Erric wracks his brain trying to recall where he saw the symbol.
(Intelligence (..?) roll: 9)
"Do we want to prepare for opening this door? There aren't many closed doors in here. It might be grand, and it might be terrible. I'm guessing it won't be boring. Should I make myself invisible and then open the door with you all out of sight, and see what I can see?"
He also checks to door for any obvious sign of traps.
His plan, if the door's not trapped, is to leave the gauntlet and sword down on the ground, turn himself invisible, and then put on the gauntlet and hold the sword, and use them, seemingly levitating, to approach and open the door. Perhaps the armor was a kind of guard and he can pretend to be the guard if there's anything on the other side of the door. Then walk in invisibly, gauntlet and sword floating in. That's his other pitch to the group. The alternative is to not hold anything and just be invisible and check things out.
Jambiya keeps a safe distance while Erric examines the door. When he explains his plan, she nods enthusiastically. "That sounds like a great idea! We can hide back here while you float on in... I mean, while the glove and the sword... you know what I mean."

Ebokk will take out his thieves tools to check the large door for traps. Ill take a look, we could always use the handle to knock. He says with a grin.
Thieves tools check not sure if int or dex for this but they are same modifier 14
Erric, as you try to remember where you've seen the symbol, you can't remember where, but you know it's not been very long ago that you saw it. It wasn't within the vault, though.
Erric gives a quick glance for traps, but Ebokk actually takes time to examine the doors for trouble. (You don't use thieves' tools for this; it's actually an investigation check, but I can use your roll.) He finds no indication that the doors are trapped.
While the plan is put in motion, Jambiya takes a moment to think if she has seen that symbol on the wall back at the inn, or if it has come up in any of the stories of her fathers' past adventures... History, for the purposes of Dirk's adventures: 11

Erric nods, takes a slow breath, and waits for the party to array themselves to either side of the doorway, out of sight/blast radius/the line of fire. He moves the sword and gauntlet to the side as well.
He casts invisibility on himself. Then he opens the door.
Jambiya, you remembering seeing an oval framed painting of a cloud with three lightning bolts on a gray background, but you can't quite remember where.
Erric, after turning himself invisible, pulls on the large ring attached to the door, and it opens easily. The door opens to reveal a magnificent treasure vault lit by wall-mounted torches and containing a somewhat less magnificent smattering of treasure. A floating skull that sparks like a tiny storm cloud hovers over the minuscule pile of loot. Its eyes are intense spheres of light, and they seem to be looking at the three visible members of the party.
Erric invisibly rolls his eyes at the party seemingly not listening to his suggestion to get out of sight. He moves inside and begins to try to flank the floating skull, waving his hands silently, trying to see if it can see him. He'd like to remain a surprise.
Ebokk will also poke his head from behind the door to get a sneak preview of the room. As the others move and Jambiya begins to talk to the skull Ebokk will move next to Jambiya and grip his shield tightly.
Seeing the treasure that isnt as grand as the room itself does not prevent Ebokk from staring at the pile of loot below the skull. He prevents himself from moving forwards to the loot and waits to see if the skull speaks first.
Erric, the skull does not appear to notice you, but it's kind of hard to know since it's just a sparking skull with lights for eyes. But you feel pretty stealthy. Also, remember that you can roll stealth with advantage when you're invisible. Not that you need to reroll this time since you rolled a 19.
Immediately following Jambiya's question, the skull replies directly, "I am Raman Turntide. Or, at least, what remains. Who are you? And how is it that you have bested my puzzles and my brother's contests? And, please, explain to Me how you were Able to so Easily Get BY Those BLasTED EXPEnSIVE BEHOLDERS?!" By the end, the skull is screaming, electricity is fairly constantly crackling around it, and the lights which serve as its eyes have shrunk down to pinpoints.
Jambiya smiles widely despite the skull's outburst, "You're Raman! Oh, I am such a fan! I mean, I'd heard stories, but I had no idea until we came here just how little they do justice to your exploits and this place!" She waves her hands to encompass the whole Trap, not just the treasure room.
"My name is Jambiya, and um, I'm the daughter of a couple of adventurers. I grew up on their knee listening to all sorts of adventuring stories, so I got kind of an education in dungeon delving and derring do. It was really exciting to work through all the puzzles, they were hard. Um, my friends helped, and really, I was not much good with your brother's contests, but they were. So we got through it together."
"As for the beholders, they were pretty scary, except for the kids, they were cute, but we've seen a lot of scary things, like a haunted house, and a mirror dimension, and walking dead and the drawing depths and one of our friends got possessed by an evil weapon, well the soul of a bad guy was in the weapon and... uh, well, we've seen a lot. So the beholders were definitely frightening, but we followed the rules and they left us alone. After scaring us. A lot."
She finally pauses to gauge the skull's reaction.

Erric tries to look around for anything else hiding, any traps, anything weird as he walks around behind the skull.
He also readies a hand crossbow bolt to fire if the skull attacks, or tries to cast anything suddenly, or tries to press a button or pull a lever that doesn't look right. He's not fingering the trigger, but he's getting ready to if this goes south.
"Lord Ramen," Maldorn finally speaks. "Now that my well-learned companion Jambiya here has answered your questions, may I ask one of you? My name is Maldorn Whitehare and I couldn't help but notice that you described those fearsome beholders as being expensive. They had also mentioned their contracts and, well, your treasure is famed across many lands. Tell us, if you will, have the beholders laid claim to your treasures as part of their contracts, perhaps in the form of their wages?" Maldorn gestures towards the disappointing pile of treasure, but avoids describing it in that manner with words.
Ebokks battle ready stance lightens a bit when Jambiya starts sharing their full history. He stands a bit straighter with a surprised look on his face, wondering if this is the time for such a tale. But he has gotten used to such behavior and tries to shrug it off.
With Maldorns words Ebokks starts connecting some dots in his mind and cant help a small outburst of his own. I knew those floaters couldnt be trusted! Didnt i tell you!
Erric, you don't see anything else hiding or otherwise in the room. You also get a good look at the pile of loot. You see seven carvings of some cold-weather location in what appears to be bone or ivory, two pearls, six rolled-up scrolls, a cloak that appears to be made of some kind of glossy black material, a shield that bears the same emblem as the door (cloud with three lightning bolts), two daggers that look similar to your rapier, a coil of silk rope, and a potion. That's it. You don't even see any coin.

The skull's "eye lights" return to their larger size, and the amount of electricity being generated around it lessens as Jambiya makes her speech. What remains of Raman appears to calm. It listens as she and then Maldorn speak before it retorts, talking over Ebokk in the process. "Beholders, yes, beholders require compensation for their services. MUCH compensation. Xynkil especially. Expensive. Grath insisted. INSISTED!" It bobs for a second before continuing. "Vault. Expensive. Beholders. Expensive. LUDICROUS! So many years we traveled and collected. Our treasures were numerous. Not numerous," it says as if correcting itself. "Payment. So high. LUDICROUS! NO, GRATH! OUR TREASURES!" You, as a group, are beginning to wonder if Raman is still in possession of all of his marbles in his current state. "Now, it and me ... reduced. Fallen. Robbed. Robbed. Robbed," it says, as if realizing something. "You are here to take what is left of our treasures. No. NO! You mustn't. MUSTN'T! GO!"
"Go?" Maldorn cocks an eyebrow. "Go where? Back the way we came or is there another chamber for us to move into? We were given two hours to reach... something. Is this chamber the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?"
Erric wracks his brain trying to recall where he saw the symbol.
