Jambiya will, carefully averting her gaze, move in to the room. "Why don't we just turn it so it's facing the wall?" she asks, doing that very thing. Or trying to.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: Thank you, Jambiya. I was trying to figure out how I was going to outsmart you smarties.
Jambiya moves forward to turn the mirror, but the combination of movement and Erric's horror and inability to shift his magic image properly keep him from shielding her completely from the mirror's surface. As she averts her eyes, awkwardly trying to maneuver, a spine-chilling wail emanates from the mirror. The goblin girl can't help but look and is aghast to see not her own reflection, but the image of a woman with a horrific countenance staring out at her.
Everyone, roll a DC10 CHA saving throw or take 2 psychic damage and be frightened of the mirror until the end of your next turn. Also roll your own initiative.
OOC: Erric's just heard and told too many spooky stories, and has been in enough perilous situations that he's been jumping at shadows ever since he saw this house. You'll recall he cast a spell at it.
"Jam! What are you doing! Step away!"
CHA saving throw (halfings get advantage on being frightened, as paranoid as Erric's been): 23
The mirror is kind of turned (not very far). And since Erric saved on his charisma throw, I'll let him say whether or not he dropped/drops his minor illusion (would be an action to dismiss now). I'd say the illusion has been up for 12 seconds prior to combat, so it will stay up for eight more rounds unless he drops it.
Truly, in this combat, initiative doesn't really matter. Post as you are able for the round, and I'll put them in initiative order.
OOC: So the effect we saved against was the wail, right? And do we see the woman trying to get out of the mirror or is it just an image in the mirror?
Erric is intrigued, if still nervous, about Jambiya's peaceful approach. He asks, "should I drop the slab illusion? This doesn't actually seem so scary." If people say yes, he'll use his action to drop the illusion. He readies his silvered rapier and moves closer to the mirror, angling to the side so he can see what Jambiya's seeing. If he hears calls to keep the illusion up, he's holding his action (casting vicious mockery) if he sees the woman make any kind of attack on anyone.
He's listening to Jambiya's instinct to not attack first, and offer help.
Jambiya will pull out the papers she has been holding on to, and address the woman in the mirror. "Are you Clarice? We're here to help you. Can you tell us what happened, and what we can do? It looks like there was a big fire?"
OOC > For all I know this is straight up monster, and chatting it up is not going to work, but Jambiya is a helpful, hopeful sort. Here's a d20 for your use, should you need one. Her straight up Cha bonus is +2, Persuasion is +4, if either of those is relevant. Vanilla d20: 11

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
(Erric "yes and"ing this. If Erric can help Jambiya as a bonus action he'd like to: advantage for her roll or d20 roll 9 and Cha bonus is +3, persuasion is +5)
OOC: I'm laughing over here. Gah! It's an enchanted mirror that is attempting to psychically attack us. Jambiya approaches. Hi! I'm Jambiya! Wanna be my friend? LOL
OK, it would be hard for anyone but Jambiya to communicate with the visage in the mirror with the image still up, so let's say Erric did in fact drop it so that he could help Jambiya in whatever way he can (which I'll say is his bonus action ... I'm making an exception).
Everyone can now see the creature. It is feminine and of similar proportions as a human woman, wearing a lovely dress, but her face is distorted and very angry and not at all beautiful. She appears to be floating, though trapped in the mirror. No, she doesn't appear to be "climbing out" or otherwise leaving the surface of the mirror. It's like you're looking through a window into a similar dark cellar room, but she's there in the room.
As Jambiya shows the diary pages and speaks, Erric drops his minor image to nod along, Anafrey moves forward to attempt to get between the mirror and Jambiya, but the little goblin girl is still standing very close to the mirror (she never backed up after attempting to turn it), so she just stands right beside her, right by the mirror, and Maldorn waits to act if needed. The creature opens its larger-than-humanly-possible mouth and wails again.
Everyone, once again, roll a DC10 CHA saving throw or take 3 psychic damage and be frightened of the mirror until the end of your next turn.
Should Erric go now in this round? If so, he will give a sympathetic look at Jambiya and say "Seems Clarice isn't here anymore," and he will turn to the mirror and say in a patter, casting vicious mockery: "Why so cranky? Clothes are gorg but seems you're someone who struggs to func. You should see a profesh about that smile, it's honestly unsettling. Also the dead-girl-in-a-flowy-dress thing is overdone AF don't you think?"
(1 psychic damage on a failed WIS 13 save; it also would give disadvantage on the next attack it makes before the end of its next turn, which, with the wailing/saving throws, probably not super helpful?)
He's going to move to glance behind the mirror, trying to see if there's anything hidden there, and if the spell doesn't have any effect, he's going to be visibly confused. "Will we regret shattering this?"
OOC > Playing poor, new-to-her-powers Jambiya to the hilt, sorry about any blowback...
Jambiya faces the creature in the mirror and wills her to like her! "I just want to help you! Please, let us help you," she appeals to the woman. There is a wafting of some sort of power, a fey presence of love, and acceptance, emanating from the charming goblin.
She will use Fey Presence, which says "Once per short rest, as an action, you can cause each creature in a 10-ft. cube from you to make a WIS saving throw (DC 12) or become charmed or frightened by you (your choice) until the end of your next turn." MOAR saves all 'round!

Anafrey moves to Jambiya's side then steps in front of her, inserting herself in between Jambiya and the mirror, short sword at the ready.

Maldorn stays at the entrance of the room, ready to shoot an arrow at a wailing mirror monster but unaware of what exactly is going on with Jambiya.

(OOC: I'm afraid that seeing the apparition in the mirror once Erric drops his illusion would trigger Maldorn's readied attack)
-> Longbow vs. the mirror/lady-in-the-mirror: Attack: 18 Damage: 8 piercing.
Then, when the second wail is released:
-> CHA saving throw: 11
Once we reach Maldorn's proper turn:
If we are in full battle mode or the mirror broke from the reaction arrow:
Another attack:
-> Longbow vs. the mirror/lady-in-the-mirror: Attack: 9 Damage: 10 piercing.
If the reaction arrow missed and/or Jambiya's friendship-making efforts are successful:
Maldorn prepares another arrow to be released only if the apparition becomes hostile again.
I’ll assume Maldorn is more than 10feet away from Jambiya.
