"Pegs?" Maldorn tries to help out his bard friend.
"And thank you all for accommodating my little shopping request. It is not urgent but I am afraid I'd forget about it were I not insistent." Maldorn bows a little. "On to the Shining Knight." (assuming Grendel gave them directions as asked.)
Grendel gives directions to the Shining Knight, which she says is very close to Keeper's Square, so she explains how to get to Largo's mortuary from the armory as well. The party passes back over the river and heads south toward the cemeteries, which are easily identifiable because of the tall walls surrounding both. Grendel's directions are good, and the party easily finds a very large building with an equally large sign across the front reading Shining Knight Arms and Armor. Maldorn leads the party through the front door.
As large as the building appears from the outside, the inside feels even larger: two high-ceilinged floors with an round, railed balcony create a two-story hole in the center up to a beautiful stained glass dome you don't remember seeing from the outside. Shelves, racks, cases, bins, barrels, boxes, tables, and even employees are covered with just about every conceivable weapon or piece of armor. In the center, below the dome, is a round counter with two individuals in the center: a squat dwarf with a surprisingly short beard (that appears to have been on fire recently upon close inspection) is taking money from another customer while a very thin human dressed in a blue robe and wearing a brown hat that covers the top and back of his head and ties underneath his chin locks eyes with you (Marldorn) and appears ready to help in any way he can.
Maldorn approaches the receptive attendant and compliments the store: "This is an impressive storefront. And I thought the hunting lodge I help maintain back home was large enough. What a splendid display you have here."
If given a chance to jump right into business, the old man then requests: "I am very interested in a suit of armor upgrade. I have to be able to move well in it and wouldn't be able to put on anything too heavy. Perhaps a set of studded leather protectives would suit me well."Maldorn taps his chest and adds: "I am willing to trade in my trusty set of scale mail to cover part of the payment. I am sure you can appreciate the artistry of the decorative lizard scales on it."
Ebokk will enter the store with the group but wont be looking for anything.
Instead he will try to attune to the new shield and spend time admiring it. Running his fingers over the lightning bolts to feel the fine craftsmanship.
Should Maldorn or anyone need to buy things Ebokk would be happy to trade in his old normal shield to cover some cost as well. He wont have need for it anymore.
OOC: If you all decide you stopped somewhere along the way, we can add that in at any point; don't take me continuing at the Shining Knight as me saying that couldn't have happened.
Erric, at your halfling size, it's hard to know exactly what all is available at the Shining Knight. Would you like to walk around and take a look? As for whether you would have stopped ahead of time, again, that's up to you.
As you approach the human, Maldorn, you estimate that he's a little older than you, though he looks just as spry as you. He doesn't have a beard, but he is sporting a few days' worth of white stubble. His blue robes are decorated with silver and gold streads in strange shapes that hurt your eyes a little bit to stare at. He smiles as you compliment the store. "Thank you," he says, an accent you don't recognize coloring the words. "I've worked hard to make the Shining Knight the best of its kind. My associates and I hope all of our customers will find our wares to be better than they expect." After you explain about your armor, the old man nods. "Leave your mail with me while Yandeal here shows you to the leather armor section. I'll take a look while you're perusing the shelves."
I assume you have no objection to leaving your mail with the man. After you place it on the counter, the dwarf waves a hand at you in a "follow me" gesture. He takes you up stairs to one corner of the store where there is a nice selection of leather armor in various shades from light to dark brown, some reds, and some black. Without you having to ask, the dwarf walks slowly through the selection, pointing out what they have to offer. "This is your run-of-the-mill leather armor," he begins, his accent clearly Waterdhavian. "Here is standard studded leather. These have studs ... these spikes." He continues on, a bit more energy suffusing his tone. "If you're interested in something a little more useful, we have these two pieces of what we call quick-change leather armor. It is made in such a way that you can put it on and take it off quickly. Unfortunately, we only have these in standard leather at the moment. If you'd like to commission some quick-change studded leather, that can be arranged." He moves a little further. "And this is very interesting. And it's already studded like you wanted." He takes the studded leather armor and slips it on. Wisps of smoke begin to rise from various places on the leather, making the dwarf look as if he is about to burst into flame at any moment. "Harmless and odorless, but it surely looks both interesting and intimidating." As soon as he begins to remove the armor, the effect stops. Hanging the armor back up, he says, "Try on anything you like."
