Elra sits back down once it looks like Avrel is going to be fine and pulls out her journal, writing down a few things before ripping a piece of paper from it and starting to write out a letter. She stops every once and a while to look at Avrel to make sure he's alright or take a bite from her plate of food before going back to her letter. Once Avrel is done with the spell and she's finished her food she yawns, "I didn't realize how late it was goodnight!" she smiles and heads to her room. She finishes her letter proped up in bed before rolling it up and tying it with a strip of cloth she found at the bottom of her bag. With a smile she taps Vincent gently on the top of the head. "Hey buddy, are you up to take this to the House of Knowledge and bring back Loremaster Altervast's answer if he has one?" She holds out her letter to him, waiting to see if he takes it or not. (Basically up to Hexblade if Elra can use Vincent to send letters to Loremaster Altervast/House of Knowledge)
She sits back up and closes her eyes, meditating on everything that happened while she was on the road that she didn't have the time to really think on until now. The dragon attack they came across, the goblin cave. Fae just... well she didn't want to think about that part right now.
"Am I doing this right?" the words are out of Elra's mouth before she even realized she said them. "I mean, I doubt you'd send me this way if it wasn't the right direction. But sometimes I think that I'm not the right person for this. I don't know anything about what's going on out here, but maybe that's the point... I'm not going to stop trying though. I don't want to disappoint you or Loremaster Altervast. Um..." Elra looks up at the celling, "I think that's it. Goodnight."
Dear Loremaster Altervast,
Things have been very interesting so far. I've only been gone a couple of days but I feel like I've learned a lot so far. On the first day out we found a wreaked caravan, but we discovered that it was probably attacked by a green dragon! It seems really odd, because I didn't think dragons would want to be near enough to humans to do something like this. Then it turns out that the caravan was being followed by a different caravan. They seemed really nice and helped us out when we were attacked that night.
Then the next day we found Gundren and Sildar's dead horses and got attacked by goblins. It was weird, but then we followed tracks to a cave where there were even more goblins and a bugbear. We found Sildar, but Gundren is still missing because he got taken to a castle somewhere. Then we found a bunch of magic items, including a pearl that I can use for one of my spells and can help me recover spell slots. We finally made it to Phandalin tonight though, so that's fun. Avrel, the guy who likes to pretend to be someone else started going on about all the ingredients for a spell to summon familiars.
Speaking of Avrel, he gets his powers from an Archfey he calls The Lady. She doesn't seem very nice, she likes to give him headaches and stuff that doesn't seem like it would be worth it for magic, but I'm not sure how much of it is willing for him. Also it turns out that Avrel grew up in an orphanage dedicated to Tyre. I'd write about the rest of the group but I'm running out of room on this piece of paper so I'll just send this one and write you more later.
Vincent is going to stay until you have a response so I hope to hear from you soon!
Now that some of the commotion has settled down, Fae would approach the inn keepers wife to as her to fill her in on the details. She felt concern for Arvel, but relieved that Tarja and Elra were here to take care of him and his needs. She’d help herself to a wash bucket and rag to help tidy up the mud tracks her comrade tracked in while in a hurry. It was the least she could do to lend a hand in this scenario now that the ‘worst’ of it was over.
Once done tidying up, Fae would return the wash bucket. She’d grab her plate of food and ask for Zeke’s and Arvel’s as well. It would be a little tricky, but she’d do her best to balance the three plates between her fingers as she approached the others. “I know you don’t usual eat while on watch Zeke, but it’s getting late and you need sustenance to keep your senses keen.” She’d place the tiefling’s plate within arms reach instead of forcing the plate into his hands. She’d then walk around to look over Arvel, “Based off of the accounts of what happened and what Elra was able to determine, we should be approaching the end of his ritual. I imagine he will be famished when he awakes from what ever’s taken a hold of him.” She’d plop down on the floor next to Arvel with his plate. Would it be this Lady he has spoken of? Fae would wonder. She’d settle in to enjoy her meal by the fire with the others, ready to provide any support if/when Arvel comes to. She’d occasionally reach up to feed Edgar a piece of her food before he starts snatching it from her hands.
