Anafrey would look to Ebokk and shake some of the blood and from the end of her flail. "Getting you that beard ring was a pain in the ass. We are so close to finishing our mission... I wasn't going to let anything get in our way." She would say with a grin to the dwarf before turning and looking off towards land.
Erric looks at Anafrey with a bit of shock and horror, but he still sees that Scrub is potentially a threat, and so while he is cowering, Erric scurries over to attempt to tie him up tightly, with his rope, accepting help from Ebokk or Maldorn, but a little worried Anafrey will be overly forceful. If Ebokk helps him tie up Scrub, he'll ask Maldorn to try looking for Grout, suggesting throwing a rope overboard so he can be retrieved and tied up.
As Jambiya high steps it bellow deck, Erric grabs up a piece of rope and ties Scrub's hands. (Are you still concentrating on the ghost?) The sailor doesn't put up a fight. He seems to know his goose is cooked.
Ebokk gives Anafrey a nervous smile, then walks to the center of the ship and looks around. "We've still got to dock," he says, looking at colorful coast, which is quickly becoming discernible as Waterdeep. "And we have no crew."
"Well I hope Gramps is okay and can at least tell us what to do,"Erric says to Ebokk, and after he has Scrub tied up, he runs over to where Grout went overboard and tries to help Maldorn look for him, and throw a rope if they spot him.
Maldorn helps Erric tie up Scrub, making sure to say something like: "Help get us to land and you may yet be allowed to live, traitorous scum." The old ranger is trying to sound more irritated than he actually is.
Once that is done with, he nods at the halfling in agreement with yet another one of his great suggestions. He moves to the spot where Grout was last seen and surveys the water in search of the man while letting Erric act as an additional set of eyes and ears.
"Tell me where you need me Ebokk, and I'll help get this ship docked." She would say with a smile, seeming to ignore the bright red drops splattered against her platinum colored hair. "it is good to see Waterdeep again." She would add as she moves to assist in manning the ship in any way she can.
Jambiya, you're looking and looking, even calling out to the old sailor, but you're having trouble finding him. You're beginning to entertain thoughts that the other sailors might have done something to him. (Roll again!)
Erric and Maldorn, Scrub sniffs. "I'm not gonna do nothin' bad. I didn't wanna do nothin' bad. Don't hurt me, please." He looks over at the bodies of the twins and sniffs again before closing his eyes. You then move to the bow of the ship and look over and then realize the ship is moving forward at a pretty good clip, so Grout wouldn't be up here anymore.
Anafrey, Ebokk looks at you, then Scrub, then up at the sails. "I ... I think we can do it." He grins self-consciously. "I guess we'll have to." He looks at Scrub again and appears to be deliberating.
(Can I at least have Erric do an intelligence check to see if he'd really have been dumb enough to forget the ship was moving and thus run to the bow of the ship to find him? Maldorn too? I'd like to think we'd have looked where he'd likely have been left off a moving ship!)
Erric, it's not so much an intelligence thing. It's only been about six seconds. Or maybe 12. Plus, if you think he's still alive, he could have been clinging to the side of the ship. But he isn't. I'm moving in short increments of time right now instead of larger swatches, which is usually the case when out of combat. Keep moving!
Jambiya, you pause in your searching around in the main hold and hear a slight tapping sound up near the front of the ship where your cabin, the washroom, and Eilikasys's cabin are. (Again, small increments.)
Satisfied with not finding Grout hanging from the ship or coming up for air, Maldorn turns and collects the two arrows that he can find which look reusable (he shot four in total during this fight).
While doing so, he makes sure to keep an eye on both Scrub and Ebokk. To the dwarf, he poses a question. The ranger seems to now be fully in tune with their benefactor's name, following his short-lived but scarring death experience (the party would have noticed this during the week or so that took us to travel back to Waterdeep's vicinity): "So Master Ebokk, can you get us to land? Grubs here is more than willing to help, I'd wager, and Jambiya ran downstairs yelling form Grams, so we might have just enough sailors here to do the job."
Jambiya, you rush to the front of the boat, pause, hear the tapping come from the cabin to the right, and pull the door open. On the floor is Gramps, bound and gagged.
Maldorn, Ebokk is also looking at Scrub as if sizing him up. "I hope so," he replies. "And, what of bosun Grout?"
Erric, you run from point to point along the rail, even moving from port to starboard and back, until you climb the ladder to the quarterdeck and look within the ship's wake. You don't see bosun Grout anywhere, alive or dead.
"Either dead or in the process of drowning," Maldorn responds. "I can't imagine someone would be able to keep themselves alive in open water for long, especially after receiving the kind of damage you delivered, Master Ebokk. Broken bones? Open wounds? Soreness all around? If something doesn't eat him and he manages to stay afloat, he'll have a long swim ahead of him. I'd be surprised if exhaustion doesn't take him at that point."
To be absolutely sure, Maldorn consults with his mystical connection to Grout (Hunter's Mark).
(@DDP: Since Maldorn can transfer the spell to a new target once the current target hits 0 HP, wouldn't this imply that Maldorn knows if/when the current target dies?)
OOC: Didn't think about that with hunter's mark. Let's say you didn't realize the connection you created with Grout during battle had disappeared until now. But, yes, it's gone.
Gramps helps finish freeing himself. As soon as he can speak, he says frantically, "The others are going to ambush you!" When Jambiya explains that the ambush already happened, that the twins are dead, Grout was blasted overboard, and Scrub has been subdued, the old man looks relieved and a little sad. "That Grout," he says while shaking his head. "I think his greed finally got the better of him."
Similarly, Ebokk now looks a little sad about Grout as well. He reaches up and rubs the beard ring as he says, "I wish it hadn't come to this. The bosun was always so nice and helpful. I wonder if Toothless and Lefty talked him into it."
Everyone convenes on deck: Ebokk, Maldorn, Jambiya, Erric, Anafrey, Scrub and Gramps. The bodies of the gingers have been bagged, and Ebokk stands before the others still living. They appear to be only an hour or so away from Waterdeep. The ship had begun to drift off course during the scuffle and aftermath, but that has been corrected. "They call me captain, but the bosun really ran the ship, so I'm not exactly sure the best course of action," the dwarf admits.
"I think we should go ahead and make land," Gramps says, smiling. He looks around. "Maldorn and Erric learned a lot on the way here, so between the five of us, and with the lasses' help, we can do it."
"We can do it," Scrub agrees. He's been untied under extreme warning of retribution for any shenanigans. "I'm really to get off this ship," he comments more to himself than the others.
Ebokk looks at the party. "What do you think?"
