As Jambiya is thinking, Ebokk throws out Maldorn's question to Diinit. "What are mind flayers?"
Diinit huffs, but obliges. "Creatures about their height," he says, motioning toward Maldorn and Anafrey. "Shaped like humans or elves, but with strange appendages hanging from their chins. They can read minds like the myconids, but without spores, and they use the power to control and dominate. They bring your worst nightmares to life and can even make you their slave."
Jambiya, you don't remember any of your dad's stories involving mind flayers.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
At the mention of mind control, and remembering what the strange tentacled creature had said into their heads (flumph) Maldorn shoots a stare at Thrakk: "Have you met these mind flayers, orc?"
"It was after I was sent to lead the grimlocks to the surface that I was separated from them. Now, they are trapped by the myconids, and I was able to make it to the surface."
Erric nods (totally buying Thrakk's story in-character), claps his hands, and turns to his friends. "Okay, so let's do this. Back to the myconid cavern, which I guess has the tunnel to the grimlocks? Locked and loaded!"
He checks the hand crossbow and is ready to move along...
(How long has it been since we woke up this morning, on the road, before approaching the orc settlement? Feels like months but I know in-game it's been less than a day?)
"So... being a little bit of an expert on having your mind altered..." Anafrey would say rubbing her chin. "If you were controlled by a mind flayer before... are you sure you arn't still being controlled? Why didn't you let the mushrooms infect you with their mind reading spores? Were you worried they would notice the prentce of something else in there?" She would ask looking to Thrakk
Since the morning? It's probably early to mid afternoon, but it's hard to tell underground.
Thrakk looks a bit like a fish as his mouth opens and closes a couple times. He looks at Anafrey, then at Erric, and back at Anafrey. He doesn't look angry ... more surprised. "Do I seem controlled? Don't you think if I was controlled that I would want you to go that way? I very much don't want you to go that way. It's going to be dangerous. And I stayed away from the myconids because I saw how they caused the derro and the grimlocks to turn on themselves. I don't want them to control me like that. I know what it's like to be controlled, and I don't want them to do it to me again."
If he continues to find nothing wrong with it, he'll just say: "Let us not delay the inevitable any longer. I'm sure the grimlocks are itching for our visit by now."

You both are getting very mixed signals. He seems to be hiding something, but also telling the truth. There’s definitely something up, but you’re not sure what.
"Well, let's hope we can stop everyone from being controlled. Shall we get going?" Erric's ready to move along. Trying to remember this OOC, but there's a final tunnel leading out of the myconids' big central chamber, which leads to the grimlocks? And I don't want to hold the narrative up anymore, but Erric would try to get any other information he can about the grimlocks from the derro, the myconids, and Thrakk, so the group's not just blindly walking in.
Anafrey would rub her chin and shrug. "I didn't know I was being controlled at first either."She would add before nodding to her companions. "Yeah, I am ready."
Hmm, Jambiya thinks. Did my dads ever talk about mind flayers?

"Yes," Thrakk replies. "It was a mind flayer who enslaved me and forced me to reveal where the grimlocks could find my tribe."
He is totally telling the truth, Maldorn.
"And how did you free yourself of their influence, kind guide?" Maldorn adds a follow up question.
"It was after I was sent to lead the grimlocks to the surface that I was separated from them. Now, they are trapped by the myconids, and I was able to make it to the surface."

"Strange... you'd think the myconids would have mentioned something." Maldorn has no reason to disagree with Erric, though: "To the grimlocks then."

When Anafrey speaks, Erric pauses, turns partway around, and doesn't let go of his hand crossbow. Waiting for Thrakk to reply.

Erric insight check to see if he seems like he's lying! 9
Still inclined to follow Erric's lead here, Maldorn will continue to pay attention to Thrakk's response as well:

"We shall." Maldorn agrees. "Icy, Jambiya, are the two of you ready to go?"
"Yes, let's do this," Jambiya says. She smiles at the non-king derro as she leaves, saying niceties in Dwarvish.

DDP is vacationing if I remember correctly. I'm sure we'll get back to it soon enough.
