anything going on up here: futile perception check 17
Sure thing. But we'll put a pin in that, until Barnaby is satisfied that he's ready. I doubt he knows Celestial, or whatever, but when last we left him, he was holding the locket. I want to make sure he's done.
Barnaby will hand over the gold to the headmistress. Here, I will leave this with you to decide if Miloslavajovanovich should get it back. If not, it should be used for the orphanage. The locket, on the other hand, I don't think should be left here. With your permission, I will take it with us and attempt to gain an understanding of its properties.
Either way, Barnaby will thank the headmistress, and follow Kif.
Ok. I will move the party to the second floor. It's not a proper Roll20 map, and I hope you will forgive me for not sealing off rooms. Suffice it to say that, though you see the floor plan, you do not actually know what is in each room.
The second floor hallway has six different doors, most of which are left wide open. Only the single door at the north end of the hall is closed. There’s also a hatch on the ceiling at the southern end of the room. The hallway’s only window on the southern wall is broken and boarded up.
With your 17 Perception, Kif, you notice that the handiwork of the boarding up of the window appears both recent and sloppy.
The hatch to whatever lies above is in this hallway, near the boarded up window?
If the woman is still hanging about at the bottom of the stairs Ma'am, what happened to this window, and what's on the floor above this, some sort of attic
Do you want to have a close look at the window and go down and ask? Anyone who wishes to study the window for clues about what happened there may roll an Investigation check.
There are marks around the windowsill consistent with clawing fingernails.
Kif, after going downstairs to ask the headmistress about it, learns that a 12 year old boy named Cedrik fell to his death out of this window. Just 5 days earlier. He shouldn't have been playing by the window, she says.
Good question. Barnaby, based on the location of the marks (inside the frame) and their shape and character, would guess that it was someone trying to stay in.
Based on the location of the claw marks, along the lower edges and especially the bottom, and based on your 21 investigation, you would guess someone trying to stay in.
Føpé, not having the knack for investigative stuff, starts looking for a child to adopt who might make a suitable addition to the team, perhaps one of the older children who may be strong and fast.

Did she allow Barnaby to keep the locket?
Sorry. Yes.
If this is some kind of magic and some kind of evil, I don't care much to have it here in my office.

OMG I actually perceived something

Investigation: 21
There are marks around the windowsill consistent with clawing fingernails.
Kif, after going downstairs to ask the headmistress about it, learns that a 12 year old boy named Cedrik fell to his death out of this window. Just 5 days earlier. He shouldn't have been playing by the window, she says.
Barnaby, are those claw marks something trying to get out the window or trying to get or stay in?
If the previous investigation check can't answer Kif's question, then Nature: 19
Good question. Barnaby, based on the location of the marks (inside the frame) and their shape and character, would guess that it was someone trying to stay in.
Bottom sill like holding on as falling, or sides like trying to stay in while being forced out?
Based on the location of the claw marks, along the lower edges and especially the bottom, and based on your 21 investigation, you would guess someone trying to stay in.
Was there anyone with the boy when he fell out?
It’s not your sense that anybody would know for sure. Madam Belasco does not know.
OK, so we can CSI this thing, but Kif is going to do a quick look into the rooms with open doors
