTAL! YOU SHALL BEG FOR MY AID LONG BEFORE I YOURS..."The voice echoes loudly in Beetles head, before slowly disappearing with the cold. For the first time in a long time, he feels a weight has lifted from him. An empty feeling grows within, where darkness once lurked.
Brots, Serak, Syna and Zyltris:
In the darkness of the empty cavern the party busy themselves searching for clues of the Black Spiders involvement. The orc camp is more of a scout post than anything. Despite having been here a long time, the warriors camped here don't seem to have kept many material possessions or belongings. A selection of worthless broken weapons lie scattered in the forgotten corners of the chamber. The crates themselves are unmarked, full of supplies plundered from travellers on the Triboar Trail - long stale and rotting. Zyltris disappears momentarily opening one of the chests which to his surprise remains unlocked. Inside, he finds the orcs stash of treasure - 30gp, 62ep, 180sp and 750cp (16gp, 13sp each). Meanwhile, Syna manages to pry open the other chest, finding a varied collection of arrow heads within. At the bottom of the chest, the only items of any real value - 3 vials of perfume.
As the party returns into the light Serak, having found no evidence of magic or the Black Spider, struggles to hide his disappointment. The cave holds no secrets that he can see. Just a regular cave, infested with regular orcs.
With a sudden blast of heat, a bonfire bursts into life within the darkness of the cave. Finally able to see, Beetle takes in his surroundings. To one side of the wide cavern, a heap of straw lies unceremoniously, a huge great club resting close by. Eight orc sized bedrolls sit scattered around the room. Along the south wall, a small stack of unmarked crates filled with stale and rotted supplies - supposedly pilfered from travellers and farmers along the Triboar Trail. On one wall the etched words that Brots had found, "SHUM BAUZ", followed by others below in a variety of styles, "Gortwog, MOG, oGZor, Ulghesh, Budgul, Gartosuha, BRUGHOR." Beetle also spots two chests, lying open in the chamber, although judging by the look on Syna and Zyltris faces they had spotted these first.
The firelight flickers as the bonfire continues to burn. With no natural chimney, the cavern gradually fills with smoke, before it slowly follows the passageway back towards the open air.
Brots looks up toward the sky and lets out a whistle. Calling Lucas back down to him. As he lands on Brots's arm, he feeds Lucas a couple pieces off his meat rations, stroking the back of him. "Good boy, you did a great job!"
Serak: Shaking his head, Serak answers, "I count seven slain orcs here, plus the guard we dispatched earlier. That makes eight."
Absently stroking his goatee, the bard ponders what to do next. Finally, he says, "This camp just seems to be an out post for a larger force. I can't imagine these eight alone convinced an Ogre to work for them."
"There may be a trail leading to a larger camp. Let us search the surrounding hills for tracks. Ogres leave big footprints."