If Arvel does not come too after the ritual, Fae would eventually slump over, curl up and fall asleep there.
After over an hour spent in singular focus on the ritual, the smoke from the brazier begins coalescing in front ofArvel. The wisps begin to shape themselves into a tiny humanoid form with fluttering insect wings. Once the Sprite fully forms, the embers in the brazier finally die out and the charlatan blinks his eyes and comes back to his senses.

"That's more like it. Look, I'm worn out and hungry. Why don't you make yourself scarce and we'll talk more about this in less...embarrassing circumstances."
The Sprite fades from view and Arvel finally seems to take in his surroundings and the numerous people staring at him. He accept the plate of food offered by Fae.
"Gods help me. Bad enough She's got an invisible leash around my neck. Now She's forcing a tag-along conscience on me! Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't have just stayed in that cell."
The charlatan proceeds to eat and fume in silence.
Good to see you, Narth! Yes, I haven’t been here much lately… turning over a new leaf now, you might say!
I’ve been accompanying this interesting crowd here, including Arvel. More magic all around than I’m used to, though - I couldn’t tell you what he was doing. I’m just glad having some of the right herbs helped. I've been trying to help out the Rockseeker dwarves. They had spirit. And who knows, maybe they can help turn things right side up around here. But now Gundren’s been captured by goblins, so that’s not going too well…
Seems like things have gotten worse since I was here last. She lowers her voice.I thought the Redbrands were just some uncouth ruffians, but it feels like they run the place nowadays! How bad is it for your farm?
Sildar is sitting nearby in plain clothes with his feet up sipping something hot and studying his mangled hand when Arvel finally comes to. "Well you don't see that every day" he says to himself.
At Fae's touch, Zeke would smile slightly and nod his head, but maintain his position behind the charlatan As Arvel returned to the light of day, Zeke relaxes and sits down to eat the food Fae brought over. 'Thank you for this my friend, a hot meal is a welcome relief after our travels.'
Narth chuckles slightly as Tarja says she's 'turning over a new leaf' and listens to her brief summary of the party's quest thus far. "Seems like quite the new leaf for you indeed. Yeah they've really taken over, demanding payment from everyone for 'protection' and giving us all plenty of reason to comply. They mostly take their 'payment' from me in the form of food, which isn't so bad since I've had a good crop. Others have it worse, much worse. There's the Dendrar family (previously mentioned by Toblen) and then Sister Garaele came back to town looking rather battered last week. Don't know what that was all about. I'd stay away from the Sleeping Giant if I were you Tarja. They drink there every night these days." Narth looks around at Tarja's friends, with the magic they've already made a scene with and with Zeke's imposing presence and says "then again, maybe your friends are just what those Redbrands have coming to them. Just leave me out of it."
Tarja would know that Sister Garaele is the elven cleric of Timora that maintains the small shrine just outside the inn, takes in travelers, and generally tries to help anyone in Phandalin who needs it.
Regarding Harry Potter, we're talking carrying the mail? Sure, why not? We'll even let Cubester do the math for us per the PM channel. ;)
Fae was just about to take a bite of her food when Arvel would suddenly awake and proceed to have a conversation with a sprite that he just summoned out of the brazier. She'd freeze in place and blink a couple times until the conversation is done. "Ou! Piece of candy!" Edgar would help himself to the bite. She'd 'unfreeze', sigh from her lost bite and help herself to her own. She'd keep the silence so the charlatan can stew.
Fae's face would light up with a warm smile. "You're welcome Zeke." Finally, for the first time, she believe she's witnessing their protector feel comfortable enough to relax and enjoy their company. She enjoyed the comfortable silence among them while they ate their meals, and the light chatter of the other patrons in the distance on the other side of the room. She'd start swaying side to side, content.
