Zyltris looks towards Syna and Beetle then back at the Redbrand. "It seems he wants to deal with a little of the bad cop, doesn't he friends? Listen here Maccius. You'll tell us what we want to know. I don't care if you claim to not fear death. I too have no fear for the end. Pain, however, is a much better motivation for giving up information." The blade on a handaxe grazes along the skin on Maccius neck. "I trust you have family and friends that would not look to kindly at a deformed face. Tell us where the Redbrands are and their capabilities. One chance or I begin using your face and neck as a whetstone for my blade."5

"You don't have the gall elfman. And any way, I could do with a good shave so come ahead if that's what yer planning. Pathetic. End this charade and either kill me or let me go. Time's running out either way" The redbrand laughs loudly, then starts yelling, "Here I'll speed things up a little. HELP! I'M IN HERE!"

Brots:
Brots searches through the crates carefully. Apples, apples and more apples, all boxed up and ready for shipment to Yartar according to the paperwork. No threat here then. From the next room the redbrand can be heard yelling out again, this time in anger.

Zyltris backhands Maccius and digs the handaxe into his neck. A thin red line appears on Maccius' neck as blood drips down his skin. Zyltris' eyes show he is not happy with what he is doing but realizes he must continue. "I can continue this as long as you'd like!" 6

The redbrand just continues to laugh. "Is that the worst yiz can do? Haha, bring that gnome back. I'm sure he's more of a worthy adversary than you four cretins. Let me go. Yer just delaying this place turning to ashes."
Serak:
Waiting in the shed, Serak shakes himself to stay awake. The afternoon is wearing on. The excitement from the earlier brawl has since dissipated and town life slowly returns to normal. The eastern road remains quiet. Of all the roads in the town it is the one most seldom used by townsfolk. Those that venture that way either enter a nearby doorway or turn around realizing their mistake.
Beetle, realizing that this is going no where and banishing evil from this plane is one thing but torture is another decides it is time to end it, he looks up and says, "May Tyr bring you peace in the afterlife, watch over this lost soul as I send him to you!"
Attack: 25 Damage: 10
(I figured since it was a mercy killing and he was tied I would get advantage and an auto crit, but if not let me know I will re-roll.)
After, Beetle turns to his companions, "I am sorry friends but torture is not in my lifestyle. I gave it a chance but it seems we were not going to get anything from him. We know where the Redbrands are already lets go finish this and free this town."
The harsh laughter is suddenly silenced by Beetles longsword. With the floor slowly turning red Linene looks up, slightly shocked "Well.... now he wasn't exactly as helpful as I'd thought. The Redbrands are a stubborn bunch and the gang mentality obviously runs deep. He was but a boy when I'd last seen him but obviously somewhere along the line he has lost his way. Such a promising lad, but... well that's that. Beetle would you be so kind but to remove the boy from here? I need to get back to my store." Linene heads back upstairs to the shopfront, quietly contemplating what she has just witnessed.
Brots:
From the next room a loud angry laugh is suddenly silenced. A short moment later, Linene reemerges from the doorway. Propping herself against the counter she speaks softly to Brots. "He told us very little I am afraid. Turns out I'd known the boy.... imagine..... I hope Riardon wasn't too much trouble" She cracks a weak smile, before falling silent again.
Beetle says,”I will take the body out back and see about stashing it, then I need to head to the shrine and pray. You guys fill Brots and Serak in on what has happened and I will meet you in about an hour and a half at the inn. Then from there we can go finish this Redbrand mess if all are agreeable.” With that Beetle takes the body and leaves.
Zyltris gives Linene 2 gp to aid in cleaning up the mess created by the death of Maccius. He looks distraught over what he did and gathers himself before saying, "Let's head out to find the others. Linene, I do sincerely apologize for the mess."
Brots gets up and leans toward Linene. Seeing the unease on her face and in her voice he attempts to cheer her up. "Listen Linene, I know you haven't known me long, but I know the pain when someone you've known for so long isn't who you once thought they were. I also know how it feels when you lose an acquaintance." Brots places a hand on Linene's hand. "It does get easier, but it never goes away. I just hope it doesn't stay this way for long."
OOC: That got dark pretty fast. You’ve shocked me a bit there Beetle. His dice rolls were constitution saves, the dice just wasn’t prepared to let him give in
OOC: well I figure a paladin is for justice, so for the crimes the man caused Beetle could justify killing him, not because he took pleasure in it but because it was justice served. He couldn’t justify torturing him himself or really watching as the torture dragged out longer.
[OOC: Killed the guy? While probably not necessary to kill him, Tyr is The God of Justice. If the man's crimes warranted a death sentence, Tyr would approve. It wasn't exactly lawful, but because the law in this town is obviously corrupt, a trial would not be true justice. In this case I could see how a swift painless death was the best choice to achieve justice.