Jambiya was about to approach the dwarf, but fades back as the dwarf takes Maldorn in hand and leaves. Instead, she will just stand there awkwardly, making circles in the dust with the toe of her slipper.

Erric would absolutely love to look around the Shining Knight to see what might fit a bard of his size! He’s charmed by the proprietors and the ambiance - his fingers already toy with hit lure to begin to compose a jingle for the place that extoll its value and customer service, its staff and selection.
(The tune that begins to form on his lips is every local chain hardware or furniture store jingle you remember from childhood. He is happy to share it with the fancy human or Yandeal, free of charge.)
Erric, as you begin strolling through the building, your fingers lightly plucking and strumming, the human appears behind you almost as if by magic (in fact, Jambiya looks up and is surprised to see no one behind the counter when the old man was just there). "Good day, young one," the man in the blue robes says, smiling down at you — but not in a condescending way. His eyes flash (figuratively) as they take in the instrument. "You must be a bard to have such a fine instrument and to be so talented at it." Before you can respond, he continues. "You know, it's not just tavern patrons who enjoy listening to music while they eat. I know my patrons would love to be serenaded as they peruse and purchase." His smile widens. "How about it? Would you play a couple of tunes to help make the shopping experience that much more unexpected and pleasant? I can make it worth your while."
Jambiya, as you wait akwardly, a second dwarf enters your area of the store and moves behind the counter. This one is an older female dwarf with a strikingly black chin strap beard to match her long, black hair, which drapes over her shoulders and down her back. Mingled within are shining strands of silver which only serve to compliment her beautiful locks. She gives you a quick smile before leaning over to reach under the counter.
Maldorn follows the given instructions, asking Ebokk to help him get out of his own set of armor so that the ordeal can be achieved more quickly.
While being shown around by Yandeal, Maldorn admits: "I wasn't looking for anything other than a standard set of armor initially, but this place is truly mesmerizing. I must say that this quick-change set you suggested sounds quite enticing. I'm an old man and you saw that I needed help downstairs from my friend, Ebokk. I bet such a trick comes at a price, though. How much would this quick-change set of studded leather armor cost, and how long may I have to wait for it to be made?"
When shown the smoky armor, the ranger frowns a bit: "Interesting trick, but you said it yourself it has little functionality, correct? That might call more attention to me than facilitate a stealthy approach, wouldn't you say so, Yoddle? Out of curiosity, however, I must still ask how much you'd charge me for that one."
Finally, pointing at the regular studded leather set (not the spiked one), the old man asks: "And the price on that one? It'd be nice to know it for comparison purposes."
Erric responds affirmatively and he sets up where asked, curious at the way these kind people treat potentially interested customers. Instead of shopping, he is happy to entertain, playing more of the jingle and also craft more music, using the backbones of old reliable standards on which to flesh out more music about the peculiar and particular experience of exploring such an interesting store, discovering hidden treasures.
As Maldorn hints he needs help with his armor Ebokk moves in to help take it off Hold still now.. almost got it..
Ebokk will look to see what the others are browsing with curiosity but will remain inspecting his shield for now. Sometimes he his eyes will wander to see what is available in the shop but knows he has not got the coin to make a grand purchase.
Jambiya looks up at the new dwarf and approaches her. “Um, hello,” she begins in Dwarvish.
“I, well, my friends and I, we’re looking for Largo Piffernackle, the mortuary…ist? It seems a friend of theirs hasn’t heard from him in a while. We’re heading there after this, and I was wondering if you know him, or his sons, or… well, anything about him?”

Grendel would have paid you 90 gold for the two scrolls you sold Eilikasys, so somebody should add that to their sheet. Or you can split it among you all.
Ebokk, your eyes wander over to some racks of swords that are near the front door. Short, long, wide, thin, plain, decorative ... there is quite a large selection. As you near them, you can't help but notice the fine craftsmanship. You pick up one longsword with an embellished guard to give it a close inspection. Not that you've had a huge amount of experience judging the quality of weapons, but if you had to, you'd feel comfortable betting that this is dwarven made.
