While Erric is approaching and then examining the box, Maldorn is maintaining his readied arrow in order to provide cover for Erric, if needed, and as he promised. He would not have a chance to examine the box/shrine from close.
While Erric is busy, Maldorn looks back the way he came and says in a loud voice: "Ms. Jambiya, Niceshimmer, mind checking on our petrified friend and the trap we left for it? We should make sure we are not surprised by the sneaky bird-person."
Does the box seem to have dust on it? Water/wind/sun damage from being out in the elements? Does he hear anything?
"The stone kenku's just across the hall, right? I was thinking about it too but I'm a bit nervous about splitting the party, especially when I'm poking around this box here. Which, by the way, is dedicated to Sune if you hadn't guessed. Mahogany and gold. I don't really feel like touching it, let alone trying to pick the lock. Does anyone strongly feel like I need to do either of those things?"
If no one does, or if he doesn't get a response, he'll follow his footsteps back to the rafter, holding on tightly to the rope as he draws it back in with each step. Could he get a sense if fire is what caused the hole in the roof? Can he see anything interesting down below him or elsewhere on the second level? Are there walls in this room or is it open to the rest of it?
Jambiya oblivious to the perils of splitting the party, will jog back to the kitchen to check on the stony Kenku. "Aye, Maldorn, I'll check! It'll be fine, Erric, just a moment."
(OOC the "splitting the party" comment was a bit of fourth wall talk - Erric was mainly just nervous about losing people who could help him in case he angered a ghost up here)
The shrine and box do have some accumulation of dust and/or natural debris due to being exposed to the elements. They don't look "damaged" in any way, though. He still doesn't hear anything, save for the sounds of nature and the occasional boot scuffing or clearing of the throat by his companions.
The house's damage is primarily caused by fire, yes. Then, there has been some further degradation due to elemental exposure. The room where the shrine was is basically wall-less, but, like the strangeness of the floor being more secure around the shrine, the two walls in that corner are partially still standing in a kind of arch behind the shrine. And he can't see down into the room below because while the floor seems tenuous (everywhere except right around the shrine), Erric was careful to keep from putting a boot through.
Jambiya skedaddles back into the kitchen. The kenku is still a statue. As she is turning to return to Anafrey, her eyes fall on the fallen cabinet again. Something nags at her.
OOC: I'll let you decide how long is long enough, Anafrey.
Jambiya crosses to the cabinet. She intends to lift open one of the cabinet doors, but then realizes she's looking at the back of the cabinet instead of the front. It has fallen forward, trapping the doors beneath it.
Jambiya frowns, then her face clears. That's why we didn't think to look inside before, she thinks. "Anafrey," she calls out, "I'm just gonna push this thing over and see..." then she has a thought, and raps on the thing a couple of times with her knuckles instead. Does she hear anything scuttle about inside?

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
"They are just checking on the statue, Master Heric" Maldorn answers while looking the halfling up and down to see whether he brought the casket with him. If not, Maldorn will sigh and pick it up himself. "Every track, Master Heric, every track. Even if it is dangerous."
Jambiya does her best to help right the cabinet, and is impressed with Anafrey's ability. Jambiya will carefully open the doors once it is right sided.
As Maldorn does this, Erric eventually notices he's grabbed the casket, and his jaw drops. "W-w-what are we going to do with a casket? Why do we need that, Maldorn?!"
Maldorn follows the trail he watched Erric safely navigate and reaches the shrine with no problems. He looks over the pedestal-like shrine and casket, noting the craftsmanship. The casket (box) is about a foot wide, eight inches deep and six inches tall (with closed lid). He lifts it and finds it isn't heavy, really, but substantial. Stowing it in his pack, he crosses back to Erric, who is dumbfounded.
Maldorn:
Please add it to your inventory ... The casket is made of finely carved mahogany, inlaid with the symbol of Sune, fashioned in gold. It also has an inset lock.
As Anafrey and Jambiya right the cabinet, Anafrey steps in the space where it had been lying and notices the floor seems to give a little under her weight — like standing on something soft. Naturally, she clears away the rubbish and discovers a trapdoor! *Cue the fanfare* As Anafrey is investigating the floor, Jambiya opens and looks through the cabinet. All she finds is broken dishes and crockery.

If Jambiya doesn't return in short order, Anafrey goes to check on her.

No scuttling. Sounds hollow.
Anafrey crosses the hall. "What did you find little one? Pleeease tell me it's some kind of liquor."

Jambiya looks up. "No... well, maybe. We never did look in this cabinet, turned over as it is. Help me right it?"

"What's going on down there, Maldorn?" Erric asks as he finishes lightly retracing his steps back to the rafter and ranger.
Anafrey looks a bit confused for a moment but ultimately shrugs. "... All right. Here, allow me to do most of the lifting."
[ooc : Anafrey attempts to right the cabinet with Jambiya's help.]

If Erric does not have the casket in hands:
-> Acrobatics check to approach the shrine: 18.
-> Perception check to look over the shrine before picking up the casket: 17.
The old ranger then finally grabs the casket and goes back to the beam, moving down to the ground floor with his prize at hand.
OOC > Nice rolling there, old man! :)
