As Anafrey puts about her weapon and both Jambiya and Erric step forward and begin speaking pleasantly, the fleeing fungi stop fleeing.
"They are myconids," Thrakk says. "The 'dust' is not harmful."
Jambiya, you see no animals in the vicinity.
Erric, Thrakk is not wearing a hat. He is wearing hide armor.
When Maldorn brings up his bow, Thrakk shakes his head. "They are intelligent, and they are not harmful unless you are harmful."
Ebokk history check: 23
Ebokk squeezes between the party members and steps out into the cave, his hands held up in front of him in a peaceful gesture. "Myconids? Wow, this is amazing. I've read so much about them, but I didn't think I'd ever actually see any." He looks back at the others. "Myconids are living fungus. They can't speak, but they can release a special kind of spore that when inhaled, make you telepathic. Then, they can communicate that way. They are absolute pacifists. They abhor any kind of violence and will only act aggressively toward those who are aggressive. Put your weapons away and holds your hands up like this, and we'll walk toward them. Hopefully, they'll release their spores so that we can communicate with them." He turns back around. "This is ... wow."
Erric The Naive Halfling takes off his cloth mask and walks forward, arms out to his sides, into the spores, utterly believing Ebokk. No social distancing here.
He takes a breath to see what he feels and thinks. He will try to replicate some version of what he said after he does so, thinking and speaking it. He’s looking for any person-like form in the cavern...
Ebokk is begins sniffing heavily over and over, his nose making a shuffling sound. He scowls, then looks at Jambiya and screws up his face at her. After a couple seconds, he whispers. "Did you hear anything?"
Jambiya, you did not. No one is hearing or sensing anything telepathic.
OOC: For the fun of it, everyone roll a CON check (not save). Ebokk: 19. Thrakk: 14.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Anafrey con save 12
Anafrey would lower her weapon and her mask as well... "Well this is new. I have seen a lot of mushrooms in the woods but nothing like these things." She would say as she squats down and looks towards the moving mushrooms.
OOC: Everyone passed; no one is allergic to the spores. :)
Jambiya, Erric, Anafrey and (assuming) Maldorn follow Ebokk a little further into the large cavern. As Anafrey bends down to look more closely at the two- and three-foot tall fungi, she realizes there are larger ones moving their direction. She stands up and everyone realizes they are kind of surrounded. Before they can react, there's a quiet kind of noise like someone blowing out a candle from each of the larger creatures. The floating glowing spores are diminished somewhat by more spores which aren't glowing, but then those spores are almost immediately gone. It's at that point that the party begins to "hear" those around them. It's strange, because it's like standing in the middle of a crowded room full of talking people, except that your ears are full of wax. The words are indistinct and muffled.
"Huh," Ebokk says, his vocalized sound clearly heard.
Erric strains to understand the chatter. He thinks in his head, "Can anyone hear me? We don't mean any harm. My name's Erric. We're looking for something that can help my friend here, who's in trouble. We're also looking for some grimlocks who were mean to this orcish fellow. The spores are pretty. This cavern is really stunning. Do you like music?" He takes out his lute and very gently strums a few soothing, happy chords.
"This is stranger than the tobacco from Waterdeep..." Maldorn thinks to himself, and potentially the fungi. Holding his pipe up, he speaks in his mind: "Do you smoke? Can you? Would you like to try? May I smoke down here? It is good for my nerves, you see..."
The man shudders a bit, feeling incredibly claustrophobic right now.
Jambiya stares around in wonder, waiting to see if the others have any luck with their entreaties. She whispers to herself and waves her witchy stick a little, casting Resistance on herself, just in case.

Anafrey would unknowingly clutch the handle of her flail as she notices the larger mushrooms... and then as she begins to hear the chatter around them, she would rub her forehead. "Great... now I have even more voices inside my head.." She would say with a bit of a grumble.
The medium-sized fungi that had encircled the party back away as the largest fungus the group has seen comes into view. While the others are somewhat humanoid shaped, this one is the most humanoid. It exhibits what would be considered arms and legs. It gives off an air of regality. Speaking into the minds of the party, it says, "Welcome to our lair. You are welcome to rest here ... eat ... drink ... so long as you remain peaceful." There is a pause where it sounds like voices are speaking, but, again, the words are indistinct and unintelligible. "Welcome, Erric. If we can help you here in our lair, we will. As for those called grimlocks ..." The largest fungus turns, and the party looks to see a medium-sized creature shambling forward. It has gray skin; long, black hair; and a face devoid of eyes. It moves like it isn't quite put together correctly. In fact, it has grievous injuries. The creature stops and points toward the eastern exit with its club.
When Maldorn "speaks up", the largest fungus replies, "We do not smoke. If it is peaceful, partake."
"Thank you," the ranger responds in his head as he finally lights up his tobacco. "I am Maldorn. Do you have a name? Also, is that shambling grimlock you gestured towards your friend? Are any of them? I can't imagine they are peaceful toward your... colony?"
"I gave that one new life after it was slain," the fungus responds. "The ones called grimlocks are violent. They and the ones called derro, which are also violent, battled and hurt each other. We put a stop to it."
As Anafrey puts about her weapon and both Jambiya and Erric step forward and begin speaking pleasantly, the fleeing fungi stop fleeing.

Jambiya is all in, still as willing to believe in a wondrous world as ever. She puts her hands up and steps into the spores, hoping for a miracle.

Hearing Ebokk’s explanation, Maldorn puts away his bow and brings his pipe back up.
“Telepathically, like Sagitta and I communicate. Fascinating.”

(Does “for the fun of it” mean Erric probably shouldn’t use a luck point or is this like a real game thing he’d want his real luck to work for?)
Maldorn's CON check: 12
OOC: I don't think I have ever rolled a CON check before. It's kind of exciting.
OOC: Oh, yes, please don't use a luck point. You passed anyway. It has a very low DC.
Jambiya's straight up Con check (which is, of course, the same as her Con save, fwiw): 19

Maldorn shakes his pipe in the air, really hoping for positive responses to his many questions.

"So... it is a mushroom zombie?" Anafrey thinks outloud as she looks the shambling creature up and down.
