The largest fungus turns its eye-like things on Anafrey and is silent for a couple seconds. "It is similar to that description," it finally says in the woman's head.
“Wow. This is pretty fantastic,” Jambiya says out loud. “I could use a bit of a rest after that climb, but Thrakk, where do we go from here? If the grimlocks and... these derro, aren’t a problem anymore, what are we doing now?”

Thrakk, who is still standing in the opening to the short tunnel from which the party entered the large cave scowls. "They aren't a problem?" the orc responds verbally. "What are they telling you?"
Erric smiles in amazement at the inhabitants of this wondrous cavern. "Thank you. I think we can all agree to be peaceful. Have the grimlocks or these... derro... been around much lately?" he replies in his head. "We met this orcish fellow up outside the cavern. He told us about the ogre, which attacked us and we had to defend ourselves. It's... peaceful now. But we don't know much about him. Do you know him? Have you seen him before? His name is Thrakk. He said he's been down here before."
Verbally, he turns back to Thrakk. "I think they're saying that the grimlocks are to the east. Is that the way you came before?"
"That one traveled through here," the large fungus responds to Erric. "It did not stay. It came from there," it says, indicating the east as does the zombie grimlock.
Thrakk nods and motions toward the east as well. "Yes. From there."
The large fungus responds to Maldorn, "We do not like violence, but we had to use violence to end violence when the ones called grimlocks and the ones call derro were violent here. We used our spores to cause them to fight themselves. They altered their minds and caused confusion. This grimlock and this derro fell." As the large fungus speaks, another non-fungus shuffles into view from the north west. It looks like a small dwarf, but with gray skin and white hair. "The rest retreated to leave us in peace."
Maldorn, you get the idea that the telepathy you are exhibiting is only for communication. You don't feel like you're hearing random or surface thoughts. The muffled, rumbling sounds might be surface thoughts, but they're indistinct, so you're not sure. The only telepathic communication you can understand is that which is meant to be understood. But, yes, as far as you can tell, you are hearing all of the telepathic communication that Erric, Jambiya, and Anafrey have sent. You have no idea whether the fungus can read your mind.
"Very well... Onward with our search then. Let us hope that these grimlocks and derro have learned their lesson about being peaceful, so that we may reach our goal undisturbed." Maldorn says in between puffs of smoke.
"I am pretty sure the body is dead.. and being controlled by the fungus now living inside of it.. like a hermit crab or something.? Anafrey would add as she looks to Maldorn and nods. "I think we need to get moving as well."
Thrakk moves to join the group as they leave the large and medium fungi, heading east. As the party moves in that direction, they hear a new voice in their heads, “Beware, your companion is not what it seems. Its mind is not its own.” As they are contemplating the message, Thrakk points at not the east passage, but the northeast passage. "Through there," he says.
Erric replies to the new voice in his head “I am guessing this is not the doing of honorable myconids such as yourselves? You are saying something else has his mind? We have been wary of him but have not figured out his true motivations yet. Your wisdom is welcome. Also, we noticed some yellow fungus up above, in a kitchen - is that yours? Thank you again for allowing us safe passage. Your home is truly beautiful, and I feel lucky to have seen it. Would we be welcome to return here later on to rest safely and peacefully, perhaps? Also, you didn’t answer whether you like music. If so, I would be happy to share some with you upon our return.”
He is fine heading out. This is the only passage out of the cavern I take it?
"The gnome speaks for all of us in thanking you," Maldorn adds. "If you are in the mood to answer his follow up questions, can I ask you again about your light-giving spores and whether they are present in the tunnels ahead?"
OOC: LOL, I have a halfling in another campaign that occasionally mixes up his human and half-orc teammates.
The voice laughs. "I am not a myconid. I have chosen to live here with them. We have some similar ideals. Though, unlike the myconids, I can appreciate music. As for the big one, his mind is unusual, like your human female. However, where your human female is two minds in one body, his mind is foreign to his body. And where your human female's malady is known to you, you are unaware of his. As for motivations, I only sense that he wants you to accompany him further. And, no, my hosts' luminescent spores do not extend from this space."

Maldorn adds another mental question: "Could you elaborate on what you meant by 'we put a stop to it', please?"
OOC: Can a character hear another character's mental speech or can they only hear the mushrooms' responses to their own mental questions?

(And Thrakk can now understand them, from what he just said?)
OOC: I think Thrakk was just responding to Erric's last question, no?
OOC: You're right, I was just hearing the 'it came from there' and then 'yes from there' as related, when it's probably just narrative fun :)
"Very well... Onward with our search then. Let us hope that these grimlocks and derro have learned their lesson about being peaceful, so that we may reach our goal undisturbed." Maldorn says in between puffs of smoke.
Jambiya points are the tottering grimlock. “Is that one... dead? Or, just, you know, mind-clouded?”

"Do these natural lights you provide down here... Do they extend far into the cave passage to the east by any chance?" Maldorn wonders telepathically.
"I am pretty sure the body is dead.. and being controlled by the fungus now living inside of it.. like a hermit crab or something.? Anafrey would add as she looks to Maldorn and nods. "I think we need to get moving as well."
"We can always run back here, right?" Jambiya says brightly as she follow the bigs to the east.

The halfling, hearing himself referred to as a gnome, grabs an ear and absentmindedly rubs it, confused.
OOC: Oh man... I think Maldorn's gimmick has just expanded from names to races too!
OOC: LOL, I have a halfling in another campaign that occasionally mixes up his human and half-orc teammates.