Jambiya, the dwarf with the beautiful black hair smiles widely at your greeting, looking only slightly surprised as the dwarven tongue rolls off of yours so easily. "Piffernackle?" she repeats. She pauses, and you can almost see her mind working. She finally gives a little shake of her head. "Can't say I know the name, but there are only a handful of mortuaries in Neverwinter." She lists three by location, including the one in Keeper's Square, adding that there're probably one or two more that she can't remember.
About this time, the blue-robed man returns to the central part of the store with Erric in tow. He halts, steeples his fingers, and looks around the store, including up at the round balcony. "I think this would make a good spot," he says more to himself than to the others nearby. He makes a circular motion with one hand, and a three-legged stool appears out of thin air. He motions Erric to the stool. "Would you prefer a flat fee or a store discount?" he asks the halfling. He walks to the front door and props it open.
As Maldorn is getting specifics about the different sets of leather armor, he hears, but doesn't really notice Erric's playing. The dwarf with the fire-damaged beard begins listing the prices as the hunter requested after quickly (but not rudely) reminding Maldorn that his name is Yandeal. "The price for standard studded leather is 45 gold," he begins. "The quick-change feature adds another 60 gold on top of that. We aren't currently working on any commissions, so I'd feel comfortable promising that we could have a set of quick-change studded leather ready in four days. Well, that depends upon if you're particular about the kind of leather and if we have some available. As for the smoldering armor ..." He gives a little shrug with his eyes. "It certainly is more of an attention-getter than an aid for stealth. The upcharge for the smoldering enchantement is 70 gold above the normal armor price."
OOC: The sale of the two scrolls should net 22 gold and 5 silver pieces to each of us.
Maldorn cups his coin pouch somewhat discretely as the dwarf names prices: "I am unsure whether my group will be staying in town for that long, and it wouldn't be fair for me to ask. As for the smoky option, I do not think that would fit my... demeanor. I appreciate you showing me around but I will choose the simple studded leather set. This one over here, not the one with spikes."
The ranger waits for Yandeal's response, adding afterwards: "I understand my current armor will cover a portion of that bill, correct?"
The old man quickly takes in the young bard's studded leather armor and then smiles. "You play. I'll ponder."
Erric, despite your performance being almost entirely improvisational, you feel like this might be one of your best compositions ever.
Yandeal retrieves one of the studded leather sets Maldorn indicated. "I'll take a look at the leathers you'd like to trade in and give you a fair price." (You can get five gold for your used leather armor.)
Maldorn, as you're following the dwarf back toward the stairs, you walk by a row of cloaks hanging on pegs, and you can't help but slow down to admire them. Green, brown, burgundy, and black cloaks made of wool, cotton, and other smoother and shinier materials are on display. Yandeal returns to your side almost immediately. "In the market for a cloak?" he asks. "If you don't mind me saying so, I think that green one would look very fine on you."
Ebokk, you continue walking through the display of blades. You've always been a hammer kind of guy, and you love your current weapon, but you're feeling the urge to buy another for those times when cutting would be better than smashing. You pause at a small glass case the size of a hat box. Within, resting on a dark blue cushion, is a dagger with a purple and gold handle. The dagger's blade is made of a very dark gray material, and upon it are carved some runes. There is a small piece of parchment beside the dagger with "Dimension Dagger" written in fine penmanship.
Jambiya, as you step away from the counter, the female dwarf continues to smile at you. "I don't mean to stare," she finally says, "but we don't get many with green skin in here. Are you part orc?"
Erric looks around after he's been playing a while to see if there are more customers, or more interested browsers, in the store. Apart from his friends, that is!
Just as Ebokk is done inspecting the sword he stumbles upon the dagger in the hatcase. With such fine weapons around he cant seem to get his focus of the dagger. Why would this one by in a special case. It looks regal. Made for a true adventurer.
He looks to the old man listening to Erric since the others are busy with items. Could i ask what is special about this dagger. Why keep it in a case like this?
Ebokk surprises himself with this interest. Hes not a dagger dwarf by any means. But its a very nice piece.
(You can get five gold for your used leather armor.)
OOC: But... it was set of scale mail. Shouldn't it be closer to 22 or 23 gold pieces if applying the standard 50% discount?
"Well, yes... A cloak could come in quite handy when out in the elements, and I do have a fondness for the color green..." Maldorn ponders a bit more and adds: "Do they emanate smoke or have other interesting effects too?"