"Depends on what your interpretation of 'embarrassing' is." She'd kind of chuckle when Arvel would break the silence. Fae would glance down at her now empty plate, thinking back to her own 'performance' in the cave before looking back to him, "I cannot say for sure. I was not here for the whole thing. What I can say is, everyone was very concerned for you. You were in good hands though. Elra, Tarja and Trilena were able to work together to solve your riddle. And here we are." She'd gesture to him and the brazier. "I'm sure Elra will be excited to tell you all about it tomorrow." Fae would give him a reassuring smile.
Arvellowers his face and rubs the back of his neck.
"Headaches. Sore throats. Explosive sneezes. Those I've been able to handle. But this is the first time Her influence has made me completely unaware of my own actions. Hopefully, this won't become a problem."
Arvel rises and approaches the innkeepers. He lays out some coins on the bar.
"I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience I've caused. Thank you for your hospitality."
Wow. It's even worse than I imagined. I hope Sister Garaele is ok. And I'll make sure all of us stay away from the Sleeping Giant.
For now.
Stay safe, Narth, and may your crops grow tall and strong.
Tarja sidles over to those of her group still downstairs - Zeke, Fae, Sildar, Arvel? - and shares the warning.
Phandalin isn't safe these days. The redbrands - those ruffians in red - think they own the place. People are being murdered, and going missing. Don't go in to the Sleeping Giant alone, that's their turf.
Tarjagrows more animated, and can't contain her mix of anger and fear.
Gundren's not the only one kidnapped. The Dendrars. And they've even gone after the cleric! Sister Garaele just helps people out, why would they do anything to her?
The Redbrands are going to undo every bit of prosperity the Rockseekers could bring here. When we get Gundren back, I'm sure he'll still need our help to handle them.
"Well, then. First of order will be rescuing Gundren. Get the ol' Rockseeker clan back steering the ship of state that is Phandelin. Then we can deal with these redscarfs or whoever they are."
"But first! Two stiff drinks and a night's sleep. Barkeep!"
Narth smiles at Tarja and says "thanks, you stay safe too." "Oh and if you get bored, my turnips aren't a particularly strong crop this year. They could use your magic touch." Narth looks at the others though and says "but I think you'll be a bit busy for a while." "They'll be just fine." The farmer then takes his leave.
A tired Sildar inquires with Zeke, Tarja and anyone else still awake just before he retires. "So what do you want to do now? Going after Gundren at first light? You sure you can trust that map? That Yeemik was a nasty fellow." He rubs his mangled hand with missing fingers but magically healed wounds. "I let Gundren down, and I fear I won't be much use to any of you like this." The old veteran looks a bit dejected.
Fae would wave to Tarja as she approaches the group. She'd even scoot over to offer a seat near her.
"I very much agree with Zeke, Sildar. I know you're a great fighter..." Though, she could sympathize with the emotions he's probably going through right now, all things considered. Fae would ponder on Sildar's question about whether they can trust the map. "Hard to say..." and she'd look over to Tarja, thinking about her communication skills again. "Would any animals within the Neverwinter Wood be able to confirm this?" She'd put a finger up remembering the spiders, "Are spiders chatty?" Fae would start wiggling her fingers to imitate spiders, genuinely curious.
Tarja agrees that they should head out tomorrow to find Gundren.
We can grab some provisions in the morning and head out. How far is the castle where Gundren's being held, according to the directions? If the map is to be trusted.
Once we get close I can get some help from woodland creatures, but I wouldn't count on them for long-distance direction. Spiders don't usually travel too far from their webs, and even birds have a hard time giving directions, unless it's back to their nest.
Vincent and Edgar might help us out too, though!
She also turns to Sildar:
Rest up and recover your strength. It looks like there will be plenty more time for heroics. We'll get Gundren back to you as best we can.
Do you know what he was planning to do here with the supplies? Can you continue his plans here while we try and get him back?
Zeke grunts and nods. 'The map is almost certainly a trap, I'm sure those Goblins went scurrying ahead to warn their masters and gather their forces. Of course, we have to follow it - it's our only lead to Gundren and we have to free him.'
He stands up and dusts off his hands. 'We can provision up and move out in the morning. I'll walk the perimeter one more time and then take the first watch tonight.'