Beetle makes his way to the shrine, once there he sets himself in front of the alter and kneels. With his holy symbol out he begins...
“Tyr, you are the god of justice, law, and oaths, You who sacrificed your hand for the greater good You who stands for the just and the righteous I ask you to grant me justice for what is right Justice for what is good Justice that is needed And victory as is deserved I ask for oaths and agreements to be upheld And if not, then may what is due come. With your blessing, may what is right and best Come to pass.
He then continues...."Tyr, it was a rough day. I don't enjoy taking life, but I do feel justice should be served when it is due. Please watch over this soul I sent to you this day, it was misguided and needs a path to follow that I believe only you can provide. I have also felt the demonic powers inside me swelling lately but I have been able to bend them to our will and use them to deal our justice and eradicate evil. Please watch over me and my companions I feel we are on a perilous path and will need guidance."
After Beetle sits and meditates a while before starting off to join the others.
With the body disposed of Linene opens the shutters to the store and unbars the rest of the doors. As she opens the back door she screams. A human figure dressed in a red cloak is standing there waiting to gain entry. Stepping slowly inside he withdraws his hood, revealing his half-elven face. Serak stands smiling broadly as his cunning disguise.
Beetle:
Upon finishing his prayer Beetle hears a quiet cough from behind him. The paladin turns around quietly. A tall fair haired elf stands before him, she blushes as he spots her. "I am so sorry my lord. It is rude for me to do so but I couldn't but to overhear your prayer. The goddess Tymora wants you to know that she will be watching over you in your struggle." She reaches out her hand and holds out a single silver coin, offering it to Beetle. Etched into it the face of a goddess, surrounded by six shamrocks. "For luck. I watched your quarrel from the sanctuary of the shrine. Thankyou for defeating those Redbrands. Tymora and Phandalin are forever thankful."
“Thank you very much...um....sorry I don’t know your name, but thank you. Tyr is my god but I am sure I can use the luck of your god as well the way this day is going. Name is Beetlejuice, Paladin of Tyr.” Beetle looks over the elf, “Do the Redbrands cause trouble even here, at the shrine? My companions will be trying to put a stop to them completely if things go well.”
"Not at the shrine itself sir no. It is merely a few old stones thrown together so it goes largely unnoticed but by the faithful, Tymora be praised. I am Sister Garaele." The young elf curtsey's slightly, "My pleasure to meet you Sir Beetle. I wish you good fortune in your conquest of the Redbrand brotherhood. I will pray for you and your companions." Sister Garaele reaches for a coin of her own that hangs on an elegant necklace. She raises it to her lips and kisses it lightly, smiling at the paladin. "May the lady bless your path and luck be for you."
”Thank you sister any blessing will help. You wouldn’t be able to cure would you, I spent my healing ability for the day on my companion but I still have some minor damage. Also you wouldn’t happen to know anything useful about the Redbrands would you? I know they are using the mansion as a hideout but if there is anything else about them or the hideout o know it will be useful.”
